'Moulin Rouge' Tango? Morricone 'Spaghetti Western' Overture? You decide what style this is. There's only one thing we are certain about: Effie Passero is one of the great singers of our time!
Tango? Morricone? I say it's both. The first ~half clearly sounded like tango to me. But once Mike came in on trumpet the vibe totally changed to Morricone. What an interesting arrangement! Well done.
Good god I can't imagine being able to sing that fricking well whilst in a CORSET. Bravo Effie Passero, you have groundbreaking vocals and are an absolute legend!!
@@emely1810 Who? I'd rather not say because I don't want to get too personal. Let's just say that she's really good at overdoing it, so I really can't complain.
Saw her in concert in Canberra Australia singing this plus Hallelujah and Creep. People were moved to tears and she got two standing ovations. I have never before felt a voice fill every space in an entire theatre. If you ever get the chance to see her live, do it, you won't regret it.
Saw her in Melbourne... Was literally breathless and can confirm that people were moved to tears. I cried like a baby when she sang 'Hallelujah'. Her voice is phenomenal and vibrates right through you
Coming from someone that has been listening to kiss since I was a child. This has to be one of the greatest covers I've ever heard. This is absolutely magnificent and has been added to my regular playlist
I've been listening to hard rock and metal since the 80s too, but I found this song overly pompous as performed by Kiss. I think the PMJ version is better than the original. They take the over the top bombast away, and the song works better that way.
@@rabiatorthegreat6163 Nope i must disagree. without original PMJ wouldn't have their version. i feel ya with other music where copy out does original, but for me this one stays as-is 👍
@@rabiatorthegreat6163 if you knew anything about kiss you'd know that the whole point of that band and their shows was to be overly pompous, but I did say this was one of the best covers I've ever heard
This could be the anchor track for a major motion picture!! Outstanding arrangement, with excellent division and mesh between the various voices and instruments. And Effie absolutely nailed it. Perfect.
Am I the only one who feels like there could be a Quentin Tarantino movie written just for this? Because that's where I went while listening to it, most especially when the trumpet came in.
First half got my "Like", second half got my heart! As a massive fan of Spaghetti Westerns, the horn and the staccato snare gave me Goosebumps!!!! What a silky voice Effie has!
so I already have a great idea for my first hit movie. A young Native man of the local area falls in love with the mayor's daughter of the newly erected settlement mining town. It is overrun with corruption and mass destruction and disrespect to the old ways of the lands. In a magical and violent love affair about freedom and standing up to oppression, a long lost tale of courage that is ever so needed in current times. This song will be the theme used throughout to show the power that one man can have to inspire change within even those outside of his race. It only takes one spark to ignite a spiritual evolution! Thank you for turning my favorite Kiss song to an even better version which inspires me creatively.
Saw PMJ in Dublin last night and Effie Passero literally had people in the audience weeping with her rendition of Hallelujah. Explosive standing ovation afterwards. AMAZING VOICE!
Saw her with PMJ last night. Simply one of the most sublime voices I have ever heard. She did Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and I don’t think a single member of the audience didn’t have goosebumps.
Under all of it is Scott. He always seems to create just the right arrangement and find just the right talent to knock it out of the park. And he's not bad on the piano, either.
Loved the original of course and still do, by Kiss, but this is an incredible version. Postmodern Jukebox takes any tune and makes it special, makes it great and love the talented people who are behind it and how you create beautiful arrangements with variety of renditions of popular music in that style of older days. Wonderful. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I have watched this performance over 100X since it was released and I just keep coming back to it as one of the more pure, authentic, humble and inspiring videos on TH-cam, hands down. Mahalo from Hawaii!
Me in first half: Well, geez, this is just great! Me, when the trumpet shows up, and Effie takes it: WHAT? YES! WHAT?? ALL YES!! Amazing rendition and ensemble! Effie slays it!!
Effie Passero is a songstress of the first degree, with practiced gestures & a voice capable of so much range, such symbiotic exchange to the listener. As they said in the 1940's, "The dame is a class act." Like some Valentino-era odalisque, she is ripe & lush, with an emanating sensuality that, added with that versatile voice, leaves one wishing for more.
Crazy version of this song. Wow.

Stylishly beautiful 😍
What about Burlesque? I can see Dita Von Teese dancing to it.
with a pinch of surf rock
And a splash of Bond theme -- it's very cinematic! Just fantastic; what a singer Ms. Passero is.
I need NEED more spaghetti western style covers
Agreed

The. Best. Version. EVER.
I love how much restraint the singer has. Most singers with a voice of that calibre feel the need to riff and show off. A truly remarkable talent
Over-singing has become a real curse
True - there's another PMJ singer who really does overdo it - it's her style. It sounds good until you hear Effie.

The voice, the instrumentals, the dress, the wonderfully arranged scene - I'm amazed.
