After about a year of trying to get my mower running properly I finally got it going. Just need a little more tweak but it is not running at 10,000 rpms anymore. Great job and thanks so much.

Absolutely Awesome!! This is the info I've been needing for weeks in my spare time... ive talked to several titled "mechanics" some as young as in high school working part time at various tool and rental chains thank the Lord they didnt know what I was talking about due to my lack of knowledge. Lol... The arm on my 7.0hp lifan pressure washer, the pinch clamp bolt was mysteriously backed off after picking it up from a lawn mower repair shop that had it 4 weeks and was still way down on their list... I removed the fuel tank and saw the rod had dropped going into the block to the govenor and wasn't functioning at all, I pulled the rod up and moved it clockwise and clamped it there, put it back together and started it but when I pulled the sprayer wand the throttle advanced the engine, rpms I could tell where way too high... I shut it off and felt like it had something to do with the rods position or maybe I went to far with it... Thank you for your expertise and for the illustration using the engine block, that really helps in understanding how it works and why... im hoping to soon see a video explaining the purpose of the long weak ass spring that is coiled and installed around the rod linking the throttle body to the govenor arm. It doesn't appear to serve any purpose at all to me?... Thank you for all your videos and knowledge... may God bless you and your family indeed. OCG.

You're a lifesaver Jeremy. I cleaned the carb on my generator and tweeked the governor linkage as I serviced the carb w/o disconnecting anything. The genny ran but stayed WOT. I did like you said...loosened the 10mil nut, held the shaft clockwise and w the carb WOT tightened the pinch joint. She runs at 63HZ. Perfect. Thanks Man.

My problem is a slightly oscillating governor after the engine, like yours, B&S 6hp toro shows; mine heats up, or when it hits, the grass starts to surge gently; otherwise, it is stable off the grass. I ordered a new spring from B&S, which makes it surge more wildly. I subscribed and liked it. keep up these excellent videos.
@THEMOWERMEDIC1 Thanks. When the engine stops, throttle plate/butterfly is widely open, when the engine is running, the governor's lever is pushed to close the throttle butterfly. Won't throttle butterfly closing reduce the engine power? The governor is to prevent engine running excessively and from being damaged. The higher the rpm, the more the governor closes throttle butterfly
Thanks for this. I just rebuilt a Kawasaki fd590v on a 1989 John Deere 285 mower. The "plastic Cam" gear scattered and took out the water pump gear and Gov gear. It's all back together now and I'm setting the gov. linkage. Thanks

Thank you. My power washer has been surging and I tried to adjust the governor arm and I set it backwards. I have the BS vr2500 engine and it’s just like yours. This helped me a lot. Thank you. The only thing I’m confused about is the spring. The spring is super loose. I bought a replacement and that’s loose also. Maybe the previous owner bent the spring tab too much? I’ll bend it and see if that helps. Thanks again!!!

I see opposing information on this. One person claims in the manual for a briggs v-twin is you loosen nut on governor arm attachment, hold throttle to full open and rotate governor pin in the same direction as the arm goes to full throttle then tighten nut. Then I am seeing someone say to do the opposite.
I have the same set-up for my Briggs. I was closing the throttle. watched too many other videos, and got messed with. yeah, mine, similar to yours, does not need the arm to be touched. the spring holds it open. I just needed to turn the paddle. will work on that tomorrow. my carburetor is only a single speed with no jets or idle screws. if it works tomorrow, like your video explains. I have an old Onan B48 engine with a generator. The Governor rod is welded in place. So I noticed that the throttle linkage has some dog legs in it, that could be straighten or shorten to achieve the same end result. What I'm thinking is, detach throttle rod, position the Governor rod where it's supposed to be, Move the detached throttle rod to connect at full open, see how much throttle rod needs lengthen or shorten .Does that sound like the way to approach it? Seems like it would work and it's really my only alternative . Thanx for your great explanation, I appreciate it !
Great video. Just one question. I have an EZ Go golf cart. When I depress the gas peddle, it's set to wide-open throttle. The question is can I tweak the governor slightly to get a little more speed?
Is the setup of the governor the same if the engine is on a mower that doesn't have the manual throttle at the carb but uses a handle bar bail? I'm doing a B&S 125K02-0131-E1
What could be the reason for that adjustment need? I have it happing / moving the arm when the throttle is in the middle. I will check the rpm before trying to adjust it.
So if it's not adjusted right, mine wood chipper when it was running would run up and down. Looking at what you showed it looks to be that arm moving back a forth. So would it be the governor.
Some videos say clockwise some say counterclockwise. To make it simpler, is it correct to say turn the screwdriver until the throttle is fully open with a little tension to hold it in place until the nut can be tightened?
Please help. I have my briggs & Stratton quantum 675 engine disassembled at the moment. Is the governor gear supposed to stay in place on the governor shaft, or is it normal for it to fall off after it's been tightened in the proper position? I ask cause it looks like the governorn gear easily falls off the shaft in your video and other videos I've seen. Does the gear automatically come back to the shaft after being set properly?

So just put the carb butterfly open? In my case full throttle the arm is CW and then adjust the shaft toward the full throttle position which for me is CW?
But if the engine is closed how we can adjust the governor correctly? It means carburetor papion completly open and must turn governor screw to the left and block finallty.The governor arm must to move easy, etc.

Just a static setting is enough. To split the cases = a trip to the dump for most people. Not worth losing a day of life working with shot junk.

No, that is an incorrect statement. The throttle butterfly goes full open regardless of counterclockwise or clockwise.

new short block 6hp vertical, the key in the flywheel , sheared ? timing off ? why did it break?
