Creise and Meall a'Bhùiridh | Glencoe | Munro Bagging

- After a well earned rest Alistair and Douglas stopped at the ski centre in Glencoe to hike Creise and Meall a'Bhùiridh as the sunset over this beautiful part of Scotland. With great views towards the Buachailles, these Munros, prove to be a favourite amongst hikers.

Good video guys, cracking day for it. We headed out to do these 2 in March 21 and had to abandon due to the steep snow wall on the final 10 metre push up to the ridge towards Creise. Had all the gear but looked too risky and felt out my comfort zone. Had to do my first ice axe arrest on way down as lost my footing. Scary but kinda good fun as well! When we go back to bag Creise we will take the chairlift for sure. Definitely not cheating as at least walked that part before!!
Thanks Andrew. I’ve been reading of a few people abandoning their attempts at Creise in the last month or so due to similar conditions on the ridge. I’ve also heard tackling Creise from the west is a great walk so maybe something to consider?
@@HighlandHikers im not surprised they abandoned, it was scary and like a wall of snow! I will look into that route as it will at least cut out the other Munro! cheers!

Fantastic meeting yourselves on top of Meall a bhuiridh, the weather did look as if it wanted to turn.
Douglas was right about the walk down, almost scree surfed all the way to the ski lift.

Smashing video as always guys, glad you both met up due to commitments etc. I was talking about these two fairly recently but I might wait until next year due to the daylight hours. Either doing An Caisteal and Beinn a Chroin soon if the weather is ok failing that head back up to the Lawers range and get Meall nan Tarmachan as I know that will be a quick and fast descent
You could probably get them done if you started out early enough, maybe even making use of the gondolas.
Thanks for the video, heading this way soon. Looks like I underestimated this one, till I saw your video, the ski car park, takes out 400m (?) of ascent, but that still leaves 700m till Meall a 'Bhuiridh.
I'm not fluent in Gaelic, but going by the spelling, could it be pronounced Meall a vooree, or possibly meall a voorig
We usually try to mimic the pronunciation on WalkHighlands. They have a handy audio clip for each mountain that can be helpful.
You’re probably closer to 750-800m of ascent to the first Munro. If you add in the second then that obviously increases it a bit more. The ascent to the first is fairly steady but from my memory its not that steep.
Thanks for sharing gents! Drone gave good recce of the ridge between the summits. Based on that I'm glad I didn't go on from MaB to Creise in an April white out earlier in the year. Definitely a double summit of MaB btw!😉
I enjoy chatting about what makes a double summit or what makes it a single. The ridge was fairly wide until the slightly steep section towards the end, but always best to stay on the safe side.

We loved watching your video! We're still early in our Munro bagging journey (at 23 bagged so far).
On the first weekend of 2024 we climbed these two mountains ourselves in the snow (after doing a winter skills course last year) and it was amazing to watch your video and see the comparisons in the weather. We certainly weighed up whether it was cheating or not to take the chair lift, but gave in on the way down with some weary legs! ☺️ thank you! Can I ask what camera and lens you are using for your photographs? I initially wanted to take the old DSLR but it’s a decent weight and takes up a fair amount of space, which is already at a premium.
@@HighlandHikers Of course! It's a Sony A7IV, usually with a Sigma 24-70 2.8f lens mounted. Currently working on a blog post for all of the kit we take with us. It certainly adds a bit of weight to the pack, but for us it's worth the additional weight and space to get some cracking photos of the mountains! Thankfully the GoPro for the videos doesn't take up too much space at all. 😄

Thanks Euan. I don’t think you can fully appreciate the first Munro until you reach the second and get a great view back towards it.
Creise is one of my favourite mountains and I've climbed it twice, both times via one of the scrambly routes on Sron na Creise - highly recommended! The last time was on a very clear day in December and we were lucky enough to see the Skye Cuillin from the summit.
I’d love to tackle Creise from some other directions. We met a couple who were tackling it from the east which looked a good alternative.
@@HighlandHikers That's the direction we went last December. The scramble from the Glen Etive side (north) looks a bit intimidating from the bottom, but it's escapable with reasonably good paths - perfect for if you're not sure whether you want to do the scramble or not!
