I know Margaret Thatcher was unpopular with some people in England but I liked her and think she’s been England’s (and the other countries that make up Britain) best Prime Minister for a very long time. She was strong and decisive and as she said in the House Of Commons “this lady isn’t for turning” Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands (Islands off the coast of Argentina under English rule) and she had no problems with sending troops there to fight over such a small island where there are more sheep than people and we won. She could’ve let Argentina take the Falklands since it’s just a small island and it is closer to Argentina but no she showed her strength and went to war. She also found the French and Germans in the European Union to make our economy stronger where as Tony Blair latter gave away everything she got from the EU and allowed the French and Germans be the dominant powers in the EU. And as she said to George Bush “come on George don’t get wobbly now” telling him not to back down and look weak

These long-form documentaries are fantastic. Just FYI: Soviet Foreign Minister Shevardnadze's name is pronounced "Sheh-vard-NAHD-zey."
Also, for anyone looking to learn more, here's a lecture from Ambassador Edward Gnehm on his experience during the Gulf War: th-cam.com/video/1swo4yBvc74/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XgP_xgs_PTjP9In0 (audio is kind of crackly, be careful if using headphones). Gnehm was U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait at the time of the Iraqi invasion and Desert Storm/Desert Shield (he was also one of my undergrad professors).

38:19 talking of Saddam taking hostages I remember Japanese wrestling icon Antonio Inoki going on a few trips to Iraq to speak to Saddam Hussein and ultimately on his last trip Inoki came home with all 140-150 Japanese hostages. It’s a bit like Hulk Hogan at the time going to Iraq and coming home with American hostages which is funny to think about. Instead of threatening Saddam Hussein with atomic weapons he would threaten him with a big boot to the face followed by his atomic leg drop, Hogan to Saddam “let me tell you this brother if I don’t come home with all my fellow Americans the least thing you have to worry about is America’s atomic weapons with them dropping a big red, white and blue H-bomb being dropped on Baghdad brother. As I’ve got my very own H-bomb a Hogan bomb in the shape of my atomic leg drop across your stinking carcass brother!” (I’m sorry I just had to get out that promo I can imagine Hulk Hogan cutting on Saddam Hussein before Hogan is talker out in front of a firing squad)

International condemnation. After Iraqi forces invaded and annexed Kuwait and Saddam Hussein deposed the Emir of Kuwait, Jaber Al-Sabah, he installed Ali Hassan al-Majid as the new governor of Kuwait. The Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait was unanimously condemned by all major world powers.
then i remember president bush sr were his wife, two of his sons, former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, former Chief of Staff John Sununu, and former Treasury Secretary Nicholas Brady. In late-April 1993, the United States learned that terrorists had attempted to assassinate Bush during his visit to Kuwait.
