      Ross Danaher I have jumbo golf pride Grips on my irons and love them. Tried them on my driver and fairways and it was a disaster. Not sure why but I think because the grips are so much heavier that they really throw the weight off on a longer lighter club. Curious how these lighter ones would perform.

    Sooo I switched to the jumbomax xl tour wraps about a month ago (before bryson won btw) because I have a larger hand, XXL gloves, im built like a line backer (6'3" 310lbs). I had the issue that the grips I played before (lamkin crossline jumbo with 5 wraps) my fingers touched my palm and I had the issue of inconsistently spaying the ball. Since I've switched to the jumbomax grips, it's completely changed my game for the better, I've dropped 10 to 15 strokes per round due to consistency. So in my eyes, totally worth it if you have large hands!

      I am fodder, was wondering about that. I use a large sized glove so...yeah it kinda makes sense. Used to regroup my own clubs and the ultra lights didn't exist then. It really did mess up the swing weights as I recall. So this is exciting to not have to worry about that.

    I bought a slightly used set of Srixon Z585 irons with jumbo grips with the intent to replace them with smaller grips. I took the clubs to the range and thought I try them before hand. They worked exactly like you described in your video. I have no intention of changing grips. Straight, longer, and less wear on my hands. They work.

    I am 6'3" and wear an XL glove. I switched to the JumboMax XL over the past month, and have picked up 20 metres distance per club. I would never go back to the mid sized golf grips. It's like a new game for me now. I never knew there were bigger grips until I read about Bryson. I emailed a supplier here and confirmed what he was using and ordered a set. I think for me, I am finally in the correct sized grip for my hands. I have never hit the ball more consistently or been more satisfied driving home from the golf course. I would like you guys to fit a high handicapper to the right sized Jumbo grip, and see what that does for their dispersion and length. I suspect you will see some interesting results. Love the channel.

    I just changed my grips to Jumbomax Ultralite M and absolutely love them. You can really feel the face being maintained square for a longer period from the downswing to impact.
    As I only played two rounds with them I still do push the ball occasionally, but even this is a welcomed change for me because all my miss before the grip change were pull and hooks.

    This kind of thing is what my recent club fitting was missing (not with TXG obviously)... I was almost there and just needed some small adjustments to make the club feel like I was about to buy something better than what I already had. A BIG part of this was the grip. I have a L to XL hand size, and the standard grips feel like I'm holding a pencil. A few years ago I switched over to Tour Wrap Midsize on almost everything and they feel great, but my fitter didn't have options like this. Great work as usual

    I’ve been doing grip size fittings for years as a swing coach. I see a number of changes take place. Swing speed gets faster with the right one. Dynamic loft tends to decrease as the grip gets bigger until it’s to big. Path tends to work more left for a right hander as it goes up in size.

I kept the Standard sized +4 on my 3 wood as I wanted to have a club that was my draw club off the tee but I'm switching it this week to midsized also because the Midsized just calms everything down a little. I wear a L glove and I'm thinking of even exploring the Jumbo grip on my wedges to make them even more exact but the swing weight thing was in my mind until I saw this video and the Superlights now being available (except the Smalls and Mids are sold out online) and this year I converted to not wearing a glove and the Align Midsized +4 have that little bit of cord that I love on my gloveless hands

    The physics of larger diameter grips is pretty simple. They give the golpher more leverage on the shaft. Which translates to less twisting of the club face at impact and finer adjustment of face angles.

    I am one of the players Ian described who has a very neutral path and face in relation to path and I do see a very pronounced benefit to using a larger grip. It was a happy accident you could say. I tried the larger grips to see if the would help with injury issues in my hands and my typical dispersion reduced dramatically. The lighter swing weight didn’t phase me a bit either but I’ve always had the best success with heavy shafts so the extra weight in the rest of the club may have helped with that but I don’t know for sure. However I have noticed over the years that if the club is overall on the heavy side the a lighter “swing weight” doesn’t affect me much at all. I don’t know if this is normal or not but I’ve always found it interesting.

  • @justins2407
    @justins2407 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just ordered a set of mediums. My ball shape is very neutral and if anything leans slightly more towards a fade. But for the most part a very straight flight, 2 handicap and I’ve always bounced around with grip size. Medium size grips are to heavy and I would have to add a ton of weight to the head, I’ve gone 4 wraps 3 wraps and am currently gaming 2 wraps with standard grips. I fight fave control a bit so feel like experimenting with these is a good little test. We shall see soon when they arrive and I slap them on. Love the videos guys, very good information y’all provide 👍🏻

    Ian and Matt, a couple weeks back you both did a video on Bryson’s iron shafts. Ian made a comment that stated the shaft was used for Bryson so as to be so stiff that all deflection would be close to being eliminated. The assumption to this would be that the only variable would be the golfer and not equipment. So a coup,e questions come to mind... 1. What are the benefits / disadvantages of an overly stiff shaft compared to a “properly” fit shaft for a golfer’s swing? 2 Knowing high handicappers generally need help getting a ball airborne, and an assumption made that mid to mid/low handicaps can reliably get a ball airborne under normal conditions, would an overly stiff shaft for a persons swing be of consideration for someone looking to truly to eliminate variables that a “proper” fit shaft might cause? 3 What would testing of a mid to mid/low handicap’s swing, performance, and ball flight look like side by side using a very stiff and low torque iron shaft compared to a “proper” fit shaft for their iron swing? I guess the big question, if Bryson is doing it to eliminate equipment variation during a swing, would that thought process be of benefit to an average golfer that can reliably strike decently? Just thought this concept might be worth looking at for an average golfers perspective.

  • @SurprizedDaily
    @SurprizedDaily 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely is something to it, as the late, fellow Canadian, greatest ball striker, Murray 'Moe' Norman figured all this out way back in the 1950s, all on his own! He used an oversized grip and he always talked about his swing being one of the only ones to swing through the course, vs. around the course as 99% seem to do, ie. keeping club head squarer far longer than most! He always said he felt as if he kept the face square for approx. 22 inches beyond the ball, he likely wasn't keeping it square that long, but he felt like he was! He also swung his clubs on plane with every club in his bag via his single plane swing! Yall should seriously dig into as much Moe Norman footage out here that you can! I have been and it's amazing at all he figured out and was able to do consistently, long, long before ANY of this modern technology was even thought about!

    Wow! Great video!! Just stumbled upon your channel, and had to watch this. I've just been demoing the Ultralight grips for the last week or so, a LG. on my 7 iron and a MED. on my driver. I wear an XL glove, 1/4" long and 2* flat. I can tell you from my experience that I am for sure longer with both clubs, especially the 7. I've added at least 10-12 yards, consistently, with every shot I've made. I used to hit my 7 thin a lot. I haven't done that once with the Ultralight on there, and we're a whole lot of swings in now.
    The driver has been interesting too. I took it to PGA Superstore and hit in the simulator to compare baseline numbers and with the Ultralight installed. Again, longer and less spin. I'm usually a 149-151ball speed, and around 2800-3000rpm. I'm high spin. With the Ultralight, I'm about 152-153mph ball speed and the spin has dropped to around 2500 consistently. I'm actually pretty surprised that these are working as they have. I was HIGHLY skeptical of these initially, because they just seem so counter to everything I've ever known. But, they work. I am about to replace all my grips. My standard grip is a midsize Golf Pride multi-compound with 4 additional wraps.

    I use Bionic gloves for my practice gloves. I recently purchased a black one - the white ones get quite filthy from my Tour Velvet grips. The black one turned out to be a bit different - called the Bionic Stable Grip. It has additional padding inside the glove in specific areas that has the effect of making the golf club grip feel larger in the gloved hand, like going from a std to mid-sized grip but only in the butt/upper section. It got me thinking - this might be a video idea for the lads. I wonder what difference a 'simple' glove change could make to your swing. You have synthetic vs different leathers (cabretta vs kangaroo, etc), wet weather vs dry weather, a pair vs single hand, and my new discovery - the padded Bionic vs this cabretta. Just a thought ...

I’ve now been using Jumbomax for nearly a year now and I’m known as one of the straightest hitter with a Driver. Tried a trial pack of Jumbomax grips. Was surprised by results. Static weight of club went up but as expected, swing weight went down. Drives went straighter and with ease. Irons flew higher but very straight as well. I think the swing weight concept is over emphasized...may need to rethink it a bit. Even with the heavier “tour” version of grips (low swing weight), the club performs better all around with these grips. Thanks for the introduction! And think about “swing weight”...it’s only a relational concept, not an indication of actual club weight.

    Great video gentlemen! Great concept! I loved the camera work in this one and the fact the we got to see the workshop.
    I usually play jumbo grips in my wedges and oversized in my irons. It definitely helps with my consistency. I just down sized from jumbo to tour standard on my driver as i was not getting the face to close.

    I just had Golf Pride cp2 red jumbo grips put on my irons. I do have a larger hands and on the simulator I was crushing the ball pretty good with them now I just need to go on the course and see how different they are but I feel like the bigger grip is helping me hold on to the club much better now

    I use a full set of the JumboMax Tour Series at 105g per grip.
    It’s the most comfortable grip I’ve ever used and does not result in any wayward flight. The wayward stuff is due to me.

    The general rule of thumb with finding your correct grip size for Jumbomax grips is to pick the grip size down from your glove size. (ie. XL glove try out a Large grip). I’ve been using Jumbomax grips for just over a year now. They do make the swing feel a bit bit dead with less fell, but they have helped me to eliminate me ‘Flipping’ the club at impact.
    I’ve just change to the ultra lite about a month ago and I get more feel on where the head is on the club when swinging. I’ve also increased my swing speed due to less weight.
    I think that most people don’t or won’t use this grip due to being ridiculed ‘like I was’ for breaking with using ‘Traditional’ grips.
    My answer to these people was, “if you’re so worried about people breaking tradition, why are you not playing with Hickory Shafted clubs!,’ that normally shuts them up!! 😂😂😂

    Always enjoy the content. The walk over and production use of the additional trailing camera is a really nice touch. Typically that happens off camera and is a cut it. The continuation of the conversation and work being done at the same time was a really nice touch. "Walks away to order jumbo grips..."

    I used these after breaking my left hand, wow did they help, really sit in your hands, and the material they are made of, is far "grippier" than any golf pride grip. Genuinely felt like I could hit the ball a bit harder. For the non pro's among us, I actually missed right a lot after fitting these grips, but once you get used to them, they do seem to help you shoot straighter. Would recommend

    love the str8 tech Jumbomax grips. I started playing around 3 yrs ago so I don't consider myself a purist by any means. I'm willing to try things that are not conventional in the golf world. I bought a few grips to try (tapered and non tapered version) and I loved them, but especially the non tapered version (str8tech) Something that people should know is that the tapered version of the Jumbomax grip (similar to the one they tried here) has a bigger diameter in the butt of the grip than the str8 tech even if they're both listed as the same size. For me that made quite a bit of difference because I was missing right a lot with the tapered, but with the non-tapered version (str8tech) it's always straight! (no pun intended). I only have it in one club right now (PW) and it's the club that I feel most confident hitting. Looking forward to putting it in the rest of my clubs once I get fitted (hopefully with the TXG guys; that'd be incredible!).

    Oversize grips helped me greatly as I picked up the game and worked to a middle handicap. Now that I'm better, I've switched to midsize because I'm more confident with my hands. Even still, I'll tell every mid to high handicapper to consider oversize grips.

    JumboMax is sold out of Small and Medium in the Ultralight! Had to go to eBay and you can’t even find the medium. Messed around with the Tour a few years ago but the swing weight change with the heavier grip was too head-light. Didn’t know until this video that they released an ultralight version. Interestingly, I play a midsize velvet align and the small version will be 17 grams lighter which may make my swing weights 2-3 heavier, which is welcomed because that used to have to be a very custom build.

    I have used Jumbomax tours and utralites for last 4 years (XL) my glove size is 2xl/3xl. Now only have XS Ultralites on woods and that's it. Great to stop hooks, but was so hard to feel iron heads. Very worth while trying out. Start with XS ultralites first, as they are huge as it is.

    I've become a big believer in bigger grips. All my grips are now Golf Pride Midsize +4 Align and I love them. I looked online and I see that the Golf Pride MMC +4 Jumbo is now exists and I'm tempted to try them in the wedges and Driver because my miss is Left as well and for sure the Midsize +4 are better at helping this than Standard grips - in fact Standard now feels like child grips. I played tennis and liked a big grip because it gives you more control and it's just more comfortable - I would suggest every man try MIdsize +4 at minimum.

  • @seancook2264
    @seancook2264 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My issue for a number of years is a two way miss with driver. Hit 65%+ fairways but miss equally both ways. My purple patches are when there is a one way miss. G410 set up flat to try and take the left side of the course out. Interested to test the mid size on the driver just to see if there is not the opportunity to just take the left side of the course out of play as that’s the one that tends to be the most costly.
