Thanks for sharing, I use these pre-made crimps pieces, but I like the idea of using a rod that can be cut to size!

If you use a dremel to cut the tube, you don't have to reopen the ends.

Agreed, but not many people may be able to afford that, and it takes some "skill" and caution to use that.
