Loving these videos as a departure from the gaming stuff. Really interesting for someone who knows a reasonable amount about cars but would love to learn a lot more! Entertaining stuff!
really enjoy watching u & yr buddy crusing in it , looked so relax & having fun. I m thinking of getting a 13yr old 2nd MRS but since I hv almost zero knowledge of maintaining the car, I just dont knw whether to buy it or not. what do u think?

In Australia we only had one option, SMT 5 speed in my 2002 Spyder, she only has 80k (50mls), but no transmission issues, yet she is pushed quite hard on twisting mountain roads. Paintwork, yes a few flaws, but still warrants display status at car events. Why, they don't what it is!
just getting ready to swap out the trans in my spyder. because it seems to be making a bearing noise: the local Toyota dealer wanted to put a used trans in for 6k!!! anyway i have a replacement. but i'd be curious which bearings failed!
Nice car, do you have any kind of global spreadsheet that you would like to share with how much the car and all the fix cost you ? Just to have a rough idea of the budget. By the way it's the first time that I'm watching a US driver using a Mechanical gearbox, i ever through that you need a kind of special driving licence to use this kind of transmission in US, wich is not the case here in Europe.
I haven't tracked prices the entire time, but I've kept all the receipts and it's between $7000 - 8000, including the car. A lot of that is optional stuff that I wanted, like the suspension and brake upgrades, and some other stuff is things like tires and additional wheels, so it's not all repairs.
Hi there I know I’m four years late but there’s a 2003 mr2 Spyder that I can get for $3200 but the transmission is bad, some days it works some days it doesn’t, what should I do? How much do you think it will cost to repair?
I looked at a few, but that would have added at least $500 to the cost. The rest of my trans was fine except for the bearings, and I'm happy with the 5-spd. I never feel like I'm missing anything during acceleration, so all I'd gain is a slightly lower highway RPM. That would be nice, but for the money I don't think it's worth it.

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Great video man! Really enjoy watching project type videos where you can see progress over time.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Have you maintained any cars? Or just not this one?

There aren't that many trans out there, I wouldn't buy it for $3200 unless the rest of the car was mint. Plan on a $1500-2k trans rebuild.
@@NeverEndingProjectGarage alright thanks! yea it’s an 03 with 66,000 miles on it and it’s in pretty good condition, thank you for your wisdom
Must be common place. So I searched up' why do transmission bearings fail' and the 4th listing, was a big form about the MR2s bearings failing xD
Yeah, for a really reliable Toyota based on Corolla parts, this car sure hasn't been that reliable.
Is the mr2 spyder that Mr.Regular revivewed?
Nope! Or at least, not when I owned it.
what oil and filter are you running? just to be curious ...
FRAM high mileage filter and 5W-30 synthetic. Do you mean the transmission oil? That's Redline MT90 mixed 1:1 with Penzoil synthetic syncromesh oil.
Never Ending Project Garage I use MT90 ....WHY THE PENZOIL COMBO?
Wondering why you didn't score a c60 for cheap instead

You need some turbskis bro!
Ha ha, not on this one. I want as close to stock reliability as possible.
Mine had the same problem
