  • In this video I vacuum form plugs made for the Flite Test P38 Speed build kit. Canopy, Fillets, and Superchargers. I am no professional and this is new to me regarding vacuum forming and lexan sheets. Procedure is not consistent and every pull is always different some work and some didn't. this video is raw without editing just showing you what I went through just to pull lexan parts with the plugs I made and my first ever vacuum box made myself.
note from 20:56 to 31:20 my video goes black since this is an unedited video. sorry for the inconvenience.

Very cool. I am also in the process of making a vacuum former. I believe the cause of the micro bubbles may be due to moisture in the polycarbonate sheet as it is a hygroscopic material. Try pre heating the sheet in the oven at a lower temp for a couple of hours to let the moisture evaporate out.

Yes I believed that as well and so I did try it out with a hit and a miss. Out of 5 sheets of lexan stored in a warm room then heated slowly I would get 3 good pulls without bubbles and 2 with tons of bubbles. Or the next batch of 5 I would get two good pulls and 3 nothing but bubbles.

@@BayonasRCWorld Have you tried forming with PET or PETG? I hear it does not have a moisture problem.

Would placing the filets up on supports give a better pull?
    Fascinating process! Great work!!

I tried it but still the same. I noticed that when heating the lexan to only allow 1" droop which gives the better pulling results. When over heated or more payable I always get the creases or overlaps
