I really don’t want to offend any American 🇺🇸 viewers but why do they say you need 2000 us Dollars one came on TH-cam and actually slipped up he’s out goings were 1000 us when they have a young thai woman is wrapped around them that is where the money goes. Your budget is realistic and you eat drink and are happy well done
1000 usd, is alright a month if you know how. I've spent around 2000-3000 in 1 month but that was me living good, partying, doing the tourist thing. The last 2 months, probably about 1400-1500. I went out to eat, but it was mostly the little carts. I can get a really good, filling meal for less than 150 baht.
Dude I’m 🇺🇸 and who cares man. Say what you want and who cares if they are sensitive and get offended. That’s their problem. You are right…I have a buddy, retired USA military lives in Pratumnak Hill in a great place and he is all in monthly at $1400 USD. Dude lives great.
It’s primarily because they’re either not being completely honest about their outgoings or are considering totally optional expenses as mandatory and projecting their financial irresponsibility onto others in true gatekeeping fashion. For example, renting out a $600 condo instead of a perfectly fine $300 unit. Or drinking every day. Or owning a car. Or going on a $500 trip every month. Or subsiding their girlfriends in true financially-based relationship fashion. But then they will say something stupid like if you’re living on $1000/month you’re just surviving, not living, when most of the time their definition of “living” is their inability to let go of their western conveniences/lifestyle, while ignoring the fact that just being located in Thailand with all the great things it has to offer is fantastic living in and of itself. They don’t have the right priorities in life. Fuck ‘em. They can stay in the Philippines 😏
Sounds like you have a good deal on your condo and a considered approach to your spending. As you replied to one comment, its far better a lifestyle than you could enjoy in Wales, or the UK as a whole. 😊
Have you considered staying long term in another nearby country like Cambodia or Philippines? Seems the retirement visa requirements are easier in those two countries!
Wow , another nice update , nice to see how much you spend , condo is nice and cheap , that makes a good saving finding a nice cheap but nice place to stay , your living the dream , good on you , , keep them vids coming
Wyn you are in your 60s so I guess you will get your UK pension in the not to distant future? But the problem with Thailand is that you will not receive an annual cost of living rise. Would you consider moving to the Philippines where a UK pension is treated the same as living in the UK? If you haven't already been there a trip to cebu city in the future might be worthwhile for you. I have been to pattaya 6 times since September 2022 but I had also visited the Philippines 22 times in the past. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🇵🇭

Isaan man (Steady Eddy channel) refers to the Expat Tax Thailand channel videos, and summarises some of the tax rules. UK state pension would be taxable- think it would be taxed at 10% when remitted into the country. There's even a suggestion that if you're not a tax resident anywhere (I.e. this idea that you can go from country to country, and stay less than 180 days a year in Thailand), they will tax remittances into your Thai bank however long (or short) your stay in Thailand. Inheritance may be exempt from taxation (e.g. if you sell property you've inherited to help fund your retirement) - but you'll need probate docs etc. How it works in practice is the thing, though. The more overbearing and unreasonable a law is, the more it will be flouted. Think there's a US saying - "no taxation without representation"; that's what's happening here. With regard to UK state pension not upgrading yearly. Apparently what some people do is, every few years, visit the Philippines for 6 months (and declare residency there to the DWP) - they claim it resets your pension to current upgraded levels.

Good video on a very common theme. But this one is more topical & interesting, considering the current Thai heat wave: One night I returned from the Rock in Rio concert at around 4:30 AM. Copacabana was hopping! It became immediately obvious that a significant percentage of my neighbors were entirely nocturnal. As a new Rio de Janeiro resident, this was a great revelation to me. Obviously, various All-Night coffee shops, bars, and restaurants are necessary to make this lifestyle option viable. So... are vampire hours (only) a workable option in Pattaya? And... are any expats actually living this lifestyle? (Now THAT would be a unique, and valuable YT video.)
