Thank you for bringing hush bringer to people's attention. too many magic the gathering players ignore the two best effects in the game. This is a card that is needed.
It’s REAL good
I think it represents something that needs to be fleshed out better with more cards but Hushbringer itself is a stax piece and hard stopping players from performing basic game actions is not something we need more of in my opinion. Most of the time Hushbringer isn't hosing that one player who's going to blast past everyone with his ETB deck, its going to shut off perfectly fair stuff players need to do in order to play effectively or even at all. I think there's plenty of design space for ETB interaction and I don't disagree that we need more ways to interact with them. Redirect them, steal them, pay an extra cost to trigger them, limit them to a certain number per turn that isn't zero, there's a lot you could do that isn't just completely shutting them all off.
A card that surprised me how good it was is Threats undetected. A creature double tutor for 3 mana is really nice in any green deck like Volo guide to monsters where if he goes unchecked, you can make them choose between the nastiest cards in your deck like a defiler of vigor or a silverback elder a titan of industry or like sludge monster.

@@mibbzx1493 If you're a black player then green shouldn't be your worst fear, you can easily kill their creatures, it should be those white enchantments you should hate!
One card you guys should add next time is Wyll's Reversal, super versatile and can be a blow out. Won a game recently where someone tried to Aetherflux me and I used Wyll's to save myself and wipe out 2 opponents. Plus it's only like 50 cents.

Strength Testing Hammer in Isshin 🔥
I'm not sure if you guys have covered it before, but I have won games by playing a storm of souls. In the right deck that cares about ETBs, it's bananas, but in decks that do not have any synergies, they still will benefit. I have never had it resolve and not had at least groans around the table.

Massacre girl is probably one of my favourite magic cards. She’s just a super fun board wipe
I remember seeing her in the war of the spark spoilers and going, “ I want to make her a commander.” Fast forward to now and she’s the deck I’ve invested the most time into refining.

I've been saying for a while that effects like skullwinder and healing technique are pretty crazy. Its often eternal witness with upside because you can often get the player to get removal or a board wipe or something to benefit you and the table as a whole against the archenemy. The control player is dead on board to the token deck? Well make a deal to get there farewell out of there graveyard ezpz
Seize the spotlight is sometimes weird, e.g. after a boardwipe. I've put it into a draw slot of my deck, and just recently removed it, because it does not always draw cards when needed.
With Gale on the other hand I remember a game, where I played a languish at instant speed, which felt very strong!

23:16 Definitely hadn't heard of this one before, but it's DEFINITELY going into my Kharn, the Betrayer deck.
Massacre Girl has a sister card from all the way back in Torment; Last Laugh. It deals damage instead of slinging -1/-1 counters, hits all creatures AND players, but it's a bomb of a card. You just need to figure out a way to protect yourself.
I have a Gale Izzet (Gale + a red brackground, doesn’t matter which one because we will only ever cast Gale) stormslinger deck and it is absolutely nuts. Loads of coast reducers and mana producing sorceries, you just take 20 minute turns and go to the moon it’s madness.
Sometimes I like hated cards like Hushbringer, Strict Proctor, Drannith Magistrate, Elesh Norn, etc. because others REALLY hate them. That said, my goal isn't to shut someone out of a game, but I'd love to draw out the Beast Withins, Assasins Trophys, pongifys, and any other type of removal that I'd rather have used on something that's inconveniencing my opponent, instead of using it on the pieces I'll need to win later on. Unfortunately, my experience over the years is players will complain about anything and everything in this game, and it's all opinion based, so the only strategy I'll stay away from is land destruction.
I used to run Journey to Eternity in a Meren deck and it was awesome. Super easy to flip, and a good fallback for Meren or any other reanimation strategy when all else fails. Having a repeatable effect like that on a land is just really handy.

I love seize the spotlight in my Hofri deck. The first time I played it I was surprised everyone picked fortune! No one wants to disrupt their board state.

Try out "Tempted by the Oriq", a lot of commanders nowadays (or small incredible value pieces) are sub 3 cmc and its a brutal 3 for 1.

I have been loving Gale. My most unique deck pairs with with street urchin and the runs threaten spells and interactions. I get to use/steel the best creatures and then kill it if they don't promise to not use it against me

One of the funniest turns in Commander I’ve had is when I cast Massacre Girl, and then my opponent flashed in the UR clone. 😂

Ghostly Pilferer is pretty solid, played it in my Anowon, the Ruin Thief deck at my LGS and it drew like 5 cards for me, pretty nice

The hardest working channel in the Magic the Gathering multiverse. I just renewed my patreon cause it’s time again to support the daily dose of NPN MTG.
I put Massacre Girl in my Kuon deck, I have plenty of token generators to get her going, it gets gross fast, especially with Massacre Wurm on the field.

Other decks already have more widespread hate cards, like graveyard and artifact based decks for example, and they are fine still

I actually just played size the spotlight less than an hour ago and it does indeed just read "0 mana draw 3" lmao, granted I'm in marchesa so I'm happy either way
I'm going to keep recommending it until it gets featured in one of these, but From the Catacombs is way underappreciated. It's a repeatable reanimation spell that just wins games on its own.

Might I just add that seize the spotlight is stupid busted in polymorph decks. If all of your opponents choose fame you get three creatures that you then can sacrifice to find one of your best creatures off the top and your opponents still aren’t getting their creatures back

I was playing in a game one time where a player cast a Pir's Whim that got me, maybe the saltiest, I've ever been in a game. Board states were fairly even and this person cast Pir's Whim naming everyone BUT me as a friend. I was so tilted.
I gotta recommend you guys(probably Joe) try Gaze of Pain! Only requirements for a 3+ for 1 are be in black and care about your combat step.
It's a very crappy card, because it's a sorcery. You have to play it before combat, so the opponents will have all the information to choose the best decision

Heh. Let me share a secret. You two are still sleeping on Massacre Girl. The moment I saw her previewed, I understood the raw power she exhibits. It's a deck building challenge, nothing more. I did it, and the deck is so hated in my meta that she exists primarily as a "Challenge" deck. She mows down everything - and I do mean Everything.

Stopping shenanigans is fair. Someone abusing come into play triggers and death triggers is easier than stopping it. If you are going to play a mono strategy like that you deserve to get hit by hoser cards. Hushbringer and the like are extremely easy to remove by people playing actually fair magic.
The best feeling ever is to use journey on a sakura tribe elder for extra ramp

Wave of Vitriol might be the most saltiest card to play. Imagine the game being dragging out, you literally stop the game for everyone while each player spend the next 10 min searching for dozen lands. You think board wipe slow the game, THIS SLOW THE GAME even longer. And worse it hit you too so it's not like you have any advantage.
Seize the moment in awaken the blood avatar if they choose all fame you get a free cast plus 1 mana and three cards

Ghostly Pilferer is an auto-include in virtually any deck that can cast it.
Op agent over performers a bit to well. It's like stifle for land... that gets to stay on the board at instant speed. This isn't modern, legacy, or vintage, where you have redundancies and side board for a game plan and can adjust. I can no longer play a lot of the cards I love, because of how stupid the game has become. It's either super fast agro/combo, or it's long game stax, with no in between. Thinking about it more. When you can only have 1 of each card in a deck, but can win by turn 2 or 3, it becomes more of a gamble for the best hand, than a game. And don't get me started with the turn 1 advantage with a jeweled lotus, while the rest of the game becomes a walk/stomp. If that is the magic you want, don't complain when people leave the game. I used to not drive an hour one way to play a game that last only 5 mins. /rant

I think rule 0 is nonsense. The format has become something where any defensive card is hated, it's a race to who can go off first. We need a clear ban list so we can all play and leave the salt.
Jokes on the NPN today. Strength Testing Hammer was one of the first includes I made into my recent Balan, Wandering Knight deck. Super cheap equipment that I can cheat the cost on and on average provides way too much body was too good to pass.
I added strength testing hammer to Traxos day one.

Strength Testing Hammer says roll a six-sided die. Do the numbers on that die have to be 1 through 6?
Actually you can have the infinity symbol on each side of the dice and OTK the opponent.

Isn't the unfinity card not legal in commander? I thought it needed the halo sticker at the bottom.
Nope! It's the opposite, all cards are legal from Unfinity UNLESS they have an acorn stamp. That way common and uncommon playables just look like regular cards.
