Jack Black is so good, he was the first person ever to persuade Zeppelin to release the rights for one of their songs to be used. Immigrant Song on School of Rock.
The brief history of Tenacious D. Jack Black and Kyle Gass met as part of the same comedy troop in the 80s. They formed Tenacious D and had some niche success, which included a short HBO special featuring the original music video for 'Tribute.' It's worth noting that the original version HEAVILY implied that 'the greatest song in the world' was Stairway to Heaven, but those inferences were later taken out for legal reasons. Anyway, Tenacious D remained mostly a small passion project until Jack Black began to find success in Hollywood. With the financial security that brought, it gave Tenacious D a shot at the mainstream, so they released their debut album along side the video you just watched. The band achieved moderate mainstream success, which eventually culminated in their movie, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. They now have a solid, loyal fanbase and tour fairly regularly (they just announced an Australia tour). They release new songs every once in a while and release music videos on TH-cam. Jack Black's most recent movie outing was voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Just a tip: the ENTIRETY of Pick of Destiny is worth reacting to, but you have to make a choice. You can either react to the music and spoil the movie, or you can react to the movie and spoil the music.
You would like a Tenacious D song called Kickapoo. No doubt about it! Master Exploder is another one that comes to mind. Maybe even Wonderboy. All of TD's songs are good. Ya can't really go wrong. 👍Kickapoo also features Ronnie James Dio and Meatloaf.
I think Jack Black was just born a few years too late. He would have been one of the greatest vocalists of the generation if he had started a rock band in the late 70's to early 80's. He has an awesome voice that would have fit in with that era so wonderfully. I could imagine him touring with Meat Loaf. They're both awesomely theatrical. Unfortunately, he came into prominence in late 90's and early 2000's when music had changed so much. So ya, good voice.
@@newgrl The vast majority of bands that have ever existed aren't Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones famous, and had Tenacious D existed earlier those bands still would have also existed. Tenacious D is great, but to claim they're on the level of some of the biggest bands of all time is ridiculous.

Hey!!! I just recommended this song on another video of yours 🤣 Just disregard that comment. I have a Jack Black fact.... His mom is Judith Love Cohen, she was an engineer that designed the Abort-Guidance System for the Apollo space missions. Her engineering work saved the lives of the astronauts on the Apollo 13 mission when the AGS automatically brought them home. I think that's freakin amazing!
Jack Black just has talent oozing out his pores. Seen Tenacious D live about 15 years ago and it was lit. And I’ve seen hundreds of live performances over the years.
His 'brother', Kyle Glass is an outstanding guitarist, and they do some great harmonies in their songs. Jack's dad was an engineer, but his MOTHER...Judith Love Cohen was an American aerospace engineer. She was an electrical engineer on the Minuteman missile, the science ground station for the Hubble Space Telescope, the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite, and the Apollo Space Program.
I saw the D on 4/20 right after this album released and it is legitimately one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. No joke. They rock and they do skits. Their first album was their best IMHO.
I’ve been to 100’s of concerts, seen the biggest acts, all kinds of genres. Tenacious D was one of the most memorable, entertaining, crowd invested, shows I’ve ever seen.

You're in for a fantastic evening. There's nothing like The D live. And no matter how great Jack himself is, together with Kyle Gass there's a special magic.
Yeah JB has some quality pipes. I caught a vid of him singing the national anthem for a wnba game a handful of years ago and I was taken back when I heard him belt it out.
Kyle Gass, the other half of Tenacious D's band just played our county fair over the weekend. It was great to meet him. I love Tenacious D ever since their 90's HBO tv show. Such a trip. So many people around my city didn't even know he was here.
This is from the movie "Tenacious D and the Pick Of Destiny". it definitely was inspired by "Devil Went Down To Georgia." The Devil is Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. It's a really good movie and I totally recommend checking it out. Meatloaf plays Jack Black's dad in the movie. And of course he's freaking fantastic...lol. Check the song out. It's called "Kickapoo". Kyle and him are not real brothers. Just besties. Jack Black has an incredible voice!
Tenacious D is the greatest band in the world. There legend is sung in the halls of Valhalla. Jack Black and Kyle Gass formed as a comedy singing group in the 90s and quickly rose to fame. There name comes from Marv Albert and his his phrase meaning sensational defense. The D lives on in our hearts minds and balls. Long live the D
Tenacious D had a movie come out in 2006 called Pick of Destiny. I was 3 years old when it came out. I can vividly remember my dad playing it in the car when it was just me and him. We did sing alongs and I couldn't cuss. We did that for years till I was in middle school. Still listen to Tenacious D to this day and me and him are both metalheads but in different subgenres. I even have my dad's old iPod that I use on occasion which has his old R&B and old school metal and rock music on it.
Jack Black is a national treasure. Amazing performer all around. I have seen Tenacious D live 3 times over the years and they really put on a great show.
Actually it's both Jack and Kyles band together Kyle taught Jack to play guitar and Jack's learnt SO much from him. Kyle had a band before and let Jack join his band. They formed Tenacious D and Kyle also has two other bands he plays with while Jack does his films. They're both SO great together. I love their music ❤❤❤❤❤
Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but the 'greatest song in the world' is Stairway to Heaven and this song is a tribute to that. You can hear the classic melody from when they first sing "And we played the first thing that came to our heads, it just so happened to be the best song in the world, it was the best song in the world" and the rest of the band kicks in; it runs under the whole thing, and at the end (I didn't hear it in this version, just the little guitar outro), they sing "And we plaayyed the greaaatest song. in the woooooorld... talkin' about Tribuuuuute" just like the end of Stairway. Fucking genius.
The best part of this song is the fact that they can't remember the greatest song in the world. Who hasn't had that moment. Your mind clears, and the clouds part the idea is so ground breaking, world shattering, it shall change the course of the entire world. You wake up or turn off the shower or pull over to write it down. Something occurs you get distracted... And it's gone.
Tenacious D are awesome. Back in the 90s they had a sketch show on HBO. Also, the Devil is Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame. You gotta check out their movie The Pick of Destiny. HILARIOUS! OH, AND jack voices Bowser in the Mario movie.
I had to go back & actually watch his reaction cause the first time I put it on I was just screaming the song at the top of my lungs the whole way through! 🤣🤣
I love Tenacious D, they play big festivals sometimes, they even played here in Asia! I think they recently played Hellfest? Check out The Pick of Destiny movie or at least the song Kickapoo.😂
Ive seen some great musicians; some great concerts. Tenacious D is debatably the best show Ive been to. They can satirize rocknroll (something they obviously love and have great admiration for) and poke fun at tropes within it with such expert execution, you realise why so many tried to emulate it in the first place. Good humor takes intelligence. Good music takes skill and emotion. When the smartass is too hot for teacher tis a dangerous marriage.
I dont know if anyone has pointed this out before but the devil is played by Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters singer/guitarist and Nirvana Drummer from yesteryear... Great reaction as always
Tenacious D is one of those special things that have transcended worlds. Comedically and incredibly musically talented worlds colliding. Hope you do more of the D, pause.
I was lucky enough to see them live in London a few years back...absolutely brilliant! They played their entire new album first and then ALL the hits...pure class!
Tenacious D - Roadie is a tribute to roadies. Wonderboy is a super hero song. They have tons of stuff. You need to see the last scene from the movie High Fidelity. This was the first time that I heard Jack sing.
I love me some Tenacious D. I thought it was just a skit, like a Saturday Night Live bit, when I first heard of them... but they are a thing. They tour and sell out big shows. Different genre, but much like the Blues Brothers(if you're unfamiliar definitely worth a reaction), they have real talent. Thanks for the reaction, keep on doing you... I'm a big fan!

So of course when their first album came out, I immediately grabbed it. The entire album is awesome and you should totally check it out. I remember the video for Wonderboy got a TON of play on MTV when it came out (I know because I was watching to see if the Michael Jackson video i was an extra in,"Cry", got any time. It did not. LOL) Since then I've been a massive fan and I love watching his movies and enjoying new music. One day I will see them in concert! But yeah. They can both seriously sing and play. They are brilliant musicians. If you're interested in trying some more comedy music (similar to this and Tim Minchin) I'd suggest looking up Flight of the Conchords and their songs "Business Time" or even "Hurt Feelings" (though I love their entire catalog too)

BRO. Before we even begin, I would put this album among the top 10 of all time for personal nostalgia, but... Authenticity, Comedy and genuine musical genius! An album to cherish forever this one!!
if i remember right that music video and album is connected to their movie. they had a movie. Tenacious D is a comedy band. basically they do music while it being comedy. they aren't blood related but from what i understand best friends. alot of the schtick is Jack forces them onto something to try to make their band a hit and Kyle Gass tries to counter it but ends up going with it. rise of the phoenix is pretty good.
The first time people got to see Jack Black singing mainstream was in the movie High Fidelity which was a pretty awesome John Cusack movie, where he sings Let's Get It On. That would be an awesome reaction too but I don't know how the copyright works even though the movie is over 10 years old or more by now. Also there's a pretty funny history meme about his mother, Judith Love Cohen, she created the abort guidance sequence for the Apollo 13 flight and after cleaning up last minute bugs before the launch said "I fixed it, I'm going to the hospital to give birth now" and left to have Jack.
This song is inspired by the story of Giuseppe Tartini who wrote "The Devil's Trill". It was a song he had heard the devil play on violin in a dream he had. When he woke up he desperately tried to recreated it. It was Tartini's most famous work but he thought it was so bad in comparison to the original that he always referred to it as a mere tribute.
The D is so good, hilarious but really good musicianship. High Fidelity is a film where you can see a bit of Jack's vocal skill at the end of the movie. It's a good movie as well.
jack black once did a surprise appearance on American Idol (or it could have been The Voice) and sang KISS from a Rose right in front of Seal. Dude nailed it. Of course he hammed it up on stage (the video is on TH-cam) but it was impressive nonetheless.
Jack Black is so good, he was the first person ever to persuade Zeppelin to release the rights for one of their songs to be used. Immigrant Song on School of Rock.

And we love Jack so much for that. He was right, that movie HAD to get the Led out.

BRO. Before we even begin, I would put this album among the top 10 of all time for personal nostalgia, but... Authenticity, Comedy and genuine musical genius! An album to cherish forever this one!!
YEAH, Tenactious D
love them, love your reaction
My god I remember watching this all the time on MTV when I was in primary school 🥲
Saw them live in Stockholm Sweden a few years before Covid. Super exciting consert totally bonkers good. Yeah, they can rock seriously.
if i remember right that music video and album is connected to their movie. they had a movie.
Tenacious D!! Omg I love Jack black! He is mad funny and talented
Ah heck. I never thought we’d get a tenacious D reaction. They’re great super funny but as funny as they they really make good music too lol
I love talented comedic music... they need a word for the feeling of not knowing whether to laugh or shut up and appreciate it.
