Fun fact, according to Jack Black, Dio showed up to record for this song and had brought his own mic. The producer told him that wasn't necessary, they had their own equipment, and on the first take Dio *broke* the studio's microphone with the power of his voice. He told them, "yeah, that always happens. That's why I always bring my own" so they set up his special industrial strength mic instead, and the take they recorded on that is the one that made it into the movie.
There's a behind the scenes feature about how they recorded this song and when liittle old man Dio shows up at the studio to do his vocals they're all fanboying over him, and he pulls out his own personal mic he brought from home and he explains it's because he tends to blow out most mics in studio booths and he didn't want to damage their equipment.
Meat Loaf and Dio. Both legends with great voices. And the kid as young Jack was just cast perfectly. Also cast in "Nacho Libre" as young Jack. Now more famous for his role in "The Goldbergs" I assume.
Being from a religious family, you should check out "The Loophole" by Garfunkel and Oates. Strap yourself in, though it's a bumpy, but hilarious, ride!
The movie is about Jack and Kyle finding each other and starting Tenacious D. They battle the devil for the (guitar) "Pick of Destiny" in an epic rock off, where they pull off the actual greatest song in the world, which their song "Tribute" is about. The Song is called "beelzeboss" and it is a must watch. Dave Grohl sings the devil.
Man this movie kinda big part of my childhood. I started playing guitar around this time and my uncle taught me, we watched this movie together all the time. It was a great experience to learn about the culture of rock n roll
Picture it. Stationed in Germany. Little alternative emo mixed race sarge. Got close to my soldiers. Every. Single. Weekend. We watched this movie. We know every word. Every nuance. Every quip. Every charm. One of my FAVORITE FILMS AND SOUNDTRACKS OF ALL TIME! Totally badazzzzz!!! 🤘
The Kickapoo people are an Algonquian-speaking Native American tribe and Indigenous people in Mexico, originating in the region south of the Great Lakes.
Bruh, I won't say what everyone told you already but thank you for watching that! I love, love Jack Black and some how I totally missed this. My mom and I were big fans and knowing everyone in that scene from the get go was amazing!!! The fact it was a little town like Kickapoo here in Missouri and my mom was from a little town Monroe, Missouri.. This reaction was very special to me! Thank you again! ❤
Jack Black is kind of fascinating. His parents were literal rocket scientists. His mother was part of the ground crew for the Apollo 11 mission when she was 9 months pregnant with him and was part of the science ground station for the Hubble space telescope. And Jack became a child actor, appearing in commercials as a teenager. Kind of interesting.
What I love about this is the sheer talent needed. Jack Black wrote the dragon song to sound like the sort of thing some 12-14 year old who just heard about rock would think was cool. Lots of dragons, swearing, sex, etc, but its written so well you can feel the talent involved in writing a song that sounds like its the first effort of a kid. Shrek would be calling jack blacks talent an onion it has so many layers to it.
I have not run into anyone who knows about Carmen for years. I remember listening to Carmen when I was a kid. The Champion, Soap Song, Satan Bite the Dust. He was great because it never felt like he was preaching to you but he still got his message across.
When this came out, the line about "you're grounded with no telephone" was a familiar threat, but today taking away a kid's phone would seem to carry more weight as a threat
I don’t know if this has been commented yet or not, but yes this is from the movie pick of destiny, and there’s an album paralleling the movie. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters actually plays the devil in the movie and the video. And the young Jack Black in the video, plays the older brother on the tv show the goldbergs.
My favorite is Wonderboy! A buddy I served with had the nickname Wonderboy. We could call out his name and he had to sing the chorus. Oh the stupid things we do to entertain ourselves in the military. Kickapoo is a town in Missouri but it’s also a Tribe of Native Americans. I live one country over from the Kickapoo res in Oklahoma.
They're quite the band :D This is an epic video, but they're good at such things. You might like "Wonderboy" off their self-titled cd :) Meatloaf plays the dad in this video so well. :D It's also cool to find someone else who had the Bible Adventures game :)
Jack aged 20 years just traveling all across north america trying to find the real Hollywood brruhhh icanttt xDDDD please do Tenacious D - Master Exploder
"I might have to go and check out this movie" Yes. You absolutely should. It is stupid, in the best of ways, and an enjoyable classic. It is nothing short of a masterpiece, and I feel bad that you've made it this far without ever having seen it.
Yes Kickapoo, Missouri is a real place, with a population of around 6000. Jack is not from there. He was actually born and raised in California. Fun fact: Both of Jack's parents were rocket scientists. He has three half siblings through his mother. One of his half brothers is also a scientist who invented the Blue-Force Tracking System for the military, which led to the evolution of the gps tracking system.
You should definitely check the movie out, it's great. I would be down to watch a reaction video to the movie itself, even if it's longer than your average video.
Wonderboy by Tenacious D is my favorite song ever. Pick of Destiny is a fun movie, its not the best but it has some good laughs (Master Exploder scene had me dying in the theaters).
Before you listen to people saying "watch the movie," if you haven't already watched it by now, try to find some of the HBO episodes and shorts that they did in the late 90s. There are a LOT of references to those in the movie and most reactors who react to it get thrown into the deep end without knowing any of the nods and we all suffer for it. Thanks!
Sadly you didn’t talk about Meatloaf and his iconic voice…. Another thing, maybe’ you can react to the German rap group Fettes Brot, especially about the songs : An Tagen wie diesen and Nordish by nature, you will hear one special dialect in the last song …. Greetings from a German old punk
Dio had to bring three mics into the studio because he used to blow them out so frequently with his vocals. Also if you go into your daughter's room and see an upside down cross, you do realise that symbol was one of the holiest in xtianity for centuries because it was representative of the humility of the Apostle Peter who asked to be crucified upside down, since he wasn't worthy to share the same death as his lord. Pretty sure it was the exorcist that popularised the idea that it was supposedly satanic and media has run with it since. Also yeah, the whole movie is fucking hilarious. My favourite song in the movie is car chase city.
You've reacted to the start song of the movie, you now really have to react to the end song of this movie Beelzeboss ( devil played by Dave Groll ) You've reacted to Tribute -the best song in the world, and Beelzeboss is where they made the Tribute for 👌🏼
You should react to Beelzeboss too, it's my second favorite song from the movie and it also has a great featuring artist. Dunno if anyone else in the comments will ruin who but I won't, you should def watch it.
Kickapoo nation is great but every time passing the Kickapoo Rd. exit sign from TX to NOLA it was "hit it" and the party would start... at least in 2008
Yea, check out the movie! It's great, in every sense. Seen it at least 30-something times. There's Dave Grohl from Nirvana/Foo Fighters too. Really a blast.
The dad is actually Meatloaf
damn he looked familiar but without the long hair i missed it.
Your dad is meatloaf?!?
Man a reaction video that entire movie since it's just one real long musical really would be awesome
Ha! Jumped on to say the same!

Jack Black, Meat Loaf, Dio, a good laugh and good music.
Dave Grohl was the devil.
I was just going to say that!

You'll have to watch their movie "the pick of destiny"
Love this. Meatloaf playing that role was SO WILD lmaooooo. Laughed so much.
He was considered the most EVIL rocker ever when I was young. 😂
You should listen to "F@#$ Her Gently" by Tenacious D.... It's a classic 😂
😂
He would totally lose it
And then Cock Pushups
I was literally about to type the same thing

Yeah, the movie is a lot of fun and has some catchy damn songs. Plus the cameos.
This movie is absolutely insane 😂 I've seen it a thousand times. A good watch

Such a great movie with so many great songs.
You must see the movie. The whole thing is basically a hilarious music vodeo jampacked with some really great cameos.
Dios voice so crazy they had to do it in two takes because his voice destroyed the first mic. Good thing he brings his own.
