Thanks for the great video! I have the 2022 Sprinter LTV and used your instructions to install the rearview camera. Instead of installing on the roof, I mounted the camera onto the plate that holds the original rear view camera and routed the wire through it's black plate. This allowed me to avoid creating any new holes in the camper and worked great. I also found that I could not put the camera wire through the same hole you did in the floor of the cab. I spent several hours with a wire fishing tool and could never get through to open space. In my sprinter, there is a superstructure and the muffler in that area that block that hole. I ended up running over to the driver's side and into the cab from the hole near the peddles that you showed. that one was really easy. I installed the G900 Wolfbox.
Like your video, it's cool to see how different people mount their mirror dash cameras on different vehicles. Thanks for posting it. I installed the G840S into my Cadillac SUV last night because I could not see very much behind me with the factory rear view mirror. Mounted the camera on top of the hatch and used the "Wolfbox's OEM bracket" so I could remove the old mirror without having to attach/ strap the new G840S to the old mirror for a much cleaner look. Looks like it should have came that way from GM. The only thing I would change in this video is I would use a rubber grommet and silicon sealant. Both are correct, it's only a matter of preference. I also used the parking mode cable to keep an eye on things in the parking lots but I wish Wolfbox would make a OBD2 to Type C parking mode cable available instead of the 3 wire.
I know what you mean. But then, take a look at all the holes that are probably on your roof for all the other items they had to put on so one more hole isn't gonna make much of a difference.
Good video for installation of Wolfbox camera. I did this a month ago before seeing this video. I found after installing that there is a lot of reflection from inside the cab on the monitor. We purchase the anti glare film from Wolfbox with huge improvement.
Curtis, thanks for this video; very helpful!! One question--when you attached the wire coming down so it wouldn't flop around, did you attach it to the rear wall of the rear mask or to the rear wall of the coach (to which the rear mask is mounted)? Thanks
To the rear wall of the mask. I used some cable tie pads and put some rubber caulking on the back of them with the cable already tied to it and used a long pole to seat it in place in 2 places. Stuck and seems to have held. It worked a lot easier than I thought it would. Good luck, and thanks for the positive feedback.
Curtis, thanks for this great information. Did you wire the red wire on the rear camera to anything? My understanding is that it can be wired to the reverse light wiring so that the Wolfbox switches to the reverse view automatically when you reverse the vehicle. I haven't seen anyone mention it in any install videos, though.
I do mention it at 5:35 into the video. If you hook this to your reversing lights it will overlay a grid onto the video display to help you guide while backing up. But since I am not using the camera as a reversing camera (I already have one as standard on my RV) I did not hook up the red wire.
I used 42ft on my LTV Unity RV so 33ft will not work on that brand or a similar size RV. I see that they don't seem to sell the G840H with the 50ft extension, but you can buy the extension as as extra. I put a link to it below my video. I would appreciate it if you use my link to make your purchase as the small commission helps to support my channel.
I have a 2023 Unity 24MB and I have just installed a Wolfbox G900 rear view mirror camera. I used the replacement piece that Wolfbox sells to make the rearview mirror look more like factory in stead of the strap system. This did not work because the front view camera is obstructed by the plastic shroud around the electronics. How many inches did you place the Wolfbox rto the left with the straps placed over the factory mirror? Does the mirror hold well on the factory mirror using the straps?
I used the standard installation kit and it looks like factory to me. The issue of blockage of the front camera comes up from time to time. I have the display shifted toward the driver with ~ 1" to spare in terms of the straps on the actual rear view mirror. You can adjust the tilt of the mirror and also the tilt of the forward camera. I find that the obstruction is minimal and confined to a small portion of the upper right corner of the display with the camera pointed at what it should see looking forward. Hope this helps.
There should not be any obstruction. I have tried to use the kit that makes the mirror look like factory and when I do the front view is obstructed by 50%. Also I can't replace the smaller beauty cover because the new arm obstructs the opening from whichb it comes out of.@@rvtipsequipmentwithcurtis9087
Curtis, this is awesome, thanks for sharing! I am expecting the arrival of my 2024 LTV Unity MBL this November. Unfortunately, the 2023 MB chassis on my unit will not come with the new digital rear view factory mirror (ugh). One additional question, when you use the camera at night, do you get any "light noise" from the red lights at the top of the Unity? They look to be in the field of rear view and wanted to understand if you are still pleased with the rear camera placement?
No. If I adjust the image so I can see directly below the back of the RV I can see the red light. But then, that is a useless view since the point is not to look down but to see the cars behind you. So don't worry about that.
It gives a perfect view where it is. I can see someone close to the back of the RV and traffic coming in the distance. Keep in mind that the display is wider than it is tall even though the field of view of the camera is the same in all directions. That is why they provide the capability to aim the view to your liking. Where I have the camera I can see anyone in the blind spot behind the RV and I can see traffic coming in the distance. No matter where you place the camera you will get the same angular field of view. If you are planning to install one, tape it in whatever location you think best and then drive around for a while and make sure you can see everything you want. That is what I did. If anything, I would push it back further on the roof since if I point the field of view down right behind me I get some glow from the red light. Also keep in mind, this camera is meant to be attached without a mounting bracket. So the camera itself points in a fixed direction. Wolfbox sells a model with a mounting bracket which allows the camera angle to be adjusted even after it is mounted.
This a great instructional video. Thanks for posting. I have a 2020 LTV UMB and want to do something like this. Question: I noticed you hooked the acc wire to a fuse box. Did you hook up the battery wire to a fuse box?
Yes. I ditched the cigarette lighter power adapter and got a hardwire power kit where the power connects to one of the fuses which is only on when I turn on the ignition. I have a separate video just on that.
Yes, the longer cable simply replaced the shorter cable that came with the camera. If you watch the segment in the video I show that the connectors on either end of the cable are different so they cannot be connected together for even more extension.
I wish the factory sprinter cameras were able to record and be used as security system. The birds eye view is such a waste. I’m interested in installing a rear view camera as well.
Great job and helped me a lot. Question, the hole under the rubber mat up front you used, you say it ends up behind the wheel well. Witch one, front or back? I pulled the plug but It doesn’t go directly to the underside of the body. Does me wire need to go forward or backwards.
Thank you. Mine is a 2021 model so I suspect all the models from 2019 till now are the same. If you have an earlier model it could be different. Anyway, on mine if I pull that rubber plug and look inside I see daylight toward the front right of the vehicle. I stuck a long wire through to the daylight and then crawled underneath and found the wire sticking out by the right front wheel well but not by the tire, toward the center of the vehicle on the other side of the wheel well from the tire.
@@rvtipsequipmentwithcurtis9087 well figured it out earlier. If you run a fish from that grommet towards the back, you will exit at the very rear as this passage falls into the boxed frame.
I have the 840S, does your recorded video capture a part of the rain sensor cover? For some reason mine captures the cover but looking at the live feed the cover is not in the field of view.
Go grab the latest firmware. They have a new "reversing mode" option in it. By default - if you have the reverse camera wired in, then it automatically 'magnifies' to 1.5 times to create a more normal field of view to a backup camera. The new firmware allows you to disable this so you see the normal streaming camera view all the time, even when it kicks over to 'reverse mode'.

Maybe if you mounted the camera lower down on the back panel rather than on top of the roof it may have given you a better view behind the RV.

Any problem filling the hole with dicor? Did it need a backing or a patch?
No problem. I let it dry and did a second pass. I also put a patch of Eterna Bond over that just for overkill.
