@blackwashburn I too have been obsessed with learning Eric's licks. So obsessed I bought the same Daphne Blue Fender CS Guitar. With Quicktime I can step through the video frame by frame to see exactly what and how he does it. I still can't play like Eric but I am having a ball trying.
MOST EXCELLENT...to say the LEAST! Thanks for sharing! Now, I have plenty of videos from one of the GREATEST shows I've EVER seen (if not THE GREATEST)!
He plays a mix of G natural minor scale(same notes of Bb major) with the G minor pentatonic/Blues scale. So basically G - A - Bb - C - Db - D - Eb - F with the blues third and seventh bends (Bb moving towards B and F moving towards F#) He obviously knows this all over the neck so practice that. He is also following the chords of the progression of the solo (Eb, Dm7, Gm) So yeah, playing Blues is not THAT simple.
@blackwashburn Glad you liked the video... It still gives me goosebumps when I watch it. I took the video from the front row with my little pocket Canon. It takes great HD video. I relive the show everytime watch it, the video is that good. The TH-cam compression doesn't do the original video justice.
I agree, however, I would argue that you really know why he is called god somewhere around 5:10 and then realize that he is in fact human around 6:02 haha. But watch his eyes the entire solo...he is doing it all with his eyes closed!
I don't know what he's thinking at 6:53 to reach that far and goes jazzy for a bit (I know it's not.. It's just a slang for playing an out of key note)
4:38 CLAPTON GOD
good one XD
The beast was wild that night
When he's going to the corner and getting illuminated is when the shit is about to go to another level
Clapton è come il vino, più invecchia più diventa buono e pregiato!!!!!!! Le sue performance lasciano sempre il segno!!
Epic, as usual by EC and Steve Gadd.

He is still the best
I don't care if he's the God for others or not but for me, he sure is!
