  • just a video about how i annotate my books for everyone whose been asking!!
    F.A.Q.
    1. KATE you read so many Murakami novels?? Where do I start??
    I have an entire video made for the purpose that I get asked this literally every video I mention Murakami - I have it in a playlist or you can easily search it on my channel!
    2. How do you pronounce your username?
    Pfeil is pronounced “file” - it’s German
    3. What is your college major/what do you do in college?
    I was originally a nutrition major and I’m now in English Education. I’m planning on teaching English in Korea
    4. What languages do you know?
    English, Spanish, German, Korean and ASL. Yes, feel free to leave comments in any of these languages and I’ll try my best to reply in that language - my German is a little rusty since I only use it with my Grandparents and I’m currently learning Korean soooo cut me some slack lol English and Spanish though I’m (basically) fluent.
    5. YOU LIKE KPOP???? WHAT GROUPS/PEOPLE/SONGS?
    Yes, I love Kpop - I post kpop related unboxings/MV reactions and first listens and stuff like that on this channel! My bias groups are EXO (and EXOCBX) and Seventeen (also SPEED but they’re disbanded) and my UB is Zhang Yixing. I also fucking LOVE Bastarz, SHINEE, Twice, Red Velvet, and Up10tion. I also watch kdramas so totally feel free to chat with me about them in the comments! And I’m fucking OBSESSED with Idol Producer (Jeffrey stan over here) so feel free to talk to me about that too lol
    6. Where are your glasses from??
    9 times out of 10 they’re from Firmoo.com - I have bought my own glasses from there but they also do send me free ones sometimes to be able to show you guys. I genuinely love this company and their frames - they’re PERFECT for students who need some cheap but cute frames!!

    I’m studying to be a teacher as well and have been going through classics and tabbing them up similarly to how you did it.

    Please be my teacher. You put in more effort before you’re a teacher than some of my teachers do now

    I'd love to see an in depth video about how you annotated the book you annotated 'for teaching'.

    Great idea of tabbing chapters/ acts. I have many books where I want to know how many more pages till the next chapter and this will be very helpful.

    I think it's really neat how you annotate your books and that it depends on the book as to how you decide to do it. I don't write in my books but I have recently started annotating by using sticky notes and tabs. I think it is wonderful that some people do feel comfortable writing and highlighting in their books. I think it's a wonderful thing to do and allows more of a connection with the book. I really like how in depth you were about certain books that you loved. Annotating can be time consuming but also fun and there's so many creative ways to annotate. Eventually teaching about favorite books is a great idea!

    Thank you so much for the video! After a long day of classes and studying it was so relaxing to watch!
    I'm really inconsistent with tabbing my books or highlighting that's why I was looking for some inspiration to work on that.
    I usually just mark few quotes that I find interesting and that's it but later when I go over the marked places I don't remember why I enjoyed that specific quote.
    Definitely got some ideas from you though!
    Good luck with your finals and papers you have to write!

    I really enjoyed this video! I love it and find it super interesting to see how others tab and highlight their books. I’m really enjoy doing this to my own books. I. feel like you enjoy the story a lot more and make the book more of your own. I also have this weird hope that someday my kids will read some of my favorite books and as they are reading they can see some of my own thoughts and feelings throughout the book. As always love your videos Kate! 🙃

      I agree!! I love tabbing/highlighting a book to make it more of my own! no one else will highlight the same things, and no one will read a book the same way!

    Yesssss I love videos talking about how people tab and annotate their books; I find both the ways and the reasons why people write and tab and sticky notes their books really interesting because everyone does it so differently.
    I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do some sort of video like this at some point because I definitely tend to do it differently depending on the book and why I’m annotating it.

      SAME I find my way of tabbing is honestly pretty boring and SUPER subjective - I just do what I like/what i think is important lol if i was to go into why i highlighted everything i ever had there would be like 3 reasons lol besides for school then its an entire essay 😂😂

      HI! I know that this is an old comment, but do you highlight AND tab them? Ive been doing both, and I cant tell if it because I REALLY like the book, or if Im not doing a good job annotating and if Im just going overboard....

    Are you at all interested in doing challenges?
    If so, can you do a month of reading the "for dummies" series? filming what happened with it, if anything shifted for you/ in your life, and what you expected going in vs what you were surprised by if you were surprised by anything.

    Hey! I'm studying a career that isn't related to literature so I have no idea how to analyze a book in detail. It would be really cool if you did a video analyzing a book in a more school way(? Haha sorry my english, greetings

    • @murakamireads
      @murakamireads  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      im not gonna lie, learning to analyze a book lowkey takes a lot of time and a LOT of effort (as much as non-literature majors like to say isn't true). It's not something I could necessarily teach in a video - it would involve me teaching it over a long period of time (like in a school setting lol) It's what we write 10+ page essays and spend semesters and semesters doing and learning how to do. So I really don't think a video would work for that :(
      If you're wondering how i personally analyze books then I would only say watch my book reviews or wrap ups lol I've done in depth reviews for all of murakami novels and in those I give my own interpretations for what is happening and what my theories are for the book.

    I some times like to keep books perfectly and put them on my shelf. I love the new book smell. :) I have the picture of doran grey. Havent red it though. What was the book to read like.. I watched the film. 🙄 lol
    I had annotating one book. That was fun.

    I annotate and use sticky notes, but what is so annoying is that sometimes the highlighter goes through and the sticky part of the sticky note peels off the ink from the book, ughhhhh

  • @pattiecake11
    @pattiecake11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What kind of tabs do you use?

  • @catherineoconnor6025
    @catherineoconnor6025 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hiya, whats the picture of Dorian Grey like?... ive heard its pretty hard going.... 🤔 And i think the book is bigger then the book you have. I had actually red great expectations for english class, i had to write an assey also... oh my god i know the story so well now!!

    • @murakamireads
      @murakamireads  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dorian Grey is a classic novel about a man who gets his portrait painted and the painting ages while he stays young. It’s a pretty short novel though but mine is a very different edition than I’ve seen others have so that might be confusing
