Seriously it was such an inspiration! I had never even considered doing it until then, but you were so passionate about it that it made me very intrigued! Thank you, Chloe! 💕
I just started annotating and writing in my books and tbh its kinda scary at first but in the end it makes me feel even more connected to the books I'm reading and makes it a more personal experience 💕it's so fun, I want to go back and annotate all of my favorite books now 😂
So you know the only way I like writing my notes inside the book is because I’ll plb run out of post it notes and it’s a bit of an upkeep so for me I think I’ll stick to writing my notes at the end or inside the. Book,
Same here I just started doing it to I was brought up to never deface a book like that and my mum used to give me into trouble for it, I showed my mum and described it to her and she understood the benacits make sense, but I used to send them to charity shops and hand them out once I read them and I don’t have a big house to keep them, so I might have to dump them now so I’m ok annotateing my books with a hint Of uneasiness somehow.
I used to say I will never write in my books, it ruins them blah blah but then I joined a book club on Litsy. It’s 4 people to a group, we all pick 1 book and we annotate that book then we send it off to the next person. It’s fun and it got me really enjoying annotating in my books. Especially my favorites. If this was a few years ago I would’ve bawled and slapped myself for “ruining” a book like this haha but now I love it and love how it really connects me more to the story.
Loved this video! Chloe also inspired me to annotate and tab my books too, It honestly got me out of my summer-long (plus a month or two) book slump and I sped through my last read annotating. It's so much fun and it's also really refreshing to go back and see your thoughts or what you thought was interesting to underline and tab.
Yes!! I think that's the best part: is being able to see what scenes stood out to you in your first read and whether they still mean the same thing to you
I love the idea of tabbing at the top for special scenes - this is something I'm definitely going to try. I'm still working on my own method, but this is so helpful!! Thank you
Sometimes I feel like I need to highlight a certain part of a book because I loved it or it left a huge impact but then I remember I will literally cry if any writing or ink or pencil in general gets near my books
I've always been very anti about writing in books and even breaking spines etc. Saying that, more recently Ive been thinking it would be nice to have my reactions and thoughts written in some of my favourite for future family member to read. Maybe I'll buy a new copy and write in that first rather than my first editions 😂
Totally understandable! I really only do it with my favorites but it's just so nice to see what my original thoughts were and it makes the experience even more fulfilling
I had to do this so much while studying literature, I am very happy to just read for pleasure nowadays and not feel like I have to write a thesis on the book later. For someone who is not traumatized in this way, this might be a good way to get a deeper understanding for how a book "works".
I am copying your method. I really like how you annotate your books. It's a very good way to do it. I feel like this is the best annotating video I have ever seen and to that it will actually help me learn how to annotate. I read a darker shade of magic before without annotating and now for the second trial I will annotate. Thank you for this wonderful video this is very helpful for me.
In my experience with annotation, I went through a lot of pens and I find that fineliners like the MICRON ones are the best. They also work great for bujos and they don't bleed through!
See Chloe sold me on annotating when she said your kids can go back later or you can go back later and read them and remember how you felt . So I started just writing in my books and it was a lot easier for me then I though lol I really want to get tabs but idk where to get any.. Anyone have suggestions for book tabs?
hahah it's truly not as difficult as it sounds! But my lazy soul definitely resonates with this comment, because occasionally it does feel like too much work
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have just started booktube and noticed everyone annotating their books and wondered how people were doing that process. I think I will plan to adopt this process. Really appreciate you going through this process!
the sticky notes are a good alternative to writing in books for people who don’t want that! your annotations were oddly satisfying to see they look so neat and organized 🙏🏼
I have a planned system to probably own two versions of the books I absolutely love. Example, I'm writing in my paperback version of "the mortal instruments." And I plan on leaving the hard copy versions alone, and let people borrow that version. If course, I'm not going to annotate every book I own, and have 2 copies. Just for the books I love the most.
I’ve started to find that I’m wanting to write in the Game of Thrones books. I’m currently reading A Clash of Kings and whilst I’ve been annotating with tabs for a while now I can see myself writing in my books soon which is brilliant!
I love how in depth your tabbing system is. It was really interesting to see how your tabs work and how you came to that system in the first place. I personally don’t ever like to tab or write in my books (except in my ALA books), but this was still super fun to hear about!
Brittany you’re the reason I got back into reading a few months ago and I’ve brought all the books I see you loving and I can’t put them down!! Currently binge watching all your videos rn🥰x
You inspired me to start annotating books and I realized that it really is easy so that I can explain an exact scene to others and I can easily give out my own opinions and how I felt while reading that specific part. THANK YOU!! ❤💙💚💛💜💓💕💖💗💘💝💞
Hi Brittany, great video. My method differs slightly. I use hundreds of coloured plastic tabs but I number each one. When I finish the book I then use index cards and number each line to correspond with the numbered tab. I write a brief description on the line so it makes it easier to recall why I tabbed that particular line or page. Hope that helps.
I love annotating!! I have the same sticky pack and I use the edge too and struggle at the ends when it curves haha. I relate so much with using it against my knees! The pens I use and absolutely love for annotation are the papermate inkjoy gel pens. I use matching colors with my stickies so even if I don’t sticky the page I still have the same color! They don’t bleed at all maybe just a slight shadow for darker colors but no bleeding through. 💕
I found these sticky tabs that are lined that I use mostly because I still feel weird about writing in a book that isn't for school. I also end up donating a lot of my books once I'm done with them and they've been sitting on my shelves for too long without me picking it up again (no matter if I loved the book the first time I read it or not). That way, I can make my notes, but also have the option to remove them if I ever decide I no longer want the book anymore, or if I'm really loving a library book and tab it up, I can buy a copy and transfer them to my own copy. I also found erasable highlighters that are super cool and come in pastel colors!
Great video! I want to try out annotating. I want to start with my Twilight series, since I know it so well. I love the idea of writing in books and annotating, but it makes me a little nervous that when I want to read it again, the tabs and notes will be distracting. But I just realized that if I wanted to read it without the notes, i could just rent it from the library or something instead. So I'm gonna give it a shot!
The reason I started annotating my books was because I wanted my children or grandchildren to be able to see my thoughts of when I was their age. I just imagine us sitting in my huge library of books that I have collected over the years and them pointing out annotations that they enjoy while we read.😊
I think it is a progress. My first step was: reading a book. The 2nd was: tab with one colour. The 3rd was: tab and underline with pencil as well as comment sometimes with pencil. Now I might got to the next level and highlight the passages and write with ink. Seriously, it changes the reading experience. The book I just finished is full of tabs and notes and it feels like I have put a part of me in that book.
Great Video I use to annotate in high school many many many year's ago. But I think I'm going back to the stickers and writing notes on the book themselves because I've notice that I get the story of the book but I always missed the small details and I figured its the details that's in the heart of the books. So once Again Thank You For This Video
second video i have seen by you and love your channel so far! But, i just finished the Throne of glass series, and i LOVE IT! i am reading the assassin's blade today. Never understood why people annotated their books...makes sense now.
This was so interesting! I only tab my favourite quotes in books. I also take notes on a separate piece of paper about what I want to cover in my wrap ups.
I love this video! Chloe inspired me as well and I’ve started annotating during my Harry Potter reread. It’s so fun and I wish I’ve done it for years. I’m still kind of figuring out my system as well
this is so aesthetically pleasing & organized! I don’t think i’m to the point where I can use a bunch of colors but I do want to try out using one or two colors for quotes I love! I always find myself taking pictures of quotes I like so I might try this out & maybe go on from that if I feel comfortable :)
This is so interesting! It's cool to see how people's systems differ! For me, I only use four tabs, and the purple tabs I use for things specific to that book, so for instance when I tabbed Strange the Dreamer, I tabbed all the really nice descriptions Laini used, and also for the different languages that was used. Loved this video Brittany! (You can tell I'm going through my watch later list lmao sorry for any spam). Chloe inspired me to do my video too!
This is really helpful! My goal for 2019 is to start a blog where I will write book/movie/album reviews, and I want to make sure my reviews are critical, so I need something like this. Great video!
Yes making reviews critical is actually something I struggle with, but this has improved my overall reading experience (which I think has aided my reviews!)
I loved this video, it gave me some ideas of how I want to annotate my own books, not just for reviews but that I can take away alot of information from the book 🖤
What a great idea. I'm always trying to come up with efficient ways to annotate without covering books in post-its, but I really like your colour-coding system.
i persnally put bigger post its in my bbook when i wanna ride something, so i have for example a purple post it (small) and then when you go to the site there is ab bigger white post it where i write my thought on. i was also thinking about buying transperent big pst its so you can see the text. I just have the feeling of runing my book when i write on the page
Ohh I feel that, I feel like half the fun while annotating is knowing that if you ever reread it you'll be able to see the scenes that caught your eye the first time, even still I think that just tabbing a library book would be helpful! And you could always remove the tabs after!
Yay!!!! I’ve been waiting for this video forever!!! I’ve been trying to find a better way to annotate my books!! I’m so excited!! Sending all my love and good vibes!❤️
Yeah the paper tabs don’t look great. I’m still at Stage 2... but trying to have a key. I use green for interesting. Yellow is my angry or annoyed. Blue is my sad. How do you make notes for reviews? I.e. you tab and underline and make notes - but do you collect notes anywhere? So so so true about people not knowing how much work goes into kids. I have some tabs like yours but mine are teeny tiny... and I’ve actually lose them in my apparent somewhere 😂😂 Can’t wait for the bullet journal videos! 💕💕💕
I actually don't collect notes anywhere else! I probably should since it would likely make my wrap-ups and booktalks easier, but I haven't reached the stage of motivation yet hahaha. And yesss! I want to make art related videos in the future I just don't know exactly what yet! Also, I swear I lose my tabs all the time and they always turn up in the weirdest places!
I was super against everything about annotating in books, but I watched Naya's video and yours and tried it on my copy of Dorian Gray, and it's really fun! Also, I'm never giving my books away at all in my lifetime so it's alright :D Plus I feel like it's gonna help writing reviews, mine is just all screaming and nonsense haha
I saw that you annotated Children of Blood and Bone. I’m currently reading it and I have a strong itch to annotate it. There’s A LOT of things I want to take notes about, look back on, research about discuss, etc.
Yes I used to annotate my books when I was in hightschool and my teacher when nuts lol, I have neuropathy colour pencil they have lots of colours, do you think they would work? I make my own page markers and page darts.
I literally just started annotating a few days ago, and it’s been nerve wrecking yet really fun. This video was really fun to watch, love the amazing content ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I haven't actually made on yet (or even bought the notebook hahah) but once I figure out what kind of layout I'd like and things like that I'd love to make videos on it!
This was amazing!! Thank you!! I think I am going to annotate my Harry Potter books (I already tab my books) but I think I’m going to underline and write in them!!!! This was a big help!!!
i annotate whatever i want (usually quotes) and i dont care what color it is so yeah.. i dont think i have a system😂 but i really like the idea of annotating on the top of the book - the best scenes and parts (f.e. the assassins blade), i think im gonna use it, thank you😅❤️
I actually go really in depth in it with my Readalong Announcement video! Basically though, in publication order, it's Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Assassin's Blade, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms
I useually give my books I finish reading to my dad because he loves reading to, but I’d love to start annotating my books but I can’t get used to doing it, I have Jane Austin collection and I got the death comes to Pemberley and I didn’t know that was a sequel and now I’m half way through if till I learned I should have read pride and prejudice first so I’m just continued wheee I am left off from, sorry if I sound mean.
I would really like to try out annotating one day! Great system! I think I’ll do this maybe on something I reread cause that does sounds like a good place to start 😁
Hi from city of Robin Hood 🏹 I’m just reading “to kill a kingdom” by Alexandra Christo, so is good 😄 always great watching ur video!! Happy reading to u!! 🍁📖
This might be a stupid question but how do you tab paperbacks? I feel like the tabs would get crushed when you put the book on a shelf since there’s no cover that’s a bit longer than the pages
I feel when I try an annotate while reading I pay more attention to like funny things or things I can tab rather than comprehending the book. So instead I read till I stop then go back through
Ahhh that’s so cool how my video inspired you to annotate! I loved this video and your tips!!! ☺️💕✨💕
Seriously it was such an inspiration! I had never even considered doing it until then, but you were so passionate about it that it made me very intrigued! Thank you, Chloe! 💕
Hi
Mya Mya this might be late but these tabs can be from walmart or target (especially the dollar section)! if not, office max/depot have them forsure!
i love hearing about your method and choosing which each tab means!! we love a thorough queen
hahahah thank youuuuu!
I just started annotating and writing in my books and tbh its kinda scary at first but in the end it makes me feel even more connected to the books I'm reading and makes it a more personal experience 💕it's so fun, I want to go back and annotate all of my favorite books now 😂
RIGHT! I had the same feeling once I started annotating

I've always been very anti about writing in books and even breaking spines etc. Saying that, more recently Ive been thinking it would be nice to have my reactions and thoughts written in some of my favourite for future family member to read. ErklaerMirDieWelt SO TRUE. like, i have shivers down my spine every time someone recommends annotating books for pleasure to me.

I really want to get tabs but idk where to get any..
Anyone have suggestions for book tabs?
I buy mine on amazon! I think I just looked up tabs and picked the cheapest ones haha
I get some at Wal-Mart and target
This is why I dont annotate, it is alot of work and obviously took a very long time to create/perfect. But it looks great.
hahah it's truly not as difficult as it sounds! But my lazy soul definitely resonates with this comment, because occasionally it does feel like too much work

you might have possibly convinced me into writing in my books which is something I would NEVER EVER have even thought about doing in the past
I’ve started to find that I’m wanting to write in the Game of Thrones books. I’m currently reading A Clash of Kings and whilst I’ve been annotating with tabs for a while now I can see myself writing in my books soon which is brilliant!
I use Micron and Muji Pens in my BuJo and they do not bleed through.

Awww that's so fantastic to hear
For the writing part, Walmart sells mini notebooks and that’s what I use. I keep a basket on my bookshelf for all of my mini composition notebooks
You inspired me to start annotating books and I realized that it really is easy so that I can explain an exact scene to others and I can easily give out my own opinions and how I felt while reading that specific part. THANK YOU!! ❤💙💚💛💜💓💕💖💗💘💝💞
Of course!! :)
you make annotating so fun!! I might start annotating books after I become to be comfortable annotating my English work
Hi Brittany, great video. My method differs slightly. I use hundreds of coloured plastic tabs but I number each one. Ooo I'll have to look into those! Thank you so much!

Writing in books, in anyway, hurts my soul.
Same 😩
same
Léa Crl lol 😂 sane
U can put a sticky note over it and write what you want. I don't wanna harm my 'precious' either lmao
Nice, one of the better annotation videos I've seen. Nicely organized.
Ive never Annotated my books but after watching this I wanna try it out😁
Oh my goodness I'm so glad!! :)
The reason I started annotating my books was because I wanted my children or grandchildren to be able to see my thoughts of when I was their age. I just imagine us sitting in my huge library of books that I have collected over the years and them pointing out annotations that they enjoy while we read.😊
I love your pjo and hoo collection
So once Again Thank You For This Video
i literally love watching you’re videos you’re just so pretty omg
Aww thank you so much!
I started annotating thanks to you and I am loving it! It helps me focus more to the story and remember things!!! Thank yoU!
Yes! I agree, it definitely helps me absorb a story more! I'm glad I inspired you to start ✨
second video i have seen by you and love your channel so far!
I wish taking notes helped me!! I sometimes try to wrap up all my thoughts on a book once I've finished it but I don't like writing it down haha
Your makeup looks AMAZING in this video. And I love this system!!!!
Aww thank youuu! 💕
I love this video! Chloe inspired me as well and I’ve started annotating during my Harry Potter reread. It’s so fun and I wish I’ve done it for years. I’m still kind of figuring out my system as well
She's such an inspiration, honestly! And I definitely want to annotate my copies of Harry Potter in my reread (whenever I get to it!)
this is so aesthetically pleasing & organized! I don’t think i’m to the point where I can use a bunch of colors but I do want to try out using one or two colors for quotes I love! I always find myself taking pictures of quotes I like so I might try this out & maybe go on from that if I feel comfortable :)
Yes! I used to always take pictures and when I moved on to this it actually made it even easier to remember more of my favorite parts!
That's such a cool way to do it!! And you're fine!! I normally burn through all my Watch Later at once too!
Brittany: I probably wouldn't let them read the book.
Me: hahahahaha I never let anyone read any of my precious book babies!
Like if you're the same 😂
Same
Cant wait to see how this could work for my reads. Cant wait to come back to book tune in Jan
I hope it helps!!
omg to be honest I never found a annotation video that actually stuck with me and this one did, Slowly but surely I'm finding my own way thank you :)
Oh that's amazing! I hope you enjoy doing it :)
I loved this video, it gave me some ideas of how I want to annotate my own books, not just for reviews but that I can take away alot of information from the book 🖤
Thank you for this. I am just going back to school for prerequisites before Nursing. This will help me so much 😍👌🏼
What a great idea. I'm always trying to come up with efficient ways to annotate without covering books in post-its, but I really like your colour-coding system.
Thank you!! :)

I just have the feeling of runing my book when i write on the page
I love using a highlighter color that patches my colored tabs :)
Highlighters look amazing! I agree
I've wanted to annotate since watching Chloe's video too. But, atm I get 90% of the books I read out from the library
Ohh I feel that, I feel like half the fun while annotating is knowing that if you ever reread it you'll be able to see the scenes that caught your eye the first time, even still I think that just tabbing a library book would be helpful! And you could always remove the tabs after!
Me too. ;-;
This was really helpful! I can finally annotate competently 👌🏼
I'm glad it helped!! :)
Yay!!!! I’ve been waiting for this video forever!!! I’ve been trying to find a better way to annotate my books!! I’m so excited!! Sending all my love and good vibes!❤️
Aww yey! I hope it was helpful!!
I’m a newbie annotater also - I started with Cinder this month!
I’d love to see some of your art B 💕💕
Really can’t wait for you to read In an Absent Dream!
I have some tabs like yours but mine are teeny tiny... and I’ve actually lose them in my apparent somewhere 😂😂
Can’t wait for the bullet journal videos!
Ahhh i LOVE the lunar chronicles, currently finishing the last hundred pages of winter
Wonderful!
@@nailaimtiaz5383 yas its one of my favourite series
I was super against everything about annotating in books, but I watched Naya's video and yours and tried it on my copy of Dorian Gray, and it's really fun! Also, I'm never giving my books away at all in my lifetime so it's alright :D

I saw that you annotated Children of Blood and Bone. I’m currently reading it and I have a strong itch to annotate it. There’s A LOT of things I want to take notes about, look back on, research about discuss, etc.
You should! 😊💕
OMG YES - I’m down for this.
💕💕💕
Yes I used to annotate my books when I was in hightschool and my teacher when nuts lol, I have neuropathy colour pencil they have lots of colours, do you think they would work? I make my own page markers and page darts.
YES! NEVER CLICKED SO FAST! Thank you so much for this, so so helpful and interesting ☺️💗
Of course! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I literally just started annotating a few days ago, and it’s been nerve wrecking yet really fun. This video was really fun to watch, love the amazing content ❤️❤️❤️❤️
omg i'd LOVE if you showed your bullet journal! even if it's just in a vlog lol😂😂💓💓
YES! I want to do the same! I think it'll be a fantastic reading experience
YES! do it! Am currently rereading the series and it is so much fun. Watch out for a ton of foreshadowing in chap 4 of the chamber of secrets!
I get the same tabs but mine have red as well and I get them from dollar tree and they are the arrow type.
Thank you for this video, super inspiring!
did you end up finding your drawing of Abraxos? I would love to see him!
love this video. Curious, where did you get your bookshelf?
It's the Billy Bookshelf from IKEA!
i annotate whatever i want (usually quotes) and i dont care what color it is so yeah.. i dont think i have a system😂 but i really like the idea of annotating on the top of the book - the best scenes and parts (f.e. the assassins blade), i think im gonna use it, thank you😅❤️
Of course! I'm glad you found a tip ✨
How do you know when it's foreshadowing or do you go back when you realize for certain?
What is the order for the throne of glass book? I'm dying to read them, but I have no idea the order! I love your videos!! You are so inspiring to me!
I actually go really in depth in it with my Readalong Announcement video! Basically though, in publication order, it's Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Assassin's Blade, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms
Ugh I love it all so much! I've wanted to start annotating for soooo long but I'm so nervous to write in my books.
It's so nerve racking!! But I'm glad I started with a series that was already my favorite, because it made it easier
I do use paper tabs a lot but mostly for books I have to read for university
It's definitely a personal preference thing!! :)
I have been wanting to start annotating. Is there a certain brand of pens and tabs you use?
Please can u do a bookshelf tour
At the end of the year! 🤗
Great video! I keep going back and forth on whether I want to annotate my books and this was very helpful! 😊
Oh I'm glad!! It definitely adds to my reading experience and I'm now an annotation enthusiast
I loved this video !!
You are gorgeous! I have started annotating my books recently, I am starting with the Harry Potter Series💕💕
That's the perfect series to start with, in my opinion! haha I definitely will be annotating them when I finally get around to my reread!
Absolutely LOVE your videos 💖💖💖
Thank you, thank you!!
I love Signo pens, they're very good
Ooo thank you for the recommendation!
I want to annotate my summer reading book so I’m watching videos but I can’t tab bc of corona and can’t go out for them😬
Just discovered your channel and have subscribed! I want to film a video like this because I’ve recently also gotten into annotating
You should! I love seeing how other people annotate!
This was such a good video!!! I love annotating even tho I was terrified of it before 😂 anyway, your system is great!! ❤️
Aww thank youu! 😁
Off topic....where are your book shelves from? I love them and would love to have a book wall at my house! Thank you!
Billy Bookshelves in white :) from IKEA!
@@BrittanytheBibliophile thank you!! They look lovely!
💟💟💟💟💟🤓So helpful! Thx so much. To me this makes the Books looked loved.☺
I agree! That's such a nice way to put it ✨
I would really like to try out annotating one day! Great system! I think I’ll do this maybe on something I reread cause that does sounds like a good place to start 😁
Rereads definitely make it easier!! :)
i really want to start anotating my books! i tried to do so once but i couldn't find a method so i gave up, this video was very helpful
Oh good! I'm glad :) I definitely feel like it's a very laid back method
Hi from city of Robin Hood 🏹 I’m just reading “to kill a kingdom” by Alexandra Christo, so is good 😄 always great watching ur video!! Happy reading to u!! 🍁📖
Oooo I've been wanting to read To Kill a Kingdom!! Happy reading to you as well!
This might be a stupid question but how do you tab paperbacks? I feel like the tabs would get crushed when you put the book on a shelf since there’s no cover that’s a bit longer than the pages
I actually have yet to tab a paperback! So, if anyone has please help us out! haha
Yesss! I am so excited for this video!! ❤😍
Update: loved it! 💛
Ahhh yey I'm glad!!
39 seconds in, the camera focused and I noticed your hush hush series is out of order and I can't unsee it 😭😭😭
You could always cut the square tabs into arrows
Truuuue, but that's a lot of work! And it doesn't bother me enough to put in that much effort hahaha
Wow your method is great!! And what camera are u using?❤️
Thank you!! And it's a Canon Rebel T6i!
where did you purchase your uk hardcover of nevernight? i’ve looked for it EVERYWHERE and it’s always either unavailable or very expensive
Abebooks.com! It's a used online bookstore!
I'm definitely trying this! My mess needs to grow into actual notes
Hahah that's how I felt before I began annotating! I hope it works well for you!
Thank you!
I feel when I try an annotate while reading I pay more attention to like funny things or things I can tab rather than comprehending the book. So instead I read till I stop then go back through
How do you annotate books if they are on Kindle or the Nook?
I actually am not much of an ebook reader! The times I have read ebooks I tend to just use the highlighting feature!
Brittany I love ur videos but my favorite videos are throne of glass series I watch them 5 times a day
Aww I'm glad!! They're some of my favorites to make! My Empire of Storms booktalk should be up next Friday!
Brittany the Bibliophile I can’t wait yay
