    I haven’t ever annotated my books but I’ve seen a lot of people do it recently and it makes me want to give it a go!

    this was really interesting, I love seeing how people annotate their books because there are a lot of ways to do it. I personally started earlier this year, I annotate just my rereads or books I know I'm gonna like (for example Game of Thrones). as always great video, love your content!

      Game of thrones is one I want to annotate at some point! When I have the time to reread them all 😂 and thank you!

    I've never anotated any of my books, I'm not sure I like the idea of writting in a book 😅😅 but I'm always really curious when people show books they have anotated, I think it's kind of a way to see how people think and what they find important/interesting, so I really like to see this type of video from one of my favourite booktubers 🙌🤗🙌

      I used to be the same! But I usually end up with multiple copies of favourite books so at least then I can have a messy version with all my notes in and a pretty, pristine copy ahaha. Aw thank you!

      you can also write in them with pencil instead of pen, then you can erase it later if you don’t like it :)

    I've only 'annotated' my absolute favorite book once many years ago, and it didn't went any futher than underline a few quotes with a pencil.. But I would love to give it a go, because to me it seems like a way to delve more into the story and better understanding in an organized way..

    • @AFrolicThroughFiction
      @AFrolicThroughFiction  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being hesitant is understandable - even now I tend to get another copy cheaply to write in instead of messing up a favourite copy ahaha. It can be so satisfying though and I love seeing other people’s notes on a book

    This was so interesting to watch! I used to annotate my required reading books when I was in university as a way of capturing my thoughts "in the heat of the moment", and of highlighting scenes dealing with key themes. It definitely made it easier to find interesting parts to write about in essays (but if I had more complicated thoughts that I couldn't fit in the margins, I also had a MS word document open as well).
    For recreational reading I don't tend to annotate my books very often. Sometimes if there's a really interesting quote that I want to share, I'll put a small sticky note inside and refer back to it when planning a BookTube video or Goodreads review.

      I have to be careful with uni reads because if I don’t enjoy it all that much then I’ll donate them after, but can’t do that if they’re written all over 😅 it definitely helps though, which is the annoying balance I have to find

    I love these videos! So interesting how everyone does their own thing, I also have how I annotate on my channel. Loved BasicallyBritt's video as well ☺️.
    I just love seeing what comes to different people naturally, I'm a pretty emotional reader so my tabs tend to show how I'm feeling throughout the books.

    I really liked your video and appreciate the way in which you use your pens/highlighters vs post-it notes (also, I agree that the transparent ones are the best for this, so I exclusively use those). I'm not a literature student, but I love reading and would like to try to get into annotating beyond just highlighting certain sentences, so I'm trying to see what other people are doing and I really like what you said here.
    I love the way you ocassionally draw, too. I think that's such a beautiful thing to do and adds to the experience (sadly, I'm personally struggling to draw a straight line, so I'm not giving that a try lol).
    Just like you, I also struggle a lot with remembering the details, even of the books I loved, once a certain amount of time passes. I'm now trying to write down things in Notion, just some basic things about the book - the main characters' names, the main themes, a few things I liked, a few things I disliked, something I found interesting and a few quotes. Sometimes I would look for other people's comments (either professional critics' or just avid readers') and add them as well. I'm hoping this will help me with retaining key information later on.
    This is my first time on your channel and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for a lovely video!

  • @Amyduckie
    @Amyduckie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Found this really helpful. I annotate my books and flag them. I do colour code, but I have decided to reassign my colours every single time I do annotate and flag my books, because they key I used for my first book might not work in the next book. And it means that I won’t run out of the same colours all the time.

    • @AFrolicThroughFiction
      @AFrolicThroughFiction  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh that’s a good idea, changing the colours! I see so many people run out of colours and then just have endless amounts of one colour they don’t use that much

      A Frolic Through Fiction that’s the hope. I did still run out of pink after annotating Red, White and Royal Blue when it was the marker for ‘love’. 😂

    I am the type that goes like “pfft, sure I can write on my books, no big deal at all, I just prefer post its,” but in reality, I just can’t bring myself to write on my books to save my life.

    • @AFrolicThroughFiction
      @AFrolicThroughFiction  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do people annotate books that are not fantasy books with no world building? I don’t read fantasy and would like to see how and what people annotate in a book with no fantasy or magic.
