    Look at the end result of your annotating - just LOOK at the thoroughly lived-in wonder of it! Glorious!

    I was always taught NOT to write in books and that stuck with me until I had a great professor in college who pushed me to start annotating, now I can’t read a book without doing it. Great video!!

      TONY SKUBIS this journey is so similar to mine! I was always so against writing in books, and now over a year later I rarely read without a pencil in hand 😂

      How ironic! I’ll tell you, after practicing annotating I noticed I began reading deeper in contrast to before annotations. I believe it helps one really connect with particular thoughts and feelings, also comprehension. I like how you have the color coded stickies!

    A lovely presentation of your system! Thanks for sharing. I find your system simple yet comprehensive. For a couple of reasons I do all my reading digitally, and that makes effective note-taking challenging for me. So, what I've been doing is highlighting thoughts and quotes that interest me, then reviewing those highlights after reading a section and transferring them to a digital notebook, hopefully in my own words. I think a sure sign of truly understanding a concept is when you can explain it in your own words.

    I really enjoyed this video. I underline, highlight and write notes in my books, and mark those with sticky notes. I haven't been using colour coding for different themes, but that was a very good idea that I need to try out. Thank you 😊

    Wow, can't believe that we > Gilmore Girls. Amazing. I don't usually annotate my books -- mainly because I used to be one of those people who think that so much as denting a book is high treason -- but have been meaning to get more into it for a long time. This was a really great resource to get some ideas on how it can enhance the reading experience! Most of my reading material comes from libraries so usual annotation doesn't really work for me, but I definitely want to try it with a few of the books I actually own. The bookmark is such a good idea! I'll definitely start doing it with some of my library books.

    You're so organized!!! I generally have a notebook on me at all times, so any time I want to write something down about a book I just jot it down there...

    Just watched those several months late and I love your system. I'm trying to get past my horror of writing in books, because there are so many things I need to remember that I can't! I really like your annotation bag, and he idea of creating bookmark notes for books you don't want to write in. I may have to borrow that idea.

  • @MollyBeeChannel

    I love little cases that a specific for something and yours is so pretty!!!
    I find that I sometimes use sticky notes, and other times I just take a quick video on my phone of my thoughts.

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting that you sometimes take a video of your thoughts! I guess it's because I'm usually better at writing my thoughts than speaking them but I'd never be able to do that! :P

    • @MollyBeeChannel
      @MollyBeeChannel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha XD I guess that, to me, it's kind of the same idea as the little blurbs you can put down when you update what page you're on on Goodreads. And I can add them into my book review (when I finally start doing them...)

    I can't wait to send one of my friends in particular over to check out your channel, particularly this video & the bullet journal. I like that you annotate in your books & you have a legend to your sticky tabs, I do this in my work as well, even with my highlighters. Again, I adore your content & your videos

    I take notes in the margin, highlight and write a small summary of each chapter on a post it. I do not want to take too much time away from the book. Love your channel.

      Thank you!! Yeah my reading habits tend to change all the time, nowadays I tend to sticky note as I go and write notes on things when I'm finished :)

  • @SeasonsReadings
    @SeasonsReadings 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loved this!! I always love hearing what each color of sticky tabs mean to each person! Everyone is so different! And I love that you made your own bookmarks to take notes. Way cool!! I don't really annotate my books. If there's a quote that I like, I'll take a picture of it with my phone or something, but that's about it haha I think I might start taking more notes as I'm reading though.

  • @GirlAboutLibrary

    Yay for Gilmore Girls! And omg those bookmarks for library books are ingenious and super handy! I usually just have a sticky note that I stick on the last page, and by the end of my reading the last page is totally covered in notes lol.

    I underline and take notes in the margins, I also have a special marker for quotes I love.
    I usually underline important plot- informations or a great literary devices or a good description of something.
    I take small notes in the margins, bigger thoughts go into my reading journal, so I can put them on a file on my Laptop to put it online on my blog at the end of the week :)

    • @LiterallyJasmine

  • @CamWolfeAuthor
    @CamWolfeAuthor 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not big on writing in books at all but I definitely understand why people would be. I do however tend to use sticky notes if I know I'll be discussing the book soon afterwards, otherwise I leave it to memory or write quotes in a journal haha

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh, like I said, I can't rely on my memory anymore! I'm already a grandma! 🙊 🙊 I guess it depends on whether you're planning on passing the book on or keeping it in your collection and making it your own to me. Knowing that I enjoyed these books and plan on keeping them makes me feel more comfortable with writing on them. I still only use HB pencil though! :P

    I am always fascinated by how people annotate books because I was never taught at school and people around me don't do it. I am still so bad at writing down notes for reviews and such. I do enjoy underlining interesting or memorable lines

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should say that cause I have been thinking of redoing this video to kind of explain the best ways to annotate books for school / literature studies :P this video is so rambly haha

  • @and_so.i_am
    @and_so.i_am 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the way you read, even though I would fee exhaustet if I put that much effort into every book I read. I do like to take notes, but do so in a seperate notebook. If I wouldn't I wasn't able to rember everything I'd like to mention in a review. There are periods when I like to use sticky notes. I use them for paragraphes that move me, that I find beautifully written or that seem important in terms of plot development or characterisation. But sometimes a book doesn't talk to me very loud and I might barely take notes at all.

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe me I don't put this much effort into every book I read! I'm reading Illuminae at the moment and haven't taken a single note! It just depends on the book, some books inspire more reflection than others :)

  • @itsabookishthing13
    @itsabookishthing13 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I applaud you for managing to tear yourself away from Gilmore Girls, I know that its easier said than done!!!
    I really want to start annotating my books, it seems like the perfect way to stay organized and keep track of everything important! I'm just such a lazy reader, stopping to take notes is something that I just CAN'T DOOOO

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      itsabookishthing13 I totally understand which is why I've found it easier to write in books as I read (or on sticky notes in books) .. I honestly I'm so admiring of people who can write comprehensive notes in a book journal, but if I tried to make myself do that I'd never write anything in it cause it's just that extra step with me. But this system works cause often I'll just tab something as I'm reading, or underline it if I have a pencil instead of tabs, and then I can write notes about it later when I'm in the mood and it doesn't interrupt the actual reading time. ✌🏼

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was a longer reply than I originally planned haha

    • @itsabookishthing13
      @itsabookishthing13 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great idea! I hadn't thought of it that way, that i can just tab and then later I'd write the notes. I'm definitely trying that out!!!

    This is a really strange question but, what shampoo and conditioner do you use??? I love your hair!

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha such a sweet question! I tend to use Organix, either the Coconut or the Vitamin E shampoo, and I very rarely use conditioner actually! If I use conditioner my hair goes verrrry greasy very quickly so I just use shampoo and then I use some coconut hair oil on the very ends of my hair when it's wet. 🙈🙈

    I love the idea but my question is-how often do you go back and read the annotations? Other then just for the initial review?

    • @LiterallyJasmine
      @LiterallyJasmine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The point of the annotations isn't really to go back and read them again, nor is it to use them for a review, the point of them is to keep me engaged and thinking about the book I'm reading about as I read it! I find that if I do this as I'm reading a book then I'll notice more details within the book and the writing than if I didn't do it :)
