    I didn't have a large drill bit to make a hole in a piece of wood. I found that a 2" pvc coupling is the perfect size to fit over the seal. Thank you for all your instructions, I got it done today. 👌👍

    Hey Joe, first of all this is about as honest and real as it gets (imo). Admitting a mistake is not easy so huge respect for using your error as a teaching tool for someone like me. I would not have known to chock the wheels either. It's impressive to me that most of your repairs or the majority it seems are in the dark... you are "no excuses Joe". Awesome. I never thought it would be so "easy" to remove the shaft and the seal. Good stuff to know. Honestly, the videos you've made are very helpful to me. We need more subs!

      Coyote, thank you so much for your continued support. It definitely crossed my mind to edit out the mistakes but my intentions have always been to help the next guy. What better way to learn than watch me mess things up. 😁

      I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was too. Probably why I didn't take my time and do it right the first time.
      The hard part for subs with a channel like this is that the info is so specific. I don't make entertainment type of content. Hopefully once the race car gets moving, more subs will come.

      @@szymon_og I have 134,726 as I'm typing this. I haven't had anything major such as engine or transmission. Once I hit around the 120k mark little things have happened. Nothing I wouldn't expect of any vehicle.

    Thank you for mentioning that because of lubing the shaft it may drip for a week or so. I picked up my truck from the dealership after they replaced the input seal and noticed leaking from the output shaft seal area. That freaked me out but now I feel better knowing what you said. Nice vid. Thanks 👍

    Thanks so much for this video. Like you I did a replacement already and mine leaked again. I'm sure it had to do with how I put the new seal in. I used your method with the wood and using a hole saw and it worked perfect and quick. Fingers crossed no leaks from the new one. Keep it safe!!

    Hey first off I appreciate the honest video, but I also wanted to state that the e brake will absolutely work even with the driveshaft disconnected. Its a cable that runs to the back tires and yes it is a drum, but has nothing to do with the driveshaft. Once that ebrake is engaged, if properly adjusted, will not allow the back tires to move. Yes you should still chock the tires but the Ebrake will 100% still work. Just food for thought.

    I would have dressed up that yoke shaft with a long thin strip of fine emory paper or scotchbrite pad so it's smooth. when the rear bounces up and down, that shaft slides in and out of the transmission. When the dust boot touches the rusty shaft, it acts like sandpaper against the rubber and wears it off.
    Funny how us with stick shift Rams always have a working ebrake compared to auto owners :)

    • @notamechanic153
      @notamechanic153  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would've been a good idea. I might do that next time I change fluid.

    • @DL101ca
      @DL101ca ปีที่แล้ว

      I always use my e brake so I don't damage the parking pawl on my steep driveway. It didn't prevent my ebrakes from rusting out and seizing. Had to take rear axles off to change all the damaged parts.

    Did you hear a howling noise whenever you would take your foot off the gas? ( Before you changed it; as in you heard the noise and then you knew you needed to fix it?)

    • @notamechanic153
      @notamechanic153  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, luckily I got under there just to change the fluid and noticed it was dripping. I must have caught it just in time because there was still a lot of fluid left.

    • @waydebaker33
      @waydebaker33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@notamechanic153 Nice. I only ask because my 94, 1500, made this noise and now I think this is the problem. My drive shaft after popped out completely, and my transfer case exploded. So I'm replacing that as well.

      So I got mine tore down, and it looks like probably my bearings went bad and cause my pinion teeth to shear. I opened her up and teeth fell out all over the place. I'm gonna re build it and see what happens.

    Why do you make lines ? Should lines like that be made when your even just doing ujoints?

    • @notamechanic153
      @notamechanic153  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just wanted the teeth to line up in the transfer case the way they came out. In this case I'm really not sure if it'd matter but I didn't want to risk anything. Plus it was easy enough to just put it back in how it came out.

    • @DL101ca
      @DL101ca ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to keep the shaft in balance and as true as possible if you have a quiet and wobble free driveline. Things tend to wear together from use and it might affect tolerances if doesn't go back the same way.

      This is as easy as it gets, you should try taking out broken exhaust bolts in the aluminum heads to see what a shitty job is.
