This is a question I get asked pretty often-- and there's no simple answer to it. So today, I'm going to layout some guide lines that'll help you find your perfect audition outfit!

i auditioned for the role of sandy in a production of grease a couple years ago and i wore a pale blue blouse with some jeans and ballet flats, and my hair in a ponytail with a ribbon tied around it. and i ended up getting the part!! i think my outfit def helped at least a small bit

My highschool musical director (At my school there was an acting director for just the fall plays and then a musical director for the spring musicals) made us wear business casual attire for our auditions because it was more "real world". I didn't believe her (she was a crap director anyway) and this video was far more informational and "real world" than anything she ever said. Thank you.

I found your point about character shoes interesting. As an equity actor (in Canada) I almost always wear my character shoes in my singing and acting calls for a musical because they're by far the most comfortable heels I own and allow me to be far more grounded. I only wear regular heels if my characters really don't match an outfit or there is no dance call!

Inspiring your outfit by the character is great but some people are way too obvious when there are auditioning like for example I auditioned for Wizard of Oz and half of the girls were wearing light blue flannels and their hair in two French braids it was borderline costumey and distracting

I just did an audition workshop yesterday and you where pretty spot on! We learned what to wear, sing, basic dance moves and how to pick a good monologue! Your advice for what to wear was almost EXACTLY what they said! Another awesome video for the THEATRE THURSDAY FAM!

Hey Katherine! I just discovered your channel and love your videos a lot; I'm super interested in all of theater but probably want to pursue something a bit more technical.
Though I'm sure you get lots of ideas, I had an idea for you: what do you think about doing a video about your predictions for theater in the next few years? Like a layperson's opinion of where it'll go? My big one: lots of bios in theater will have Matilda or School of Rock in it, kind of like Law and Order. (Did you see that one of the young Elsas in the Frozen cast and one of the young Annas were both in Matilda at one point?)

I was cast as Sheila in A Chorus Line and I wore a blue leotard and my tan t-strap 3 inch character shoes to the dance caII when everyone else was in leggings or booty shorts and a t-shirt/tank top and my director basically said I got the part because of how I was dressed. I ain't complaining!!
