      Great video. I have one question. What type ans size bolt is it the one you remove from the rack? Where you use an extension pipe. Mine fell off from my 01 toyota solara, I'm petty sure they are most the same engines.

    One of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. Plenty of light, great camera positioning, and clear English communication. Very impressive! Two questions; 1) why was the bumper removed, and 2) HOW LONG SHOULD THIS JOB TAKE (on jackstands)?

    Thanks for this excellent video! I'm a novice and currently working on installation on a '98 Camry. One recommendation thus far for the video is pointing out the easier alternative of using a ball joint separator to remove the tie rod ends from the spindles if they are really stuck in there. I pounded the crap out of one of the castle nuts before realizing I could just get this tool for less than $20 and do it in a couple of minutes.

    U forgot to say use a HEAVY AF hammer to release the tie rod....I had to use a jack to put upwards pressure and a sledgehammer to knock it loose

    Thanks for the video, I was able to do this repair. A couple things, the rack came with both bushings, so I didn't have to do the bushing change shown in the video. One of the main bolts would come out, I had to cut it out with a grinder - looked cross-threaded. Also, I ended up taking it out and putting it back in four times to get it right. So, yes, you can do this, and save hundreds of dollars, but it ain't easy.

    Hi I followed your video to a T on my Camry and everything went beautifully I appreciate the videos you guys make. I have a question though when I completely turn the wheel to left or right all the way the stops my Camry makes a squealing noise. there's a lot of misinformation on the internet and I'm kind of hoping you can clear this up what may be causing this noise! Is it a loose belt is my rack defective or is it a pump issue? Other than turning it to the complete left to right the rack is working beautifully!

    • @dylanstoll9681
      @dylanstoll9681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sounds like the belt for the power steering pump. To tension the belt you have to loosen the pivot and lockdown bolts on the pump, pry it away from the engine, and the re-tighten the lockdown bolt while you keep tension on the pump. You may also need to replace the belt, check it for cracks or wear.

  • @e.o.s.470
    @e.o.s.470 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for an excellent video. One thing that I didn't see(pertaining, at least to a 1992 Lexus ES300) is the fact you have to loosen the clamp around the black baffle of the steering column(inside passenger compartment) and then pop out the center cap that is around the steering column shaft and loosen the 12mm bolt holding the splinned shaft, push the shaft into the steering column coupling and then you can easily slide the connector onto the rack spline shaft. If you don't do it, it's nearly impossible to separate the connecting point from column to rack.

  • @justcn09
    @justcn09 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've run up against the two 19mm mounting bolts. I'm gonna have to get the car up higher so I can fit a 24 inch pipe on my socket wrench. Like he says, it can be done on jack stands. But a lift makes it 10 times easier.

    Just did a 1996. The steering intermediate shaft does not collapse enough to remove it, i dropped the back 2 sub frame bolts to make enough room to remove that shaft and on the 96 you will need this room to remove the 2 rack 19mm bolts. The setup is not the same on a 96 with a 4 cylinder as what you are working on

    If I did push in the inner tie, you said you'd have to center the rack intermediate shaft again to be centered, what would happen if I didn't? Could I take it to a alignment shop and them still fix it? Because I did and my steering wheel was way off. I told them I may of had the steering wheel off and rack shaft not centered and he said his computer would tell them all and could fix it. Great information how do you lock the steering wheel just by putting wheel to center and turn key off? or use a strap also?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe Briggs Thanks for watching! Just center the steering wheel like he shows you in the video and turn off the car. You do not need to us straps or anything like that, it should stay in place. 1aauto.com

      +Brian Leabo The alignment will still more than likely be off. You should install it in the same position as the factory one. 1aauto.com

    The tie rod bolt, where the castle nut goes, is just spinning when the castle nut gets to a certain point. How do you keep the tie rod bolt from spinning while getting the castle nut to 35 ft lb torque?

      Put a hydraulic jack under it and put a little pressure on it and give the outside of the casting a couple wraps with a hammer as you tighten

    Any additional suggestions for getting the steering shaft off the splines of the steering rack? Its hard in the video to see how exactly it comes off. I'm assuming the joint in the steering shaft folds and it should just move upward so its fully off the steering rack shaft. I've pulled at it with a pry bar from the top and hammered at the bottom of it with a pry bar. The video implies it should come off without too much force.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Breer Osky Thanks for your question! Once the pinch bolt is removed the steering shaft should move off the steering rack with a pry bar. Some penetrating oil may be needed to get the shaft off. Thank you!

    • @breerosky9204
      @breerosky9204 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1A Auto Parts Thanks for the prompt reply. Should the pinch bracket be oriented in a particular way or should the joint flex in a particular direction? I have this thing lubed up and loose. Have even jammed a screwdriver in the bracket slot to loosen it up. But can't lift it more than half way off the rack spindle. Next strategy is a longer pry bar for more leverage. Can't think of much else because the thing is obviously loose and free. Just can't get it to lift.

      Thanks! I figured I would go ahead and proceed with the rest of the disconnection steps. After I removed the frame bolts I was able to get enough wiggle in it to pull it off.
