Due to copyright issues, some parts of the Dances with Wolves section had to be removed at 1:35. Nothing too important but we'll list the removed facts here: - Kevin Costner starred in, directed and produced the film - It was difficult finding someone to finance the film and it exceeded its $15 million budget after which Costner had to spend $3 million from his own pocket to keep production going - A reason for going over budget was because of its scale. It took nearly 3 weeks to shoot the buffalo hunt scene in which there were 3,500 bison, 20 wranglers, 24 bareback Native American stunt riders and 150 extras. A link to this scene has been added to the description.
It's really incredible just how much happens every year when you really break it down. We're just living our lives one day at a time, and we often have boring days. Yet, relevant events are happening on a literal daily basis. It's wild to catalog these things.
I still remember clear as day when ninja turtles came out. I got to the theater and the line was past the building and the whole thing was packed up every single seat and I was not disappointed at all.
This is great. We need more video series like this. Exploring film history is so fascinating, because it informs me so much and connects me to the culture and history around me. I actually have wanted to do my own series of exploring movies of the 80's. I just haven't gotten the writing and best feel for it yet. I forgot how many classics were released in 1990 alone! Dances with Wolves is one of my favorites. It's in my top 3. I normally don't care for the western genre, but DWW is so personal and the acting and story is so great. It deserved the awards it got. And kudos to Costner for it being his first time directing! I believe he's currently directing another western movie at this time.
Unbelievably underrated: 1971 1971: The French Connection, The Last Picture Show, A Clockwork Orange, Harold and Maude, Straw Dogs, Fiddler on the Roof, Klute, Sunday bloody Sunday
It's mind blowing to think how far ago 1990 was, and how many iconic movies were released back then. Makes me wonder what are the movies/tv-streaming series people will be talking about 30 years from now? And what will be hold as a classic.

1990 was the best year for movies ever. So many (Almost) Cult Classics. Ski Patrol, Blind Fury, Side Out, Quick Change, My Blue Heaven, and two of my all time favorites Men At Work and Taking Care of Business.
Cool video!! A lot of coming-of-age teen comedies, were made before 1990, and after; and a lot of them are classics!! However; the first ever teen comedy with an all Black cast, was released in 1990! It also spawned 3 sequils & a recent reboot!! That movie is House Party!! How did that not make this list?? 🤔
You know that whole ‘we’re an American band’ saying? Goodfellas is an American movie. To me it defines the American experience. I’m not Italian or have any crime ties at all. I just think it encompasses the American dream so well.
Wasn't the whole reason Sophia Coppola did Godfather 3 was because Winona Ryder dropped out at the last minute and Francis just needed someone who'd say yes for whatever pay?
I think home alone was the first and only movie I saw in the theatres that year when it came out. I was like a month before my 5th birthday and a few months after leaving my homeland living in south jersey before moving to north jersey the following summer
Good God what happen to Hollywood? I'm sure there's 20 more comments just like this one but one single year gave us that many iconic, incredible films. Now we're lucky to get one every five years. I generally hate it when anyone says "things used to be better" but in this case I can't see how you don't say that. The best films were also one offs, which is far different from what we get now with the best films like Joker and Top Gun being sequels or in the case of Joker continuations of existing IPs that draw heavy "inspiration" from older movies. If I had to guess why the precipitous drop in quality I'd guess when the films of 1990 were being made the primary thought was "I want to make the most entertaining, best piece of art I can make", while when films get made now the primary thought is "how can I make a clear politcal statement while pissing off all the people I think are evil".
The year I was born and it's awesome that Goodfellas, one of my top 20 movies and my #2 of the decade behind Pulp Fiction, came out that year. Although, I still technically wasn't born yet as it came out in September and I was born on November. I was only a fetus.
The fact we talk about oscar snubs to me proves the Oscar's don't matter because that means the film is more popular and acclaimed despite not winning the Oscar.
💥💥You could've touched more on the movie misery and how great that movie was and how great Kathy Bates and James caan was. You kinda just glossed over that movie without touching on it.
I still love the Simpsons and while the vieweship declines, the people still watching are die hard fans. In my country, the simpsons are aired every day, and I think the newest season is pretty good so far

Goodfellas was not short by any means, and I would say has left a much larger cultural imprint than Dances With Wolves.
I still remember clear as day when ninja turtles came out. I got to the theater and the line was past the building and the whole thing was packed up every single seat and I was not disappointed at all.
Thank you for making me feel old.
I watched the TV release of Dances with Wolfs when I was a kid.
Four days. An hour of film a day.
Recently re-watched and it still holds up 👌
Goodfellas is a flawless movie. And it's influence is far, far reaching. Case closed.
Rewatched it last weekend and every scene in the film is so enjoyable!
The first movie in America

Super cool series, wish to see more of this👌👌
The craziest fact is that the federal minimum wage is still $7.25 in 2023.
The beginning of the greatest decade!!!!
right after a better decade, at least as far as music goes
I don’t even leave comments on videos but I just wanted to pop in and say I love this video and I’m very excited to see more of these.

Goodfellas should’ve won best picture and best director. Everyone remembers this film not a Kevin Costner film 🥴
Agree. Goodfellas is a far far superior movie
During the 90s I couldn't wait for the 2000s, now I want to go back to the 90s...

You forgot Tremors.
1990 was the best year for movies ever. So many (Almost) Cult Classics. Ski Patrol, Blind Fury, Side Out, Quick Change, My Blue Heaven, and two of my all time favorites Men At Work and Taking Care of Business.

Wasn't matte painting also used in star wars? How'd it start in 1990?
W video idea and W execution 👏👏👏

I think this was the first year to have ten films make $200 million at the worldwide box office.
Ahhhh 1990....the year I graduated from high school...
Excellent!!
For the record Sofia Coppola was a last minute replacement for the Godfather part III
One of the very best horror films of all time was released that year: Jacob’s Ladder
Dance with the wolves pushed envelopes?????? 😂😂Lol 😂😂. WTF !!!!???
That is ridiculous!
No Beverly hills 90210 in television section ?

Please cover the same eras but with MUSIC as a whole🥺

Um...$4.22 in 1990 is equal to $9.81 in 2023 dollars. Why do people always forget to adjust for inflation in these comparisons?!
Godfellas is cinematic history. The Oscar’s are just overrated
The Searchers is infinitely better than Dances with Wolves.
TMNT is Life
Goodfellas was my winner that year it was snubbed
Dude that Hitler show sounds awesome!!
I like how even then Hollywood had a hard on for President Trump
Goodfellas isn't another crime flick that sentiment is deadass wrong
The cartoons were first, dude.
Why do you have Tucker Carlson's accent?
Misery ❤
My birthyear
