  • The Lion King, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, True Lies and Speed. These are just some of the films from 1994 that make it such an important year for the medium. This was one of the best years for film, a very good year for Disney at the box office and had some important pop culture events such as OJ Simpson's slow car chase and the Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan incident.
Welcome to A Year In Film History, a series where we’re going year by year and take a look at all of the interesting, controversial and sometimes whacky things that happened in the film industry. In this video we'll be focusing on 1994 that had some of the most iconic films ever made, CGI being used in unexpected ways and the creation of Dreamworks.

Don’t forget that Jim Carrey starred in three films that year: The Mask, Ace Ventura and of course Dumb and Dumber

I'm surprised you didn't discuss Jim Carrey. 1994 is the year that made Jim Carrey a household name with Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb & Dumber. 1994 was the year he became a superstar instead of just the guy from "In Living Color."
And, personally, I love "Pulp Fiction," but "The Shawshank Redemption" was my pick for Best Picture. "Forrest Gump"? Not so much.

true, and also though i think forest gump was good for the time it was made, i don't think its greatness holds up quite the same as pulp fiction or some other films that year

I'm just like the movies in this video: made in '93, released in '94. But all jokes aside what a year it was for moviegoers. One of the best years of cimema for sure! Forrest Gump was my favorite movie as a kid, then I was amazed by Shawshank but finally as I grew older Pulp Fiction became my favorite. We had the movie on VHS and spent years gazing its cover until my parents finally let me to watch it... Thanks for the excellent video, this is my favorite YT series right now. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers!

Thank you so much for this video. It was excellent! 1994 was a great year for me. I graduated hight school and started acting in plays. Along with 1939, 1967, 1976, 1999, and 2007, it is regarded as one of the best years for movies. I love the fact that you mentioned STARGATE. STARGATE'S impact is underrated. It brought sci-fi back to respectability and prestige and out of the B-Movie arena.

I really enjoy watching your videos, but I do feel like you missed something. Interview with a Vampire came out this year and had quite a big pop culture influence. The Lost Boys, Bram Stoker's Dracula, then Interview with a Vampire. These three movies had a big influence on vampires in horror movies and the Goth scene, and Interview is the biggest box office hit of the three.

As much as Tarantino is my favorite director (evenn tought Pulp Ficton ain't my favorite movie of his) and Forrest Gump has that heartwelmig feeling (the ultimate Boomer's wet dream) Shawshank Redemption should have been nominated the picture of the year. Truly one of the greats of all time.

Personally not a fan of Disney's live-action remakes here, but I will say the '94 jungle book is the best one, IMHO. It stands on its own as an enjoyable action/adventure film with a solid plot that just wasn't a frame-by-frame remake of the original. Thanks for drawing attention to it!
I also enjoy Wolf, which also came out that year.

I think if Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption came all out in different years, they all would've scooped up best picture awards. And i would also make the suggestion that The Lion King could've also be easily the second animated to be nominated for best pic. 1994 is still my favorite movie year of all time, which is quite the achievement because it was also the year my most hated movie of all time came out, with the neverending story 3. :P

My favourite movie of 1994 hands down was Dumb and Dumber. Loved it even more as the years went on with some memorable jokes especially in the dialogue.
    -Cop: "Pull over!"
-Harry: "No, it's a cardigan, but thanks for noticing."
    -Lloyd: "Yeah, killer boots man."
-Harry: "I expected the Rocky Mountains to be rockier than this."
-Lloyd: "I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver is full of s*** man"...(Followed by one of the funniest realisation scenes in cinema history in my opinion)

what was your criteria for compiling the films in your year lists. is it based on box office, popularity, or north american? i would love to see a streamlined list of the movies that came out during years. but i always get so much filler of every single thing that came out that year.

    • @FilmStack
      @FilmStack  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

We try to find the most significant films that came out that year, box office and popularity are a big part of this but more so which films stood the test of time and remain an important part of film history. There are way more films we would’ve wanted to include in the video but at some point we had to draw a line. As for where to see a streamlined list, for older years I find searching in Letterboxd by year is a good way to give you a snapshot of a particular year.

Pulp Fiction? What? Nah, people are arguing for Shawshank Redemption to win over Forrest Gump, not Pulp Fiction. At least, that is usually the discussion I hear. That being said, I still think Forrest Gump is the deserving winner. Also, the 1994's Jungle Book is NOT a Disney Adaptation. It has nothing to do with the Disney version, it's an adaptation of the book.

Pulp fiction should’ve won best picture, best supporting actor (Samuel Jackson) and best director. 😅. Pulp fiction has so many quotes and scenes that are iconic. Nobody cares much about Forrest Gump other than the special effects in the film. and people quote Samuel Jackson lines in pulp fiction. No one remembers that the old man of Ed wood won 🥴

1994 The year I Graduated High School, I'll NEVER Forgive The NEWS for Spoiling Mufasa's Death scene in 1994 when The Lion King was still in Theaters, Just Shut up about that, It's a DISNEY Film, and there's USUALLY at least 1 Dead Parent in a Disney Film. And Mufasa's Death Scene for me was Meh, Sure it's a sad scene, but I knew it was Coming. The Lion King was Hamlet with Lions. Yeah I never saw Forrest Gump, or Pulp Fiction, give the award to The Shadow. The right touch of Grit, with a Batman Type Character. Yeah I found out about the deaths of Mufasa and John Candy at The same time. What? I said that I wasn't gonna forgive the News for Spoiling Mufasa's Death Scene, It should've been more than Meh, but because it was Spoiled, I was cheated out of My tears. It's why I will NEVER watch Old Yeller, I know the Dog Dies. You Didn't Mention The Santa Clause. Scott Calvin: So we go down this road and we hit I 94.
