    This was the first Swiss watch I ever owned also and I have never been able to replicate the feeling I got when first wearing it ,even with much more expensive pieces.

    Also my first Swiss piece. I had been looking at it for a couple years as well as a Hamilton. I was on vacation in NYC for the first time and randomly came across a Tissot store in the basement of One World Trade Center. Saw it and immediately loved it (in my state there's no way to try one of these on). On the flight back a man sitting next to me complimented the watch, showing me his Rolex Submariner, and said his first watch was also a Tissot.

    It was a great review, Teddy! The Visodate was my first swiss watch too, I think it is the best entry level timepiece that you can get from your money: beautiful, unique design, reliable movement, and heritage. It will always remain the most beloved piece of my collection.

  • @paulc9588
    @paulc9588 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice watches, I have the black dial version. My only issues are:
    1) Too large for a heritage dress watch and should be 38mm. I just about get away with it with my skinny ~6 1/2 inch wrist but wish the Visodate were smaller.
    2) Lots of reflections which can make reading the time difficult on the black dial version.
    3) I also have the Heritage Sovereign. It gets relatively little attention but is actually a nicer watch overall IMHO. Seems a better fit despite also being 40mm and the domed crystal is just perfect, although it will of course scratch more easily.

    I do like the look of this watch on the Milanese bracelet. Looks slightly more casual and sporty and therefore more of an everyday piece.

    • @michaelriera6277
      @michaelriera6277 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have it on the Milanese in white dial. It not only chances the look but the feel as well. The Milanese is very well made and give the watch a more robust feel.

    • @nkonig1
      @nkonig1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelriera6277 I tried it on a few months back. I was wearing the Sarb035 at the time and did a quick comparison. I probably prefer the smaller size and mix of brush and polish finished case over the larger, entirely high polished case of the Visodate. I also didn’t like the dial in person, way more silvery in appearance. If I didn’t already own the Sarb035 then I’d be happy owning the Visodate. I just don’t see the need for both.

    This Visodate has a kettle shape and measures 37 mm on the top. It wears smaller than the size suggests. I own one with a silver dial on a Milanese strap which gives it a great retro look.

    • @ericgrace9995
      @ericgrace9995 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep...the case tapers so it has 2 diameters !

  • @ericgrace9995
    @ericgrace9995 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's not a " true " 40 mm case. It's 40 at its base but tapers to 38 mm at the crystal.
    It has visibility/ reflective problems with the black/ blue versions that you don't have with the silver dial.
    I'd change ( did change) the strap, but it's a really attractive watch and great value.

    I recall growing up in Hong Kong watching this watch being advertised on my parents black and white TV . This watch is indeed very very nice. It feels good on the wrist too, as i had the chance to try one on at our local watchmaker.

    A great review Teddy! Tissot was also my real toe in the water on Swiss watches of names that people have heard of. I have an older gold colour Visodate that I picked up on a good discount. My example has the white-silver dial and it is very easy to read, oddly much easier to read than another Tissot that has a black dial with silver hands and markers but a flat crystal. It just seems to be able to cope with reflections so much better. I have to agree with you one the the movement as well from my collection at least the work horse ETA movement would be my preference, servicing, regulating etc can be done by any watch maker, even Tissot pricing is reasonable. From my experience unless you really need the extra power reserve of the Powermatic 80 I'd go for the ETA 2824 or 2836 movements and for me the higher beat rate gives the smoother sweep second hand that I prefer.

    I really like the styling of this watch. The day complication might be a little excessive as a date is already pushing it for a dress-style watch. Every few months I see one, get excited about the looks and start researching. Inevitably I see the stubby hands and that kills it. It's like Tissot/Swatch went lazy and used hands from a 36mm in this 40mm watch. Maybe there was a mix up at the factory and there are some Longines Conquest Heritage watches with way too long hands? haha

    Hi. I'm a subscriber to your channel and i do enjoy it. I just want to share something with you and your subscribers and viewers. I was watching an ancient history vlog on the Sumerians and everyone was curious about the 'bags' that these ancient people were holding. What they do not notice are the 'wrist watches' that these ancient people seem to be wearing on their wrists...round, with details on the face of the items, and strapped to their wrists. Much like the way we wear wrist watches today. So maybe, wrist watches go a long, long way back in ancient history.

    Thinking of either getting a Tissot Visodate or a Hamilton Jazzmaster.

      Same. After this review, I think I’m going for this exact Tissot. I usually don;t go for light colored dials, but it’s just a beautiful piece and way more readable than the versions with darker dials.

    I am looking for a couple of swiss made mechanical watches. Will there be any chance comparing series of watches with COCS (chronometer certified) movements from the entry to mid-range?

    what is the difference between this one and the powermatic 80 version for £20 more?

    • @patrickcannady2066
      @patrickcannady2066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Powermatic 80 has a slower beating movement at 21600bph which in combination with a beefier mainspring gives it an 80hr power reserve vs the Visodate's 38hrs. Both watches are very good looking, high performing, and inexpensive.

    Why oh why are the lugs so long?! It's the only thing holding me back from purchasing. Could be a near-perfect watch with a better lug design.

    The code isnt working. It says not valid for items in cart.. even when the Visodate is in cart.

    Great video, I think the Hamilton Jazz Master offers a lot more for not much more money

    The hour and minute hands are too short. On a certain angle the minute and hour hands' length looks the same which is confusing to see the time.

    Only downside is original strap. It's low quality and the clamp stucks often

    Eh. I think the Max Bill has both more character as well as 38mm for a dress watch for only about $200 more.

    Question, the small metal frame that surrounds the date has fallen out and I have no idea how you get into the watch to gain access. Doesn’t seem to be any pry holes or access points.
