Hi. I agree that Cherry Audio can do no wrong at the moment as far as I am concerned . Very Afordable. I have a few and need more. I am still exploring Mercury 6 (and its sister Mercury 4). I run Bitwig as my DAW so can easily supplement or compensate for any deficiencies in the sound of any VSTs but Cherry Audio provides so many options/functions/bells/ whistles that I use a minimum. I heard the original Jupiters described as a workhorse and I think thats pretty accurate. Lots of fun though.
It's a good sounding VST, sadly they messed up the filter, because it's not a very conventional setup the Jupiter-6 has got. You may see online one of two things, either small brained haters who say the JP-6 is a cold buzzy mess with unhinged bass-lacking resonance, or a bunch of techno producers and such that geek out about the JP-6 filter and even have been making eurorack versions of it. From my point of view, it isn’t a harsh, wild, untamed resonance like you’ll most likely read online, it is a space-y, lush, well… “resonant” sound, produced as a by-product of the implementation of the state-variable filter. Basically, each half of the 4-pole filter has its own feedback loop (so kind of independent 2-pole filters in series), meaning the resonance bump is twice as precise (“picky” would be the more appropriate term). It is surprisingly excellent at pulling out the harmonics and nothing else, resulting in any filter play sounding like magic, harmonics going all over the place, and it’s a marvel to plug a reverb or delay to those types of sounds. The Jupiter-6, which normally stays very close to sounding like a JP-8, has a sound of its own when you bring out resonance. When you listen to the filter on the Mercury-6, it sounds normal, it sounds well-behaved and just what you'd expect from a Jupiter-8. With the resonance setting on max, a filter sweep will produce a sine wave descending in pitch, well that's not what happens on the Jupiter-6, you will hear much more clearly the harmonic series of the input signal without anything in between the frequencies, and once you hit the frequency of the harmonics the amplitude gets noticeably higher (so the supposed "lack of bass" is in reality a lack of everything because it's by design that the more resonance you have the lower the input's amplitude will be going into the filter, to stop it from saturating)

Can you make nice trance plucks with Mercury - 6 ?
I'm sure you can, but they'll have something quite vintage to it, I suppose!

Wow, I'm seriously impressed with your expert look at this filter. Good to know it all, thanks!
