Eating “The Feast” at Sean Brock’s Audrey. Best Restaurant in Nashville?

- I eat at and review chef Sean Brock’s flagship restaurant, Audrey in Nashville. Brock has emerged as one of the best and most important chefs of the south specializing in both Southern and Appalachian cuisine. He’s made appearances on shows such as “Mind of a Chef” and Netflix’s “Chef’s Table.” Audrey is a fine dining restaurant in the McFerrin Park neighborhood of Nashville. I eat the multi-course, tasting menu-like, “The Feast.”

They weren't kidding when they called it a feast! Kudos to you for polishing your plates so well.
Thank you! That definitely was a feast!
@@Jamesnu I know! you said the same words in your video.
Monday with out a James review would make a sad week love every you do thank you
Thank you so much!!!
I work in Nashville and have dined at Audrey everal times and the food and hospitality never dissapoints. I just dined at June and it takes the experience to another level altogether. Astaoundoing is all I can say. Get there if you can !
Nice! Indeed! I would really like to try June sometime as well!
I live in Nashville and have eaten at every current Sean Brock restaurant and if I’m being honest, the food is somewhat hit or miss. That said, it’s definitely more hit than miss and I probably have some bias because we have constant access to great Appalachian food here and especially in East TN at BlackBerry Farm.
But, the aesthetics and service at Audrey and June are always next level. Sean not only has a talent for food but his space conceptualization is phenomenal. Proud to have him call our fine city home.
Nice! I would love to visit more of his restaurants. He's got such a great cooking style.
@@Jamesnu His crust burger at Joyland is awesome. Suggest it highly. Also, the next time you're in Nashville, you have to go to Locust. It's the best restaurant in the entire southeast. Run by a former Noma chef and it's INSANELY good.
I know Sean Brock. I lived in Charleston for 20 years. He was the chef at McCrady’s best steak house I was ever at, then went on to open Husk on Queen Street next to 82 Queen, a sort of commander's place type place, a grand dame. Back to Sean: I spent some time with him on his pig farm on Johns Island. He was from Mars.
He seems like a really interesting guy!
Audrey looks like a feast for the senses. Simply looks incredible. Thanks James!
Thanks for watching! It really was a special meal!
What an amazing looking meal & review! Thanks, James!
Thanks for watching!
Hi James! Man oh man I felt like a shark with its eyes rolling back every time you took a bite.So happy you had this experience. Thanks for sharing this with the world 💫
Thanks for watching! Yeah, there were a lot of great food moments during that meal.
That entire meal looked incredible! I'm especially intrigued by the ham fat in the salad. Also, congrats on 40K subscribers!! 🎊
Thank you! Yeah, that ham fat just added a nice richness to the salad. I really enjoyed it!
Everything looks delicious, with some inventive flavor combinations. Putting this on my list of “Places I want to eat.”
It's definitely a restaurant worth going to.
Wow, the food looks fabulous. Love the way they presented it. Thank you for taking us.
Thanks for watching!
Having a bit of a crap day today, however watching your new video has (as always) given me a a bit of light and the end of the day. Keep up the great work James 👍
Thank you! I hope things improve!
Finally. 40K subs. Congratulations ❤❤❤
Thank you!
YUMMY!!!
Safe Journey!
Have a GREAT DAY!!!
Thanks for watching!
When they brought out the cobbler, I thought “What-no ice cream?!” And then you showed the ice cream. I agree, one scoop wasn’t nearly enough. 😁
Indeed!
What a great adventure everything looked wonderful love your videos have a great weekend ❤️
@@lorifreeman1746 Thank you! It was a great dinner!
Love your chill vids and Midwestern accent, bro!
Thank you!
Great video as always, thx for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
The bread looks delicious and that was just the start of your dinner!
Indeed! It was a great start for sure!
The “vegetarian tears” took me out. I love your wit James, great review. I’m a subscriber for life 😘
Thank you! I really appreciate the support!
James you should put together an eating tour in NYC sometime. I'd fly in!
That could be fun.
FIRST. Love the videos James…can’t wait til you hit some big Millestones.
Thank you so much!
Looks amazing!!!
Love your food reviews 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
Hi James, you are definitely in the top 1% of people with the best, healthiest metabolism in the world ! Another wonderful review, my friend. That's one restaurant I would've loved to experience if my travelling days weren't over. Thank you for the great photography. It truly captures the atmosphere and remarkable food of this celebrated restaurant. All the best !
Thank you so much! Yeah, I've definitely been blessed with a good metabolism. I'm very thankful for it!
Magical, now there's an adjective I haven't heard you use before.
Yeah, but that was a special dish indeed!
Seems like a great restaurant!
The food looks impressive and delicious. Keep up the good work and congratulation's on the 40k subs.
Thank you so much! Yeah, that was a great restaurant and experience!
Neuman's Only Ham Fat Salad Dressing. I would patent that. 😂. That ham was fire.
Haha! Yeah, that ham was excellent!
That dinner looked amazing, James!! Really outstanding southern food. Great price, too!
Indeed! It was great food for good value.
Your meal here looked fabulous, by that look on your face with the lamb belly said it all, Iam very intrigued by blue corn meal cornbread, WoW!
It all looks amazing.
The Apple Cobbler looked wonderful.
So glad you enjoyed a delicious, very colorful and unique feast.
😋👏
Thank you! Yeah, I liked a lot of the dishes, but the lamb really was special!
Looked amazing! I have to check it out. You are 300% right about the ice cream. I bet if you asked for more, they would have brought it
Yeah, I probably should've asked for more, but at the same time, I was getting pretty full.
@@Jamesnu well if you managed to get that far, what’s one more bite 🤷♂️
Yum. That looked varied, inventive and delicious.
Indeed! I really enjoyed it!
I have been waiting for this one to drop. As much as I love Husk, you made the right choice. I have been to Audrey twice and June once. I feel like the standout dishes were the cornbread and grits. They are so simple, but you cannot understand how good they can be until you have had them there. I would highly recommend you come back to Nashville and experience June. It is the "higher end" tasting menu experience.
I know what you mean about the cornbread and grits. They don't sound like the most exciting dishes, but to me, they were so perfect! Yeah, I would really enjoy trying June in the future.
towards the end of each and every single one of your videos I start to get goosebumps, that's how much i'm obsessed with you. take me out next time you have dinner
I appreciate the support!
That food looks banging my friend, thanks for another video 😊
It was delicious! Thanks for watching!
Wow, thanks for this review! I love fine dining but am often slightly annoyed the the pretencious atmosphere and small portions. Audrey looks so satisfying.
Thanks for watching! I know what you mean. Audrey, thankfully, didn't have those characteristics.
We were just at June last weekend! Amazing experience
Nice!
Audrey definitely looks like a restaurant I would love to try. Another solid review Andrew, Thank you! 👍❤️
Bet the waiter was surprised how much room you have on reserve, lol.
Haha! Thank you! I surprised myself with how much food I ate, especially after that lunch.
That cobbler looked so good. I have to agree with you on the fine dining tasting menu. They always leave my wallet lighter and my belly screaming for more. Charlie Trotter's the king of Chicago fine dining places at one time left me so hungry it was sad. It's good to hear they lowered the price to $75. This is one smart owner. The building itself looked awesome too. I love the open kitchen look. Congrats on 40K and as always, Cheers James.
Thank you so much! Yeah, that's one of the worst parts of a lot of these fine dining tasting menus. I'm always wanting more. It was refreshing going to a restaurant like this. It left me very satisfied. Cheers!
I think Alinea is the height of Chicago fine dining
@@randyschwaggins Randy, I've been out of the Chicago (in town) dining scene for over a decade. I think Trotter's closed more than a decade ago now. I know a few friends who still go out to all the fancy scmancy places on the regular. From what they tell me Chicago is currently overloaded with more world class restaurants than at any time in the past. Once I retired, I stopped going into the city. Honestly, as beautiful as The Chi is, i don't miss it. I'm a country bot surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of corn and beans. I spent my entire career on The Chicago Board of Trade and The CBOE, so I was in the city every day for decades. I love it, but I'm done with it. A Girl and a Goat gets talked up big by my buds.
Glad you enjoyed it. You have to love that country vegan food has pork and tallow. Thanks for a great review
Haha! Yeah! Thanks for watching!
I'm not fancy enough to eat apples twice in one meal. Not my deal, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fair enough and thank you! At least the apples were prepared differently between the two dishes.
Another great vid, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
James: If I'm in Nashville I will definitely go for "The Feast"! Great stop😅😅😅
It's definitely worth a stop!
Audrey is a great restaurant, the prices are reasonable as well. Sean Brock is a genius I’ve had the fortune of meeting him several times.
Nice! I was kind of hoping that he would be there when I went. Maybe next time.
Looks delicious, in the south we pronounce Cherokee ,Chair-O-key, not trying to call you out but I'm a tribal member and want to educate you. Love your reviews.
Thank you and thanks for the info! I really appreciate it!
Wow, beautiful dinner and so cheap. I felt for you on the food coma induced double-fried main course, it happens.
Yeah, having two fried dishes wasn't the best move, but at least they were pretty tasty.
Looks amazing, great value too.
Agreed!
Wow, that looks so good:)
It was!
Wow! That’s quite an endorsement for Audrey’s.
It's an amazing restaurant!
babe wake up james dropped a new epic video
Thanks for watching!
OMG! Sean has really upped his game with this menu! I have been following him ever since his appearence on Anthony Bourdain's Waffle House episode. Great vlog James!
Thank you! I remember that episode. It was a good one!
Seems like a pretty reasonable price for such a nice meal!
Indeed! I thought that it was good value!
Very interesting. I was just in rural Tennessee which is very different from Nashville
Fewer buildings, I imagine
Nice! I would definitely like to see more of the state one day.
That looks more like a crumble than a cobbler to me, but it appears that is another difference between UK and US usage - a cobbler over here has scone-like topping, often in individual circles that partly join together during cooking. Looked nice whatever it was called though! There are a couple of appealing mushroom dishes on the a la carte menu (to spare us vegetarians any more tears), one with morels, the other with lion's mane - the morels are fried, but the lion's mane isn't, maybe that would have been a good alternative main course. Lion's mane is tasty, very interestingly textured and catching on a bit.
Yeah, even though I love meat. The vegetarian options sounded delicious and I love mushrooms, especially morels.
@@Jamesnu yeah, I love morels too - I've had them paired with asparagus and an umami sauce (often with parmesan) at a number of starred places. Fantastic dish.
I don’t have that much experience with Nashville but from my limited experiences I really liked it to the point that I think it might actually be the best food city in the South in the category of western style foods
Even better than Petersburg, VA?
Yeah, from my trip, I was really impressed with the richness of the city's culinary scene.
Now this looks like a Kickass restaurant!! River rafting the Colorado river next week.....should be fun food also! Timmy C Arizona p.s. Don't Get Married! 😅
Haha! Yeah, that was a great place!
love the review. what do you do for work that allows you to travel and eat so well? keep up the content please. love it. if you make it to Austin again try Olamaie
Thank you and thanks for the recommendation! I'm a photographer, but TH-cam these days is kind of like a second job for me, but a very fun one!
NOW, That's a recovery meal!
A great recovery meal indeed!
@@Jamesnu I usually eat after a race, but not like that!
@@NoahEats Haha!
Always saving the best for later.👍👍 What an amazing meal.
A feast with a lot of food is never a problem for you James. Isn’t Memphis where you ran the Marathon?
Haha! Yeah, I can eat! I actually ran the marathon in Nashville, but I would love to visit Memphis sometime.
You could go walking in Memphis.
@@JamesnuOops! At least I got the state right.
The catfish looked so crispy.
Yep, the texture was great!
Could set the clock by you. Just getting stuck into this. Happy July btw.
Happy July!
Love the content - watching from London, UK. What camera and equipment do you use, James?
Thank you! For this video, I was using the Canon EOS M6 Mark II.
@@Jamesnu Great, thanks!
Where's the chicken and dumpling? Was excited to see that.
I believe that was only a choice for a main course and I went with the catfish.
Ah. I thought it was chicken and dumpling and a choice of either the pork or the catfish. In any case, that meal looked incredible and so worth what you paid for it!
Love it!! I want you to go 75 main in the Hamptons… Let me know what you think. ❤
Thank you and thanks for the recommendation!
That’s alot of food!
Indeed!
hey aren't you supposed to get the chicken and dumplings too? it was catfish or steak, then okra or potatoes. That cobbler looked great too. what a meal!
It was definitely a great meal! I'm pretty sure that the chicken and dumplings were actually a third choice for a main course.
@@Jamesnu i thought you get 3 dishes per wave?
@@chubbs500 I think it was just for the first two waves.
What a bargain!
Indeed.
What a deal with that final bill!
I thought it was good value for the quantity and quality of the food.
@@Jamesnu As you said in the video. Yep!
Bro's metabolism🗿🗿🗿
I definitely got lucky with that.
The first 'wave' looked delicious but the portions went from enormous to ridiculous. Especially that lamb. Overall it sounds like you were satisfied with the meal. The dessert looked nice but no way was it enough for 2.
I was very satisfied! The dessert was much larger than it looked. I was pretty stuffed after this meal.
$155 for all of that! That would be a $300 meal in NYC....
Exactly.
Take me to your leader
Haha!
I just went to a comedy dinner club and shared a giant brownie with my 21 year old son. We both ate most of the brownie and it came with a tiny bowl of vanilla bean ice cream. The server was ansent mkst of the time we were there so we couldn't get more from her, so I asked another server and played it off like wwe never got our ice cream. BUT WHEN i told him our table number, poof ther server finally appeared. She was like 'I brought you the ice cream....whatchoo mean you dinnit gets it?' So I told her we got it, but the lady in front of us flipped he weave into it. Since we were all, packed like sardines, that made sense so she wemt and got another thung of ice cream for me to take back to the table. Then when the manager came aroumd, I commented on the pathetic amount of ice cream and then that I had to go get more. They wrote it all off, our bill was 10 bucks for 2 drinks.
Haha! Nice!
Noice...
Thanks for watching!
Note many people like ham
True. The a la carte menu does at least have some good variety.
Audrey was also the name of Hank Williams’ ex-wife (and mother of Hank Williams, Jr.) whose cheating ways gave birth to his huge hit: ‘Your Cheating Heart’.
So, in Nashville, it gives it an extra cachet.
That's interesting. I didn't know that.
