Arguably Metalcore as a genre was started by Shai Hulud back in the day. It's crazy to hear what people call metalcore these days- honestly most of it would fall in the area of Deathcore or Djent. Metalcore was literally the marriage of, get this...metal and hardcore. Not the Hatebreed brand of "hardcore"- actual hardcore, which was very aggressive punk that bordered on metal.
Shai Hulud did it perfectly. Protest the Hero does it progressively. Sikth, I wouldn't even put in that category, they are something else entirely.
"actual hardcore" yeah there heavier punk bands that birthed it or inspired hardcore to bands of sick of it all.. hatebreed is still a hardcore band..not my favorite but them, and terror, agnostic all fall in the same category of hardcore. people get so weird with their genres that they think they determine whats on the list, and its hilarious.
