To you who critizise it, I dare you to do a better job..... Staying so close to the original not only shows their respect for the original but also that they very skilled musicians. I can only say "I wish I were there". I must have been absolutely magic.
Just "re-visited" the video again, as so many times before, this past month. I am blown away everytime and in total awe of Umphreys Mcgee`s stunning performance. I am and have always been a massive Pink Floyd fan. Music was born in 1962 when Pink Floyd was formed, in my opinion :) :D. Since Pink Floyd is no more, the only way to get a taste of the magic is to seek out concerts with some of the many brilliant coverbands around. I know Umprey's McGee isn't a Pink Floyd cover Band as such, but this version of "S O Y C D", is one of the best if not the best cover of this song I ever had the pleasure to listen to. An european tour, including Denmark is needed !!!! I would go to the concert, just to hear this song and getting all the other tunes on their set-list, performed equally brilliant, as a bonus.
Nice comment. They seem to have good technique, but that's only one part of music. You have to got a "feeling" (can't find a better word) for it and put your soul into music. One of my favorites is Mike Oldfield. Watch his early Live concerts. He plays some tunes wrong, there are technically better players than him, but still I wish I had the chance to experience it live. I can feel him even through the video. It just flows out of him and that's for example what Pink Floyd also delivers.

I saw these guys in 90s in Milwaukee and they had an amazing show!! I also experienced pink floyd at the milwauke county stadium in the mid 80s life was the best!! Its a shame that folks will never experience this kind of ever again 🙁 WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

Remember when I ever sa the iconic prism, on a poster in his room when I was little. is grave marker even has "see you on the dark side of the moon" on it. His I miss him. One day I will hopefully track down one of his guitars. Thank you Umphrey McGee's for supporting my brother. He lived a amazing life. 💎🎸
I agree. No one out there comes near their level of virtuosity as a band. But I have a love/hate relationship with these guys. Sometimes they scare the shit out of me especially if I'm in an alternate state of mind if you know what I mean. Yet I keep going back and have seen them 20+ times. Yeah it's weird.
They're not Pink Floyd...they're Umphrey's McGee. They know dam well they are not Pink Floyd, however, it does not stop them from performing a poignant, tight rendition of Shine on you Crazy Diamond...well done! Umphrey's McGee...well done indeed. I saw PF in Germany in the 70,s (yes I'm old) yall did an awesome job. Saw dire straits back then to. I'm told I had a great time,but I remember very little,,,because it was the 7o,s and everyone was shiny. 😉
Just awesome, giving new interpretations through live performance of compositions is what keeps classical music alive and relevant today; the same should apply to 'popular music' as well - this one sure sets a high standard for other performances of Shine on you.
I’m an old prog rock guy (Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, gentile giant etc), who happens to have been a session player for decades. Believe me, there are not a lot of bands out there today that impress me. UM is one of the very few that get my attention, and it’s well deserved. There is a lot of musical prowess in this group of folks. Just give the London sessions or Anchor drops a listen...... It’s really a shame that the general public wouldn’t know good music if it bit them in the a**, especially in the US. Keep making great music, and us people that appreciate it will keep listening.

I was at this show on a head full. There was a thunderstorm in the distance and you could see lightning striking over the denver area. The what I think was full moon stayed hidden most of the night until they played this and it slowly emerged from behind the clouds above the stage. lt all came together so well. I was spun but will never forget that.

WOW, FUCKING WOOOW!!! THAT WAS FUCKING GREAT!! Never EVER have I heard such a faithful reading of a cover that was at once 1. 99.9% flawlessly accurate in its Note For Note Precision, and 2. Utterly faithful to the spirit of the original without being Pandering. I’ve Never heard such a perfect reading of such an important song. You tend to forget how important such tunes, really such whole Records were to the lives of a Whole Generation. When I looked at the audience in this I was struck by the fact that this song was probably Just As Critically Important to MANY MANY of the audience members as it was for me (at least it was like this for those old enough to remember).
You guys honed in on THE BEST version of this song. Nice job. So glad to see it get the respect it deserves. Delicate Sound of Thunder is a great album to listen to during long drives on open roads.

The best ever song to a friend that was lost to mental illness. It does not get any better or more honest in a loving way thatn PF did with this song. They were all heart broken about losing their friend. Such a sad story with a beautiful message. Just ran across this tonight. What a great tribute to one of my favorites

Got stuck in traffic going into the 1st Bannaroo and spent 12 hrs. and 15 miles with you guys. Mary played Uno with the band in the rv. I walked the road boozin, and Jesse snailed the Subaru. I will never forget that night!

What a fantastic rendition of a wonderful song. Dark Side of The Moon started it all and the many songs of PF have come back to stun listeners of today. It takes balls to try this tune and they did it GREAT! Thank You guys!
As brilliant as Jake is hearing this makes you really appreciate having seen Floyd back in 70s. Gilmour made the intro guitar lines seamless in a way that lve never seen matched since.
This is the best cover of this song I've ever heard. It's nice they realised what makes Pink Floyd isn't playing the exact thing they played, it means playing different with creativity and improvisation, and soul; things those tribute bands actually lack. Really good job. Also, I love another PF cover that shares some good things with this one: Kauan's cover of Breathe: it's just too good as a cover; as if pf was a 21st century rock band, they would play Breathe this way.
I was never much of a Pink Floyd fan, being more into the Dead and the Stones and that little band from Texas, but this is a truly great cover of an excellent song. When Pink Floyd were on - meaning they gave Gilmour room to be great - they were fantastic. Nice to see such talented musicians taking on this song so seriously.
Jake's a master at sounding like any guitarist he wants to - but I think this talent is fully realized whenever he's doing Gilmour. He somehow manages to play the licks almost note-for-note but still retain some of his own style and flare. Not easy to do.
You can hear a bit more attack, than Gilmour uses, but that's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to hear an exact replica, of the original (I've got the record, tape, CD etc for that). I want to hear the personality of the band. This is a pretty good cover (& far better than most).
If you think that sounds like Gilmour, then you have never heard Gilmour. Yeah, he's playing the same chords, but he doesn't have Gilmour's depth. David Gilmour is absolutely intimately connected with his guitar. This guy is playing the same chords, but he doesn't have the timing that Gilmour has, because he doesn't feel it the way Gilmour does.
I had heard the name Umphrey's McGee but thought they were a country band. So when I saw the title of this video I just had to check it out. Wow, man these guys are really good. Dude has that G&L sounding tight, great tone.
Watched a Pink Floyd documentary and all they did throughout it was cry and lament and whine about Sid and his illness which caused him to leave the band. They made a huge catalog of music written pretty much about Sid that minted them fame & fortune. I'm sorry about Sid but because Sid left they got what wanted. Sid's illness was disruptive and they wouldn't have gone any where with him in the band.
Was fortunate enough to have grown up with The Floyd. Saw them 5 times, 4 in the 70s and in 94 (Pulse). This is a very good take on a PF classic, one of the greatest songs ever written. It's nice to see the younger generation(s) appreciation of great music and play with the passion the song intended.

I loved his tone in the old days with the G&L special with the P-90's into a Fender.. but he always has great tone (don't know his name) In my opinion a PRS can rob anyone on unique and inspiring tone... (ha.. sorry just my opinion) but these guys just kill.. great band!
Despite the flaws in this performance, I don't think it's worth complaining about. I think many young guitar players daydream about playing this song on top-notch equipment to a large crowd with a full light show, and these guys get to fulfill that. Inviting comparison to Pink Floyd is something that serious musicians usually avoid, and that tells me they're not too concerned with the quality of this cover. Just a bunch of dudebros having fun up there.
Except for the fact that UM are better musicians than Pink Floyd across the board. Seen PF several times, they were not this musically tight in concert, trust me.
So, I have a chance to see them this fall. Was going to pass, didn't know much other than hearing about them on the Jam Band circuit, oh yeah, he told me they have an amazing light show. So, decide to check them out, here and Wikipedia. Progressive rock with Jam band influences. so let's see. Yes, Genesis, Floyd, Crimson, in the spirit of the Dead, Panic, with a sprinkle of Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and a dash of Beatles (Going by their stated influences) Yeah, Grew up on Progressive rock (late 70's and early adulthood thru the 80's) as well as metal, turned on to the Dead, then ABB and Panic at the start of the 90's. Yeah, think they're definitely worth checking out!!!!
a word about red rocks...back in the day they used to let the crowd push right up against the stage -- and there were no problems. Now they have a chasm with security goons sitting down in front. The first three rows are no longer the best seats in the house. Try row 12 for perfection. Still a gorgeous venue, but the real intimacy is gone.

It's crazy to me how I can instantly know/feel the power of a guitarists spirit/soul after listening for 10 seconds. Guitarists especially, but i can do this with all musicians for the most part. After that wierd-ass, kind of annoying comment, all i really have to say is, holy fucking shit 😳 I enjoyed this so fucking much I nearly started weeping tears of ecstatic joy.
There is an insane amount of talent on that stage. Not many bands come close to playing this tight.

Sometimes I forget how ridiculously good Bayliss is at guitar... then I look at this stuff. His jazzy solo was incredible. My all time fav live video.

The best ever song to a friend that was lost to mental illness. It does not get any better or more honest in a loving way thatn PF did with this song. They were all heart broken about losing their friend. Such a sad story with a beautiful message. Just ran across this tonight. What a great tribute to one of my favorites

As brilliant as Jake is hearing this makes you really appreciate having seen Floyd back in 70s. Gilmour made the intro guitar lines seamless in a way that lve never seen matched since.

This is the best cover of this song I've ever heard. It's nice they realised what makes Pink Floyd isn't playing the exact thing they played, it means playing different with creativity and improvisation, and soul; things those tribute bands actually lack. Really good job. Also, I love another PF cover that shares some good things with this one: Kauan's cover of Breathe: it's just too good as a cover; as if pf was a 21st century rock band, they would play Breathe this way.
I was never much of a Pink Floyd fan, being more into the Dead and the Stones and that little band from Texas, but this is a truly great cover of an excellent song. When Pink Floyd were on - meaning they gave Gilmour room to be great - they were fantastic. Nice to see such talented musicians taking on this song so seriously.
I was lucky enough to be at this show and can't wait for their NYE run! They are simply unbeatable live!
Jake's a master at sounding like any guitarist he wants to - but I think this talent is fully realized whenever he's doing Gilmour. He somehow manages to play the licks almost note-for-note but still retain some of his own style and flare. Not easy to do.

You can hear a bit more attack, than Gilmour uses, but that's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to hear an exact replica, of the original (I've got the record, tape, CD etc for that). I want to hear the personality of the band. This is a pretty good cover (& far better than most).

If you think that sounds like Gilmour, then you have never heard Gilmour. Yeah, he's playing the same chords, but he doesn't have Gilmour's depth. David Gilmour is absolutely intimately connected with his guitar. This guy is playing the same chords, but he doesn't have the timing that Gilmour has, because he doesn't feel it the way Gilmour does.
I had heard the name Umphrey's McGee but thought they were a country band. So when I saw the title of this video I just had to check it out. Wow, man these guys are really good. Dude has that G&L sounding tight, great tone.

Watched a Pink Floyd documentary and all they did throughout it was cry and lament and whine about Sid and his illness which caused him to leave the band. They made a huge catalog of music written pretty much about Sid that minted them fame & fortune. I'm sorry about Sid but because Sid left they got what wanted. Sid's illness was disruptive and they wouldn't have gone any where with him in the band.

Was fortunate enough to have grown up with The Floyd. Saw them 5 times, 4 in the 70s and in 94 (Pulse). This is a very good take on a PF classic, one of the greatest songs ever written. It's nice to see the younger generation(s) appreciation of great music and play with the passion the song intended.
Some of the bends are extreme, you need a great ear to execute them, i like this version very much

nice.. random find.. glad he's back to playing the G&L's.. I loved his tone in the old days with the G&L special with the P-90's into a Fender.. but he always has great tone (don't know his name) In my opinion a PRS can rob anyone on unique and inspiring tone... (ha.. sorry just my opinion) but these guys just kill.. great band!

Despite the flaws in this performance, I don't think it's worth complaining about. I think many young guitar players daydream about playing this song on top-notch equipment to a large crowd with a full light show, and these guys get to fulfill that. Inviting comparison to Pink Floyd is something that serious musicians usually avoid, and that tells me they're not too concerned with the quality of this cover. Just a bunch of dudebros having fun up there.
It is if you are sitting in front of your computer with 100 pink Floyd songs waiting to be played and this shit pops up.

Except for the fact that UM are better musicians than Pink Floyd across the board. Seen PF several times, they were not this musically tight in concert, trust me.

Yeah, Grew up on Progressive rock (late 70's and early adulthood thru the 80's) as well as metal, turned on to the Dead, then ABB and Panic at the start of the 90's.
Yeah, think they're definitely worth checking out!!!!

a word about red rocks...back in the day they used to let the crowd push right up against the stage -- and there were no problems. Now they have a chasm with security goons sitting down in front. The first three rows are no longer the best seats in the house. Try row 12 for perfection. Still a gorgeous venue, but the real intimacy is gone.

It's crazy to me how I can instantly know/feel the power of a guitarists spirit/soul after listening for 10 seconds. Guitarists especially, but i can do this with all musicians for the most part. After that wierd-ass, kind of annoying comment, all i really have to say is, holy fucking shit 😳 I enjoyed this so fucking much I nearly started weeping tears of ecstatic joy.
