  • Unlike perhaps some other videos, I show you realistically what's involved to remove the Honda Civic MK8 for the first time, with tips and things to avoid to help you so you can get a true feel.
    I cover each screw and panel that needs to be removed and care required.
    In addition there is a little secret tip that will save you time and stress for future work too !
    Lastly, I show you how to install a USB, Bluetooth, AUX adaptor, however despite it connecting and plugging in, it did not function for me, but the install remains the same.
    Bluetooth USB adaptor device that was tried in the video:

    Opel corsa - press a button and the radio hops out.
    Honda civic - dismantle the whole car and break some latches while putting it back together. No worries, there are still some left over :)

    I did pretty much this same thing back when I got my Civic in... um... 2015? I ran the cable for a Bluetooth module through to the armrest as you mentioned, and it fed through to CD/AUX just fine. It's a pity it didn't work for you.
    Anyway, I'm here now because I've completely forgotten how to get the all panels off, and I'm about to apply lipstick to an ancient pig by trying to put in a touchscreen retrofit I bought on special offer from AliExpress for ~£150... CarPlay, Google Maps, phone integration, front and rear cameras. Admittedly it'll look a bit weird in a 2007 Civic, but it comes with a right-hand-drive Civic Mk8 fascia replacement, so I figured it was worth a shot.
    Thanks for the informative video!

      @@tomgidden Cheers for the kind funny words, what module of Bluetooth adapter did you find worked?

    • @tomgidden
      @tomgidden 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It was an unbranded "Car Bluetooth handsfree A2DP MP3 CD changer adapter-Honda Civic CRV 2006-2013" from eBay, not even listed anymore, and even the enclosure was a generic black ABS box without any printing or labelling. The wiring was the special plug running to a generic 15-pin (?) D-plug, so I guess they cranked out many different cables for different cars.
      About five years after fitting I realised that it wasn't just the Vol +/- buttons on the steering wheel, but the Ch +/- buttons work as Forward/Back on the iPhone too. I'm not sure if that was a feature that came with an iPhone update or if I'd just never noticed!
      When I fitted mine, I thought it was a failure too, but it takes a good 10-20 seconds between the phone connecting and sound actually coming out.
      Even once I knew it worked, for a long time I kept fiddling as the BT connecting tended to pause my iPhone, and then I'd wonder if it worked, press something else which would then mess up the whole sequence. What I thought was an unreliable process turned out just to be a sloooow one, requiring patience. If on CD/AUX and the stereo display indicates track 88 or 99 (usually 99) it usually eventually works.
      Failing that, I'm afraid you were just unlucky with the particular one you bought. Mine certainly wasn't anything special or high-quality!

    • @tomgidden
      @tomgidden 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ah, the box itself is identical to the one in eBay item 204289440816; I'm avoiding links, due to TH-cam's auto-moderation. That item's for an Audi, though. It's not the same as the one that comes up for a search for Honda Civic Bluetooth Aux.
      When I finally get the stamina to get in my car and fit the touchscreen, I'll get some better details on the working module, if that helps.

    • @GrooveOn
      @GrooveOn  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@tomgidden thanks again, I've fitted different devices to different cars with good results, but the Honda is my little computer car, I've not paid too much attention to mods. If you can remember what plug you went into at the back that would be amazing,!

    • @tomgidden
      @tomgidden 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No idea -- it was 9 years ago! -- but I'll take a look when I get it apart. I _think_ I'm taking the whole lot out for this upgrade, so I'll photograph everything; if nothing else just so I can put it back later if necessary.
      All goes well I'll have a go this weekend.

    Question, I have a 2.2 2009 4 door and I don't have an AUX under my arm rest. Do you know if I can put in a replacement centre bit with armrest from a car that has the AUX umder the armrest and just wire it up ?
    I assume the wires/connectors will be there regardless just like the heated seat connectors are there even without heated seats.

      Hi there, I too do not have an AUX socket despite showing on my Radio. I didn't notice a spare loom for the AUX when I removed the centre console though. It would be probably easier to find what plug at the back of the Radio can be used for AUX, then you can plug in a Bluetooth module to stream wirelessly,

      First you have to fully plug in both ends of the Connects2 SWC black box (complete the loop). The ISO harness is the last thing you plug in, and should hear a beep.
      Maybe unplug just the ISO harness, then reconnect it. Then see if the SWC functions can be programmed.? It looks like all harnesses need to be connected to create the loop and done in an order perhaps?
