    This didn't show up on my phone. Oh man this is up my alley! You get a feeling when you go to these places. It's good to get them on video because they are slowly going away. Watch out for open shafts and stuff that will cut your tires. Keep it up and I'll be knocking on your door. 10:10 is an ore chute . 10:23 is ahead frame. Your assumption was correct on how it worked. Looks like there were multiple shafts. Cool Place!

      I figured you'd be the man with the answers. I didn't know the politically correct (I hate that saying) terms for the mining structures but I guess my guesses were good enough. There's some old log cabins at the top of the mountain that I want to check out but we didn't have enough time. I guess I'll have to go back....with a hammock.

    Love old mining sites. What a beautiful area. I could spend days up there just exploring the hillside. Thanks for sharing.

      I'd love to spend days in these canyons. Supposedly there's several mines and left over towns in the hills. Multiple open mines are visible from the roads. It would be awesome to explore the mines and obviously dangerous. Which would make it more fun.

      ***** There's a recorded 17,000 abandoned mines in Utah, take your pick.

    I feel like I'm on the wrong end of Utah. We'd have so much fun if I were up there man... every day off we'd be riding.

      You are on the wrong end of Utah...only during summer though. The rest of the time it's me on the wrong end.

    Nice ride as always! Did you guys continue up past Jacob city? You can just make out the first of the switch backs at 5:40ish in your video. If you stay left instead of dropping down into Jacob city, you follow some steep switchbacks up to commodore pass. There is a cool old hunting cabin in the saddle of the pass.
    Oh, by the way the trails up AF are all open and in great shape. Rode 157/252 the other day. I am off Tuesdays, lets head up there some time soon.

    • @MrRojoneck
      @MrRojoneck  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      We stopped where the trail split and I went right to check out the old city. I wanted to head up to the cabin afterwards but everyone else started complaining about being hungry so we heading into Tooele and then home. I want to go back to check out the cabin/find some Grouse hunting grounds and ride the trail over to Ophir to see if it's still passable. The local in Ophir told me it's posted "No Trespassing" and "it's a horse trail" so I want to make sure he wasn't lying to me. If I find out he is I will hunt him down and throat punch him.
      We were up AF Canyon yesterday! GoatCabeza was in town and he wanted to go up to Tibble Fork to do some fly fishing. Got my hands all slimmed up and some dirt on the KLR. Let's hook up. I think I have your number in my phone??? If not, I'll send you a message.

    • @Gunner40Five
      @Gunner40Five 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** No way, I was up there yesterday. I got up to the trail head about 4:30 and rode till about 6:30. I was just up on the ridge above you.
      I can confirm that the trail is posted and fenced on the Ophir side. I was up there last fall to see if I could make it up to commodore pass from the Ophir side. No dice, lots of sings and a chain link fence.
      Sounds great! Give me a call or drop me an email and we'll head up the canyon.

      ***** We just missed you then. We left Silver Lake Flat at 4:00 to make it home by 5:00. Good to know about the Ophir to Jacob City route. I still want to go check out the old cabin up there. Now I need to find other ghost towns/mining towns to go check out.

      Scranton is an old mining area just south of 5 mile. Cool old ore chute and some cool vertical shafts that have grates across them that you can look down. Makes for a good afternoon ride. 40° 2.942'N 112° 12.049'W

    That's pretty awesome! There is one ghost town I want to see near where I live, but I have to take a diving course first, because it now sits at the bottom of a lake in the Rockies. Ride safe.

    • @MrRojoneck
      @MrRojoneck  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CenCalADV It's a Two Brother's M7 VALE exhaust (I believe). I had to install the silencer tip thingymobobber to drop the sound a tiny bit. It sounded like F16 jet fighters flying behind me without the tip installed. Rattled my brain. I priced shopped Amazon until I found a decent price and bought one. I love it.

    • @MrRojoneck
      @MrRojoneck  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Find Stockton (South of Tooele). Go south east from Stockton and you'll find it. It's the canyon north of Ophir.

    • @MrRojoneck
      @MrRojoneck  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I wonder what the small city looked like when it was up and running. It's hard to imagine when all that left is a few wooden foudations, concrete foundations and one or two wooden structures. Supposedly there's a few log cabin at the top of the mountain but we didn't have enough time to find out. Next time maybe??

    • @rideforrestride
      @rideforrestride 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    How's the klr do up that high

    • @MrRojoneck
      @MrRojoneck  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      md123420 We weren't too high up at Jacob City. My KLR had stock jetting and didn't have any problems or start acting up until 8,000ft or higher. Biggest issue I had with the bike was keeping the air filter clean. I'd change my oil and had to change my air filter every 1,000 miles. Overkill on oil but it's super cheap and easy. The air filter was completely clogged at 1,000 miles with all the dirt riding I do.

    Looks like a good place for a weekend night-party. ...

    Cook some sausage and heat-up some beans.

      ***** Well ... The location offers some unique advantages, so long as nobody cares TOO much, if you are out there, over-night. .... You are in a big basin, so light and noise is somewhat contained (as is wind) ... There are plenty FLAT and SMOOTH floors and foundations and loose planks that would make a fairly comfortable bivouac. There are some foundation walls where you could set up some plinking targets and any moderate noise would be deflected by the 360 degree backstop. ... Just pack out your trash and cover your poop with a pile of rocks. ... As far as snakes and scorpions, go ?? I would recommend using a light patrol bag and ZIP IT !! ... Make sure reptiles are not snuggling with your body heat, in the morning and shake out your boots, real good. ... Them Pinto Beans give a whole new meaning to the "Power of BRRRRAP!".
      biv·ou·ac

      noun
      noun: bivouac; plural noun: bivouac

      phrankus2009 And ... After a few brews, break out the wrist-rocket sling-shots and have a tournament, ... Loser picks up all the beer cans and packs them out.
      And if you do "all that" ... Do a group, " man-fart salute" (in unison), in honor of your old pal, Phrankus ... As you hold your hands over your hearts and, then, count meteors, as you drift off (or pass out) under The Milky Way Galaxy.
