This song is so much more compelling and emotional when preformed by Winslow. The other version is great too, but feels much more commercial... souless even. I wonder if that was intentional.
It was the intention. De Palma stated that at the start, we hear the concerto in it's purest form and as the film goes on, we hear it getting twisted and farther away from what it was with each time we hear it. The Juicy Fruits, the auditions artists, Beef and even Swan's versions are even more far away from the original version. The closest to pure is when Phoenix performs it after Beef's death, which her singing it moves Winslow.

No wonder so many musicians go independent instead of relying on the record companies.
@@coralroper6876 I'll agree with you on that. I wish there would have been more that happened in the beginning of the movie, but I assume they were forced to rush through filming it because tight schedules were such a hassle for movie directors during the 70's.
Leave it as it is. Winslow Leach doesn't want his music to be mutilated by other bands. It's his cantata and it should never be in the hands or ears of greedy music producers.
It’s so weird putting the playlist on shuffle and getting both Fausts back to back! I like them both for different reasons, and whichever I prefer more honestly just depends on what I’m more in the mood to listen to at the moment.
I ended up watching this film again the other night for the first time in a few years. It was just as good as I remembered! This song has been stuck in my head ever since.

Orwell - Bill Finley was never a good vocalist, but that wasn’t the point. It was his character’s passion for the material that gives his voice such resonance. He clearly never would have actually had a chance of performing his own music in any venue.
This is awesome, like so many other I remember this 1977 78?. I honestly looked for this soundtrack when I first got on the internet. Couldn't find it and forgot about it until now! Have to look for Paul Williams version of this..

Intentional, though. Winslow still has his soul at this point. Swan only cares about the money and fame, which is why his version is catchier and flashy but has no feeling. It's what makes Paul Williams brilliant for both his writing and his performance
Winslow you buddy are not alone for I am here feeling the same but the thing is I can't dream of friends nor smiles. I myself can't feel the happiness nor love since I am alone. Please don't call me an edge lord for I am not. I'm just experiencing life for what it really is but sadly it's just a fraction of life that I'm experiencing and not the whole thing so I'm greatful for what I have now. I'm alone too, and have been for a long time...and I mean, really alone... as far as having anyone to turn to, for support, anyone I can rely on or share things with, anyone that I connect with... beyond surface acquaintances. So, hang in there. We alone people need to stick together...that is, remotely, from whatever cave or dungeon we're living in. Lol. (And wtf is an "edge lord?" I suppose I could look it up). Just know you're not alone in your isolation. And hey, the only way I don't feel completely alone is through having certain isolated characters to relate to, myself. And I try to fill the void in other ways, I suppose...things that help substitute the existence of people in my life, so I can get by (I don't mean drugs or anything like that, but more like activities).
I hope things get better for you, just remember that there are people out there that care and that sometimes music is the best medicine (I sound so corny, sorry!) things will get better eventually! ^_^
I posted a comment like this once, when I was younger and heartbroken over a recent breakup, on a song that was really helping me get by. That's so lovely! My dad shown me the movie back in 2005 (I was ten then) and I loved it.
My father also showed me this movie and it was amazing I was 10 if I’m correct it was great
I saw the movie when I was the same age, I still adore it in my 20s

Dream each other's smiles
Dream it never ends
All my dreams are lost and I can't sleep
And sleep alone could ease my mind
All my tears have dried and I can't weep
Old emotions, may they rest in peace
And dream, dream a bunch of friends
Rest in peace, and dream, dream it never ends...
Thank you
Old emotions may they rest in peace...

I love Bill's voice! He sings this song with so much passion!

“Dream eachothers smile” that lyric just gets me

Winslow still have a soul, so he can sing with it.
Swan's version has a badass bass line tho.
