- The germ theory of disease is the currently accepted scientific theory for many diseases. It states that microorganisms known as pathogens or "germs" can lead to disease. These small organisms, too small to see without magnification, invade humans, other animals, and other living hosts. This video explains the Germ theory of diseases and also Koch's Postulates.

What is the justification for Koch's postulates not applying to viruses? You didn't really provide that. I don't see why these rules wouldn't apply.
It is said during 1800, as techniques were not developed to grow viruses, it failed to explain. But theoretically the Koch's postulates can be applied to viral diseases too. As per the third postulate, the organism should cause same disease when introduced into a healthy human body, but it may not happen due to acquired immunity.

Dr. Kaufman, I just finished watching a video on your channel (and had watched another last week) and became interested in learning about germ theory and Koch’s postulates. What a coincidence that you posted a question on the first video I found! And, how interesting that it was from pre-lockdown and pre-mask wearing!
1842 was not in the 18th century.
I see a lot of comments here against the Germ theory. To sum up, this video is only to show the evolution in Microbiology and diseases based on the history. There is nothing wrong in knowing their beliefs in those days. No where in this video said Germ theory is ultimate. And don’t forget that every microbiologist is being taught the Germ theory. This is what we all are here for. Thanks for understanding.

How's the definitions of theory different? You didn't explain.
We can't explain any of those with concrete evidence. Thats why they are scientific theories. Like gravity we can observe but we have no idea what it is. We can't replicate it.
Same with string theory, evolution theory etc.
But germs are observed and can easily be tested. We can inject germs into a mouse and make it sick.. so whys germ theory still a theory?

So germs are a theory? Germs haven't been proven by science yet? Because in school I was taught that a theory was a supposition or a system of ideas (by nature, NOT PROVEN... example being "string theory"... notice theres no "math theory" because math is a fact).
