Needed this. My sister lost 75 pounds ozempic while I’m 10 pounds. Hard not to be disappointed as she’s never hungry on the meds while I still am and even at a higher dose. Need to stop comparing myself.
Me too... My weight has gone up and down by three (3) pounds since July. I started on 3/8/23 and only lost 23 pounds. 😔 I am currently on 2.4mg ~ And, yes!!! I am hungry a LOT lately. 😡
Great video...30 pounds down since Feb. of this year but let me tell you I had to change the amount of food I consumed. Also, I started roller skating at least 5 days a week and love it! I had to stop looking at the scale for I have gone from a size 14 to a size 8 and a lot of this is due to inches lost and not pounds. Don't get me wrong I love seeing the scale go down but to know I'm extending my life; priceless.
Great video. Many thanks. Lost 36lbs from 205lbs starting weight. Took 5 months. At a plateau for last six weeks but need to refocus and reduce calories and increase activity. Finding all your videos very helpful. Thanks for the time and effort.
Nice vid Dan, and yes, setting appropriate expectations is really important. 💡 Feeling like you’ve ‘failed’ when you really haven’t is demotivating and could sabotage one’s WL efforts entirely.
Great advice! I lost 54 lbs in 8 mo. (1-2/wk) on 1200 calories, 2x strength training/wk with Mounjaro & 30 more to go. The lowest dose controls my type 2 diabetes, no side effects. I have an appetite but my binge eating disorder is cured. This alone is a miracle. I am happy with slow/steady/sustainable.
wonderful but I did better without medication, 106 lbs in 9 months, I did it with low carb, some exercise (mostly walking/bike, and only eating once or twice a day. for me, HRT was the magic bullet. if you are over age 47, consider hormones.
I’ve lost 60+ lbs in 7 months on Wegovy, but I’ve also introduced heavy weight training 3x a week and eating much less. I’ve finally been able to start eating semi-normally and at a stable weight of 150 lbs for the past couple of weeks.
32% weightloss on Mounjaro, as of 10/15/23. 🙋 I started the 2.5mg starter dose Nov 2022. I titrated up very slowly due to side effects. Currently on 7.5mg dose. (Highest dose I've used). My weightloss has slowed down substantially, but I'm close to my goal weight. Hopefully I'll start maintenance soon so I can titrate back down.
In 68 weeks I was down 33.53% I'm at 73 weeks now and down 36.48% of my starting weight. I'm on 1 mg of Ozempic weekly, did four weeks at .25 and six weeks at .5 and I've been on 1mg since.
Anyone with a constipation as a side effect of semaglutide - these have helped me personally - cut down or eliminate salads and raw veggies - eat only cooked veggies like stir fries, steamed etc - drink 1 glass of hot (bearable) first thing as soon as wake up in the morning. Then have a heavy veggies based breakfast like stir fried veggies and rice and protein. - drink at least 1.5L if sedentary , at least 2L if exercise - engage in exercises that involves jumping up and down like skipping rope - take magnesium supplements
Thank you, that was very helpful. Im 55, lost 160lbs from VSG almost 3 years ago. After that had both knees replaced and gains 15lbs. I’m currently 228 on Mounjaro for 8 weeks and have lost 5lbs. I also was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and on meds for that. I’ve stayed in a calorie deficit most often but the weight won’t go down. Hoping Mounjaro will help. Can Graves’ disease and methimazole attribute to slow weight loss. Forgot to add, I’m only 5’2. 😊
As long as you are, thyroid levels are in range with the meds it should be removed as an impediment. You are losing at a good rate. I would take a closer look at your calorie deficit and activity levels.
@@theofficialdrdan I walk 30 min daily and daily calories are between 1400-1600. Mostly 1400. If it’s too low, will that slow down the loss? I don’t know how accurate the TDEE calculator is?
@user-rn7uj9dr1y it won't slow down the loss. The tdee can be reasonable for most people. It sounds like you are doing a lot of good things and you are losing weight. So can you eat less calories or walk even more? If not, get really good at what you're doing and be patient.
I've lost 31lbs in 3 months on Ozempic.50. My doctor bumped my dosage up to 1mg.I started increasing my weight training with more protein in my diet too keep some muscle mass.
I lost 90 pounds in 10 months using ozempic. i started at 244 down to 156 then stopped cannot lose another ounce no matter what I do or how much I excercise
@@theofficialdrdan I have 20 pounds until I'm in my healthy weight range for my height.. I've also had a slight regain of 8 pounds the past couple of months. Can't get ozempic in Australia atm.
I know it's not a fun topic but what constitute Constipation? So far on Ozempic a few times I did not go to the bathroom the whole day and there were days I did not go for 2 whole days. My Mother's home attendant who is not on Ozempic but has issues with constipation told me 2 days without going is nothing as she sometimes doesn't go for a whole week. Just curious on account that i hear people say "it gave me constipation" so I'm wondering if it was 1 day, 2 day 3 or more not going to the bathroom.
That is super variable. The best definition would be going less frequently than your usual. If you go from once daily to once every two days that technically be 'constipation'. But the other factor we need to look at is if you are having symptoms. If it's causing abdominal discomfort and straining etc. Then we need to manage. Otherwise frequency may be reduced but not causing problems and may return to normal as your body gets used to the medication.
I agree that diet and exercise changes are needed to maximize your health (and weight loss). However, I strongly disagree that these medications are "nothing special." These medications are a breakthrough for obesity.
I appreciate the comment. As a clinician, what I am trying to convey is that these drugs won't be your savyor. The work is still needed, and the drugs make it a little bit easier.
@Clark Dr. Dan’s central message that it’s ultimately about sustainable lifestyle changes is absolutely correct. But that said, the weight-loss meds do strongly *enable* said sustainable lifestyle changes. For example, I wouldn’t be eating the portion sizes I am now, and the better KINDS of foods I am now, without the WL meds. In fact, they’ve even motivated me to return to the gym (‘cuz for the 1st time in years, I’m actually seeing good results.)👌 To Dan though, it may seem like we’re over-focusing on the meds, which will potentially make us miss the big picture. But for many ppl, there may not be much daylight between the meds and that big picture (sustainable lifestyle changes) - since they wouldn’t be successfully MAKING said lifestyle changes without the meds… at least at first. 🤔
@clarkkent7973 is Ozempic really a "breakthrough for obesity"? How do we know that? There hasn't been any research that supports that. I'm obese and I haven't lost any weight while on Ozempic. The only reason I still take it is because I haven't had experiences with low blood sugar since taking it. No more dizziness, no shaking, and no need for drinking pop and sugar loaded coffee all day long. I also no longer crave sugar all day long. I'm now going to have to go back to trying to lose weight like a regular person. It sucks.
@@cloakster There is no question that some weight loss can begin a great cycle of improvement. For me personally, I am able to walk faster after losing some weight so I get more cardio conditioning (I am able to get into the "moderate" cardio heart rate range). The ability to walk faster is helping me lose more weight...
I've lost 10kg over 5.5 months from 68kg down to 58kg. No exercises, only 10k steps a day. Started with eating nornally then progressively eating cleaner and cleaner. I still fit chips in my daily diet but only a small portion and the only fruits are now berries. I'd say Ozempic makes it ALOT easier to stick to a simple and clean diet. However I still had to prepare and cook my heavy veggies based and lean protein meals every week. Whenever I don't, the scale will NOT move at all!! Honestly the cost of ozempic from the visual point of view, has helped save a lot of cosmetic surgery. Being over weight makes me look older. Now I look younger and feel younger. I have heard that eventually the food noise comes back. I have had some of that, but only on the weeks my diet is not on point. I dont intend to let Ozempic do all the work for me. I just need some help and I will pull my weight (pun intended) to make it happen. Although I am curious what Mounjaro can do for me....
If the medication curbs your appetite then it makes it easier to sustain a 500-1000 calorie deficit diet. I'm on 0.5 for 11 weeks now and hunger barely change. However, now on my 12th injection, I'm just starting to feel food with just breakfast so lets see what happens down the line.
@theofficialdrdan Yes. My doc wants to increase to 1MG since I have not reached the target A1C he set for me. I have an appt for Nov 2nd. Hopefully that dosage is on stock.
Disappointed that you didn't cover more information from Ozempic phase 3 trials. For example, type-2 diabetics lost less weight and lost weight at a slower pace. The clinical trials also had percentage of people that lost >5%, >10%, and >15% of their body weight. Personally, I will be shocked if I lose 15% of my body weight so maybe I need to increase my expectations.
