I had the good fortune to participate in one of the first open enrollment Modern Minuteman Classes put on by AMTAC Training...
The Course took place near Goldendale, Washington. Day one was largely comprised of a mid range carbine course with a block of instruction around Recce Rifles, ballistics, optics and more. This was followed by confirming zeros and stretching the rifles out on the range.
That afternoon was dedicated to land navigation. Both concepts and principles as well as a practical short course. Plotting points and finding points. Accomplishing this with both map and compass as well as a GPS.
Then on Day 2 of the Modern Minuteman Course, we put it all together in a race. A series of 12 different waypoints you needed to navigate too, intermixed with challenges. Some of the challenges were shooting challenges, some physical and others were task specific, something you needed to preform under a time limit.
Overall it was an amazing course, giving the students the opportunity to learn new skills and put them to use in a really fun competition.

I could be wrong, but I think they do a “hunters games” which is kind of similar. Not tactical though

I want to go to one of his classes. I love how he meshes everything together. Land nav is one of the most important skill sets to have by far.

Even with that little kip, knockin' out 22 pull ups is great. Good stuff. Looks like it was a damn good time.

Yeah. I just tried my hand at pull-ups for the first time in about 25 years and could only do 6.
I am a fat bastard tho.

That course seems really fun. I could imagine amping it up into a multi day course that involves camping overnight, locating hidden caches and various challenges including shooting, kind of like an amazing race course mixed with recce/shooting, being one of the most amazing popular events ever. If I lived somewhere other than Florida I would seriously consider putting something like that together. If anyone knows of anyone doing something like this for less than a couple thousand please let me know.

Survival Trial (defunct since 2017) was exactly that. SAC still exists, though. It would require a lot of travel from Florida, though

Wow. Hard ass training. I remember once crawling up a small hill about 2 hundred yards to get close enough to a deer for a good shot once I got close enough band behind two stumps I had a good clear shot but I was so winded it. Took me almost 20 minutes to be able to get a steady rest to do a clean one shot kill .
    At over 60 yrs old.
    These guys are tough..

This is good but if a minuteman situation happens people aren't going to be standing still and all ways a great distance it will for the most part be 100 yards or less

If you’re not looking at your compass and keeping the needle in the dog house as you walk, then you are just creating azimuths for no reason. Keep it up tho, once you gain confidence in your land nav I bet you’ll have a blast with this.

  • @headshot8888

These guys are crazy expensive. Just get out and do this yourself. Create your own program and train, train, train. Land nav. is easy. Start small and work up.

Don't worry, just buddies calling each other out when they need it... :)
