Also it is kind of ageist to judge women for wearing makeup in their 50’s. If it makes one feel happier to wear more makeup and to have fun with it, then why not!

Thank you, Marie-Anne. I spend more money on skincare products (especially moisturizers with SPF 50 or higher) than on makeup. Like you,I don’t use a lot of makeup, just a little mascara and some Vaseline tinted lip balm. I will try to brush my lips before putting on any lip product next time. I learned to spend more on skin care, and less on cosmetics! I loved the result. I felt more like myself than I had in YEARS! Next I took a picture of a style I liked, sat in my hair stylist’s chair and got my hair cut-short! No more hair color, no more overdone makeup, and I feel great! Natural and minimal work for me!

That Laura Mercier primer is really good - I worked on an LM counter very briefly, and clients in this age range were always very impressed with it. With foundation, how you apply it makes all the difference: with a beauty blender sponge, for example. This makes sure that the foundation is mainly where you need it. Definitely agree about Benefit eyebrow products - best I've tried. I tend to spend more on skincare now than I used to, but in some ways I am more adventurous. The trick for me is to do the whole look together: make up, outfit and how I feel that day, where I'm going etc. Thank you for doing a video for women over 50: I like all kinds of make up videos, but as you say, most are for women in their 20s, with looks that just aren't appropriate for someone older. Moreover, they use a lot of make up.

I am in my 30s, but I like such tips. The first wrinkles are already here and in the age of 30 I became rosacea 😔 Less makeup is difficult. In summer I dont wanna wear foundation, but my cheeks are very red, so I enjoy all the other seasons more. I prefer a light coverage, I like it natural and show my freckles, but I must cover my redness. The older I get and with rosacea I must be gentle to my skin and always wear sun protection. Sun protection and read the INCIS in your products is so important. And like you I dont wear much eyeshadow. I do not own palettes anymore, just single eyeshadows 😃

    • @Off_the_clock_astrophysicist
      @Off_the_clock_astrophysicist 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't know if it can work with rosacea, but I swear by L'Oreal's magic skin beautifier BB cream. I have flushed cheeks (especially in the summer when I'm hot!) and this works like magic. It comes out quite liquid and green out of the tube. Once applied, it turns beige to match your skin tone. You can apply several "coats" in areas that need it most. It works on reasonable summer days (not when sweating heavily, you have to give up then). It also tones down other blemishes, while remaining semi transparent. You barely feel it once it's on, and others can't tell you are wearing anything foundation like. It's also quite inexpensive. I get it at Walmart. Don't get it on your clothes, though, it doesn't come off. To treat the underlying issues, try to limit the amount of ultra processed foods you eat.

Special occasions I will use mascara on top lashes, lipstick either a neutral or a tone that is similiar to the tones in clothes. My skin is definitely getting drier as I get older. I find I am buying less makeup and more moisturizers nowadays.
A trick I’ve learned is to use very, very, light coats. If you use a brush, lightly stipple it rather than sweep it around to hide pores. I don’t use powders anymore, but if you do, put it lightly on the brush and gently roll it across your skin to keep it from settling in too much. Start as thin as possible and build on any places that need more. Ultra thin layers is how Leonardo painted. :-)

Excellent video Marie-Anne! I love your beautiful pink, black and white backdrop and your new video format. Regarding makeup, I agree that too much is very aging. We have all seen "women
of a certain age" (at least in Canada and the U.S.) wearing mask like foundation that ends at the jawline, powder that accentuates wrinkles and dark lipstick that bleeds into lip lines. I am 65 and suit bright lipstick, red or fuschia, but have toned this down to neutrals for during the day. I mix a high SPF moisturizer with my foundation and apply with a rounded sponge. I always wear powdered blush as I am very pale. My eyes are my best feature, so I use eyelid primer, a thin line of charcoal kohl pencil on the upper lid and mascara on the upper lashes. Sometimes I'll add a little gloss to my lips. I am definitely going for a more natural look as I age.

One nice thing about being older is that you don't need as much eye makeup. I think that may be because the eye socket is less plump and so it's already more defined. I focus on disguising blemishes and adding light to the skin, then liner, light lipstick and defining brows. When I was younger I had lovely full brows with a beautiful arch. Now they're disappearing!

My main Point: *Take care if your skin* you’ll thank yourself later! I looked better when I wore the natural look makeup when I was in my 20’s. Everything I used improved my look. When I washed it off at night I looked less pretty, but okay due to good bone structure. I *began using the highest quality skin care products possible at the age of 18*. Now that I’m older my skin looks better than ever and *I wear no makeup, no coverup, no blush because it all looks better without anything*. I look at least half my age. I do wear lipgloss most days. Makeup at this age doesn’t make me look better. Taking care of the skin is what made it look better. I apply mascara to the tips of my lashes about once per week.

I have rosacea. I used to think of it as 'Yorkshire farmer's wife syndrome'! I've found that keeping sugar and additives out of my diet helps, but make up has been hit and miss. However, I have been introduced to Rosalique foundation. It works a treat. I am 64 and now have a better skin care and make up approach than I've ever had. I think your approach is so simple and your videos really fun. My next job is to simplify my wardrobe and get rid of some of those mistakes!!

I have changed to a more sheer foundation that leaves a slight dewy finish and a cream blush just for the top of my cheekbones. I have also changed to matte powder eye shadows. I love the products from Elate Beauty as they have very clean ingredients which are healthy for me and there packaging is healthy for the environment.

    Bonsoir ✨
Thank you for this forum to share. I very much enjoy your humor, wisdom and knowledge for the art of feminine beautification 🥰 through personal style and claiming an authentic simple system to grace our lives through the stages of womanhood.
I have always focused on inner beauty, knowing this part of me is eternal and to take care of my body which houses my spirit.
My routine care focuses on eating well, exercising, nourishing both body and the face with oils with essential oils and facial masks, while apply minimal makeup because I believe I shine without it.
Daily oil self body massages are essential !
For an occasion I may wear mascara, blush and a red lipstick - Chanel.
Otherwise a clean face, face massage, and a lip emollient daily whether I’m home or out and about.

Marie-Anne, like you, I wore Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer for years. I added only blush and lipstick. Then, sadly I became allergic to the chemical sunscreen additive.
Recently I discovered a brand of makeup that looks skin-like if applied appropriately. The brand is called Chantecaille. I use their Future Skin gel foundation. It looks like I woke up with great skin.
Now that I’m sixty, I need to brighten my best feature - my eyes. I now wear mascara and a single, subtle eyeshadow for a wash of color. (Nothing on the bottom of lashes because I look like a shadowy mess. Ha!) I also discovered that cooler toned lipsticks brighten my grey eyes and face. Indeed, I found “my shade” of Red! My favorite red lipstick is Chanel #607, Camélia Rouge Métal. It’s very wearable. I use a lip pencil only to accent and define my Cupid’s bow. Ooh la la! 💋
The most important product in my makeup bag, however, is mineral sunscreen. This is my last step before applying makeup of any kind. I am currently using HydroPeptide Solar Defense SPF 50 or Glo Skin Beauty Solar Shade SPF 50. I use sunscreen every single day. xxoo

My skin has become much more reactive to certain products. This is to the point of having chemical burns below the eye. I have to have completely dry skin before I apply anything. My skin is fair, dark blond to brown hair and blue eyes. I am 69 years old. I use Aquaphore products for moisturizing. I use Tracy Martyn for cleansing. I go to the spa associated with my dermatologist every six weeks to two months for dermaplaning and facial. They will do a skin check for me every 6 months (looking for suspicious lesions). I use a concealer, primer mixed with a small amount of foundation, mascara, eyebrow pencil and lipstick. Less is truly best! I love your presentations. I feel more confident and comfortable when I watch them. Thank you for your help!

I switched out my makeup this year to Bobbi Brown cosmetics because out of all the brands I have tried, this line looks the best on my mature skin. I’m 53, and I have a minimal makeup routine. I wear a moisturizer mixed with a little foundation, tinted lip balm, taupe cream eyeshadow and 2 coats of mascara. For evening I add a lipstick and blush …that’s it. I love how quickly I can be out the door in the morning these days. I think the most important thing for women over 50 is to have a good moisturizer. If i could only afford 2 things…moisturizer and lipstick are the two beauty items I would buy…if I could afford a 3rd I would buy a mascara :)

Thanks for mentioning vegan products and cruelty free. I’ll be 45 this year and have been vegan/cruelty free for over 20 years. Dr Dray is a dermatologist on TH-cam who really recommends great products most are fragrance free. With age my skin is drier and I moisturize day and night. I stay away from foundations that are matte, no eyeliner because it makes my eyes look smaller and I always wear mascara.

I used to love more eyeshadow! Now, all I look decent in is eyebrow pencil to fill in my now sparse and faded eyebrows. I do a very thin touch of eye liner on upper lash line and mascara upper lashes and a touch on lower. No more does eye liner or shadow look good under my lower lashes as before😢 either. A barely their pinkish more toward violet or mauve lip color...I must have in my purse. I give up on blush now completely! My skin is normal to dry but blotchy and occasionally I smear a light concealer to cover the spots that look bad.

I had never heard of this before, but did pay attention to not just putting on make up but also taking better care of my skin (inside and out.) Now that I am much older it has really paid off and can get away with the no make up look.

Hi Marie-Anne, I am 56 and overall I have good skin. I have never smoked, don't drink and eat 'reasonably' ok, (but could do better). The biggest change in the past five years I've seen in my skin is most definitely around the lower eye area. I have a very simple but effective skincare routine, as I too believe it's not about makeup but more about radiant skin. I cleanse, tone, apply serum, moisturiser, primer, all with hyaluronic acid (key ingredient), and all in very thin layers, then my miracle worker is 'Fabulift' under the eye, it's a temporary tightening and lifting solution that lasts until you choose to remove it. I never put any other product under Fabulift as it can interfere and it is full of good nourishing ingredients. Then I apply L'Oréal True Match Mineral foundation, very finely buffed until it gives a flawless, natural application. I then add a touch of baked blush. For the eyebrows I love Micro-pencils L'Oréal eye contour (incorporates a highlighter) as they give a perfect, filled in tiny hair look to the brow, creating a very natural, effective brow for my sparse eyebrows and you can highlight the arch and inner corner. Then another great product Barry M gel waterproof eyeliner in brown (brown is fabulous for blue eyes and better for anti-aging), I tightline the top and add a fine line in the lower. Then I ADORE Maybelline Push Up Angel, I use waterproof because I have 'sweaty' eyes 🤭. This mascara gives you uplifted anti-aged lashes you never thought you had, and a wide awake look, I really love it. Then I use a pinky/peach nude lipstick as I feel all this out together gives a radiant, fresh look. It takes me 20 minutes and I'm ready to go. I actually think I've now found all of my hero products that actually deliver exactly what I'm looking for and we ladies over 50+ should celebrate what we have. We're daughter's, sisters, mother's, grandmother, nurturers, problem solvers, counsellors....and if like me yesterday (painter & decorator) etc.....we should show the world how special we are our faces have been lived in and achieved so much, enhance it don't mask it x

  • @mizmiki65

I also switched from foundation to tinted moisturizer [Laura Mercier] and changed my black eyeliner for brown or grey. I also need to fill in my eyebrows with pencil which surprised me because they were always so thick! I guess nothing lasts forever, helas. But definitely less makeup with a lighter hand is more flattering after 50 [if not at every age] because you look like a better version of yourself rather than, as you say, "a mask".
My skin has become duller with age so I now do a gentle scrub once a week with a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide [ a mix of about 2:1]: it takes off dead skin cells and brightens your complexion without being too harsh.

I am 52, my hair is a mixed gray and dark, I feel like I look seriously aged and washed out if I don’t have my eyes done. The pinks and navies around you are gorgeous, Marie-Anne. This video is right on time, you must’ve known I turn 50 at the end of this month! Your makeup is always perfect, so natural, but just right. This was a very useful video. I love a minimalistic makeup, especially very minimal eye, but a matte red lip always is so classic...my favorite. I do believe upper lash mascara is very necessary as we age. You shouldn’t see the makeup, just a better looking lady, is how I feel. I’m a huge fan of benefit eye bright! I’ve been using it for years. Silly thing, I’ve always been afraid curling my eyelashes, I don’t know why, it’s really silly. As I age, I think I’m afraid of losing any of those precious lashes. Hello, Marie-Anne. My name is Maria, I am 60 and I live in Cagliari, Italy. Minimal and natural makeup is my favourite one. Just a veil of lipstick or lip balm, blush or bronzer, some mascara and eye pencil. This is the maximum I can wear on my skin now that I am sixty, as well as in the past when I was in my teen. I never felt confident using foundation, unless I apply it as a concealer, just in strategic places. Of course I am paying more attention to skincare. What I am noticed about eyebrows is they are becoming gray and much longer. I need to cut them sometimes. And eye lids are dropping, sob. Thank you for the video.
