  • Scary moment for me when my dog Ollie coughed up blood and was rushed to the emergency animal hospital in the middle of the night. He had a lung condition called Lung Lobe Torsion that required a very expensive surgery and many nights of hospital stays. Make sure you buy pet insurance!

I feel for you. We had to finally put down our little one after 12 years with her. It was one of the hardest time in my life. So cherish every moment & live like there's no tomorrow. Good luck Sherry.

My German Shepard died from bloating (stomach twist) couple years ago. He was only 6 years old. I am still crying as I type. If the vet was knowledgeable enough to identify the cause back then, I would pay anything to do the rescue. You have done the right thing, Sherry. I did a lot of research after my dog passed away to find out the real cause and I wish I knew all the preventive measures. Stomach twist might come back for big dogs after surgery and there are ways to prevent. Not sure about lung lope twist but do look up more information. Take care.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. It’s heartbreaking to know that sometimes death happens prematurely. It is very difficult to tell what’s going on with our pets because they can’t verbalize to us about their body pains. This past week has been incredibly stressful but we are getting through it. Ollie is a tough little boy and is recovering well. My hope is that my experience can help out other pet owners out there one day.

Exactly how I felt too... to share experiences in order to help others prevent or deal with situations. Keep going!

Wow, that's horrible. So sudden 😫. I have a small 5yr old Maltese and thought about insurance. But instead, I've set up a fund (tfsa) because I've heard horror stories of insurance companies finding ways not to pay out. Plus, if nothing happens I still have that money to buy robotic limbs and organs for my pup 🐾

My baby has a lung lobe torsion. He is a 12 year old yorkie and has really bad tracheal collapse so they aren’t confident he will survive this surgery. I don’t know what to do. Can I ask how old Ollie is?

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. Ollie has made a full recovery since his surgery. You can still feel the surgery scars (4”) on his chest under his fur. But he’s doing well now. Ollie will be turning 9 years old in Sept.

@@realtor.sherrychen I think I might go through with this surgery. I know he’s a high risk but isn’t his condition very fatal without surgery? I just keep thinking, if I’m gonna lose him anyway I might as well put up a fight and try to win. Maybe a miracle will happen and he makes it through this and I get a few more years with him. Dogs can’t live with a lung lobe torsion right?

@@maricelahasson9939 That's a good question. I'm not sure if dogs can live with a lung lobe torsion. In Ollie's case, he was non-stop coughing up blood so in my mind, there was no other choice but surgery.
