i really like how the mod gives u unique arenas to fight on instead of forcing the player to make one of their own
That's my favorite part. Makes boss fights so fun and unique feeling.
As someone who never looks forward to making arenas, I agree.
It's interesting because it means you're being forced to fight on the enemies terms, not your own.
i feel like thats probably the worst part of the mod, terraria is all about taking challenges on your own terms and everything about this mod just kinda shits all over everything terraria is, its very weird that this is a mod for terraria at all since its so at odds with the game and clearly has a ton of work behind it, it kinda seems like a massive waste that its not its own game.
@@linkhidalgogato it’s not a vanilla tweaks mod tho. Its supposed to feel brand new. You can still do the classic “build your own arena” thing with the other bosses and cheese wins but that isn’t challenging at all.
If the bosses in prehardmode are this good I’m excited for the bosses in hardmode
I’m genuinely scared to see what the Hardmode bosses will be like.
@@timebladetbh I’m scared but also excited it’s the fear of how hard the fights might get considering I’m a player who doesn’t usually have to learn every pattern to fight most bosses like I feel I would here but also really excited cause of the quality and the desire to improve it gives me
did they only release bosses in prehardmode?

Hardmode with Starlight River is gonna be so hard but also so cool.
That Knight summon is so cool! That sword pogoing it does is something you can do in hollow knight, and actually is really useful way to avoid enemy attacks and get to places you otherwise couldn't.

I love how the one thing SLR devs chose to reference from HK was the specific ability that cheeses virtually everything
I actually thought of shovel knight when I saw it.
I think it's way too op as an early summon (I will say that I do not like mods that power scale immediately), but I REALLY love the design.

the pixel art is at the god tier level, i feel like he's playing terraria 2 already.
The amount of detail they've put in this is astounding. After fighting the giant calamari, whenever you pass the stained glass you can also see your reflection. It's crazy. The background is absolutely gorgeous
One thing they really need to add imo is tree variations for their custom trees. It often really annoys me that they all have that same hole in the same spot. The mod overall is so beautiful tho
Lmfao only terraria fans think it’s reasonable to use “not enough tree variety” as a genuine criticism/suggestion for a mod that overhauls the game

@@spimbles I think it's more telling of the quality of the mod when tree variation is the standout issue, as opposed to broken items, bosses, etc., but pop off, I guess.

Starlight river is the perfect mix between Thorium’s polish and Calamity’s awesomeness.

The smooth lighting and the decoration is incredible.
Nobody takes notice on how detailed the backgrounds are in the mod either,

He also did point them out, right after he entered the world. The amount of minute detail and special effects and new mechanics is gonna absolutely revolutionize molded terraria. It's gonna be for 1.4 what calamity was for 1.3. Absolutely mind-blowing.
I knew immediately what the pale nail was referencing when you mentioned it. I am surprised it summoned The Knight and not like, an actual summon from that game. Cool that he pogos enemies though!
All I needed to see was the Palenail and its summon's attacks to see how much love and care this mod has. I gotta check this out!

@@angycucumber4319 I’m sure you probably are doing this but just in case. Get the Elysian aegis or something like it. It will aloe you to ram enemies and not take damage so you can easily dodge the head. It was the only way I can see to beat infernum DoG
Just like another commenter mentioned, I knew it was going to be a HK vessel sommon once I heard it was a nail haha. I love that game.
Something that I'm loving about Starlight River is because is not a Tohou epileptic experience 😊
Ikr? Bullet hell bosses can be fun and all but variety and mechanics are nice to see too
when this mod gets finished its going to be a blast
I feel like this is what a sequel should feel like. It expands and iterates on everything great about Terraria. And it looks amazing.
vitrialic pickaxe before was bugged
description says that it heats up as you mine hellstone which makes it mine faster
but seems like in code they made it so as it heats up
the use time increases
which actually makes the use of the weapon slower

I don’t know if anybody has pointed this out but the hot spring that healed you was also a reference to hollow knight, areas that heal you in that game as well
I knew the mods presentation was spot on, when I noticed you were reflected in the background glass after beating the giant squid.
I heard the pale nail and Knew is had to be hollow knight related (they use nails as swords)

I feel like the terraria devs need to partner with the people making this mod. The bosses are so polished that it almost seems like a sequel to terraria. Very excited to see what the rest of the game will look like!

Given that u said that you are trying out more summoner here is a tip.
Most pre hardmode minions use local i-frames meaning if u use 2 frogs on a test dummy u will have the same dps as if u were to use 1 frog so it is better to mix minions test it on deerclops with 2 attempts of using only vampire frogs and one using other minions mixed (like 1 frog, 1 imp, 1 hornet, 1 flinx)
Didn't they remove that in an update?

AFAIK frogs still use the old immune frames though.
I went summoner in this mod as well and actually had a lot of fun. So many new summons and whips with unique effects that make summoner playable. The lifestealing and max life reducing one you get pre-wof is super powerful.
The story of red cloud though it may not be the most ambitious mod is definitely the most ambitious moddest experience been playing it again a year after with my brother who hasnt played it before gonna be a fun one

That Hot Spring you found is also a reference to Hollow Knight. There are many of them in the game and you can use them to heal :)
i mean, hot springs healing isn't just hollow knight, it's a common trope

Redigit should hire these guys to work on terraria 2.
That's an awesome idea to ask Red to add. A default attack weapon slot.
If you hold either nothing or you're for example holding a pickaxe. But you swing out of reach. Then the attack activates by default.
Imagine running out of mana or ammo. Then this would be really useful in a stressful situation.

This mod looks incredible, as it always does.
Once they start adding hardmode stuff, I honestly think a Ceiros refight would be super cool. Its already such a movement-heavy fight, id love to see that turned up even higher in hardmode once the player has good access to wings and even flight mounts

This mod is absolutely incredible and actually just changes the entire game. My SINGLE complaint: It relies so heavily on visuals and graphics that my dinky-ahh computer can't run it at faster than 2 FPS.
Thanks for playing! We weren't sure if the Slime Prince set not dropping was a bug or not, but you might've just got unlucky - it's supposed to be a 50/50 drop rate!

All I gather from this is that we need a Chippy Hollow Knight playthrough.
kinda wish we had a more linear/streamlined terraria with more gameplay/bosses like this
total freedom is fun, but the game giving us well and pre-thought out ways to interact with their worlds/enemies/bosses is cool

God this mod looks beautiful. I finally started modded and beat calamity. Can’t wait to try this later
yooooo the hollow knight pet actually fights like you would in hollow knight, he hits enemies and then steps back, or he pogos on their head to deal damage
I love how creative terraria mods are, but at this point shouldn’t these mod developers make them their own game entirely. Seriously, I feel like if there was some way to convert those really cool mods into their own games there’d be a lot of potential.
Although this is mainly coming from the me that can’t play modded since I use console 😢
This is a very common thought - making a game is significantly more time intensive and difficult. The benefit of modding is to not have to make a full new game lol
they are rare but if you bring a gnome into the sunlight you get a garden gnome that when placed actually buffs your luck

Very neat mod. The visuals are nothing like Terraria, and that's good. Looks like a much more modern 2d RPG.
Even more excited for this now that magic storage is ported to the same version, I wanted to check it out a few months back and they were only on separate versions and I can’t deal with regular chests anymore lmao
This genuinely looks almost like a Terraria sequel. The visuals are very flashy and almost not "Terraria-like" but they are not extremely out there that it feels completely detached from the original "feel" of the game, which is exactly what most good sequels are like. I really like the extra emphasis on bosses as well, considering that in the base they are the ones directly tied to each "stage" of the playthrough.

You should try Homeward Journey. Maybe a playthrough with both Starlight River AND Homeward Journey on chippy's couch?
If terraria makes a sequel, I truly hope they get these guys on board and give them free reign.
i really hope they do what calamity did and have post moonlord content as well, its very easy to overclutter terraria's existing progression stages

hey im sure youve been asked about infernum a bunch already but whats happening with it ive been loving the series keep up the good work much love
The biggest problem that I have, is it seems like the creators don't really know what they want to do with the mod. Most of their updates come every two months+, and they usually add one or two new things. I know making a full extended content mod is hard, but I still think about how it's been in the works for 4 years and still only have like 50 new weapons
idrk they might need a bigger team working on it, because at the moment it feels like they are just sleeping on this mod
I'm not a huge Terraria player so maybe I'm out of touch on this one, but honestly I feel like focusing on extra weapons and items and such feels like a waste. The game has plenty of those as it is. The highlight of this mod, by far, not even close, is the boss fights. So just focus on the boss fights. Slap a couple unique drops on the bosses to justify killing them and that's enough. No need for random new items on old bosses and craftables and stuff. That feels like someone procrastinating the hard stuff by adding the easy stuff up front.
Former developer here. I can't speak on the current team, but with school, work and other projects, on top of being a naturally slow mod to develop, this isn't a choice they have. From what I know/remember, they do have a pretty clear goal, it just takes a ton of time to get there.

@@AidanWR I'm sure they could update more, but knowing when to spoil content and release updates is very important. If their updates are really small, an announcement of "Still working!" isn't all that helpful imo. Plus, it's a volunteer project, so it's not consistent.

starlight river is so good that when you add the mod, it doesnt feel like playing modded terraria. it feels like you're playing terraria and a different game at the same time

I have a critique, being that since the bosses in this mod are so good it makes the terraria ones not fit in (don’t know how that happened), I think they should update the terraria bosses in the mods to compensate for that
By running that mod on your PC you can replace your heating in winter.
The Hot Spring minibiome is my new favorite place to put a base.

This mod feels like a Full blown Terraria DLC.
This is actually the greatest mod I've seen for any game
I think calamity is greater because its close to being as large as the game itself but i also think when starlight river is finished that one is gonna be truly the best
Yeah fair, I suppose its more accurate to say that this mod has more potential than any other that I've seen
Calamity is bigger but a lot of it's content is really badly designed.
The mod just breaks when the bird guy shows up.
I'm a summoner lover... I'm currently playing The Stars Above+CalamityMod as a summoner
you know with the crazy mechanics they are adding to these early bosses and accessories, i am pretty sure they will have endgame items that allow you to time travel or some other crazy stuff. These devs are not afraid of, actually no, they are OBSESSED with challenging themselves.

This mod is so cool, and exhilarating, but most of all, it's beautiful. I don't play PC, I would just to play this mod. I find Terraria mods a bit too tacky but this is some next level mod. This mod may become the Aether of Terraria, the mod that inspires all other mods.
Relogic should just buy Starlight River, hire the devs and call it Terraria 2, give them the funding to make this it's own game

Do you know of any mod that moves the info to the top of the screen, between the hp/mana bars?
