Village life in Romania

  • At least once a year I try to visit my grandmother that lives in Romania.
She lives in a small village called Popesti and its surrounded by a river and mountains. They still drive carriages with horses, collect water from the well and the roads are unpaved.
This time I visited the village with questions. Does everybody feel the same serenity that I feel? Or maybe its just a fairy-tale that I created in my mind because I am here for just a short time and then I will leave again.
I believe this video will make you experience the authentic life of Romania through the stories and feelings of locals.

People hardly look up anymore and just sit there and interact with people and just talk to them. I feel sorry for his Grandmother, that she is so much alone. I have relatives in Hungary and an uncle used to go to Romania in the Hargita district to visit friends that live there. Unfortunately I have never had the possibility to go with him. In my opinion Romania has the most beautiful nature in whole Europe. The villages, mountains, the different cultures mixed together, the historical heritage that is present there is something incredible.
I hope that villages like Popesti never change and keep their beauty. The nature there is something that has to be cherished and protected.
Romania is a beautiful country with great people and has a great future ahead of itself. The economy is growing and there will come a time when Romanians that are currently abroad for work will go back because the economy will be booming. I live in Belgium and see this already happening with the polish workers here in Belgium. A lot of them are going back as the difference in living standard between Poland and the west is much smaller than it was 10 years ago. This difference will become smaller and smaller with time.
Romania is really beautiful and I am looking forward to visit the country after the whole covid situation is behind us.
    I wish everyone good health.

I lived in Seoul for about 1.5 years. Then I moved to Daegu for 1.5 years, and had a _much_ better experience. Also, I traveled extensively and found some quaint places in S. Korea. My favorite was Ulong-do, an island off the east coast. 25 years ago it was still very traditional and friendly. Hope it's not developed today! I hiked the entire perimeter of the island. It took 3 days, and I slept in little yogwans in small fishing villages. It was fantastic! Experiences like this will give you a whole new appreciation of Korea. BTW, I am an American woman and I spoke just "survival" Korean. I traveled solo throughout the country. Don't wait to find someone to travel with. I met many westerners who never left Seoul the whole time they lived in SK. So sad because the country is so much more than Seoul! The place is beautiful and it seems the land is good to plant herbs, fruits & vegetables. Sadly, many people do not realize the importance of learning and living the lives their parents once lived when it comes to farming or gardening! A place like this can give the family more food than expected if you are wise.
Breaks my heart to see this woman all alone. However, I'm proud to see that she is busy with her hobbies which is important to keep her mind busy as well as her physical body!
May someone in her immediate family realize she is lonely and may need their company more often.

I'm an African, and your gran's village looks almost like my grand parents village, no goats though, but with the cow and chicken running around, and the toilet outside, the green vegetation, the valleys etc.
The difference is that, no one lives alone in my grand parents village. Their children who are abroad or moved to the cities, either leave grand children with them, or other extended family members live with the elderly, no 85 years old will be left to live on her own.
I also noticed the absence of children's laughter and dance, and in my opinion, lack of second and third generation to take care of the elders, is worse than any form of lack, and this loneliness is widespread in Europe and America, whereas Africans, Asians and most middle easterners do all they can to live with their elders.
    I wish them all well.
