- In the furthest eastern corner of Romania, along the border to Ukraine, the River Danube flows into the Black Sea. It splits into three large tributaries, between which countless lakes and waterways form the largest reed bed in Europe - the Danube Delta.
It is a remote life and many areas can only be reached by boat, a reason why there is no industry here. Most of the people that live here are self sufficient and live off whatever the Delta or their own gardens offer.

I've been there, born and raised till 14 in a village of no more than 1000 people. Life is hard, cannot deny it, because you don't have many servicies and you have to be auto sufficient, but it gives you something more than the city. It gives you the love for the nature, when year after year u eat apples from the same tree your grandfather planted years ago. The same feeling covers you when you and your friends gather together with just a knife and some ropes, make your own bows, and go to catch wild rabbits, that you will eat on the spot.
Now I'm 21, i've been in Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, but nowhere is like at home. Yes, in the cities i learned a shit load of things, from biochemistry and physics to psychology and philosophy but, no matter how much i learn, and how much i change over time, i just can't take that life style out of my hearth. It's just a matter of what we've learned to value the most, in the city, is money, in the rural is life.

The reason we are miserable is exactly as you say, we have "everything" yet have nothing or rather, no one. Family and friends don't connect like they used to, we don't live close to them as we used to. I miss my cousins, my aunts, my uncles and grandparents. Several are dead but the ones who are alive may as well be. I have a big family on both sides and we were all close until now. Work, internet has changed us is and not for the better. My happiest memories are of my young years running with my cousins.

I’d happily live like this. I’m use to hard work, long hours, no vacations. I’d love to know where my food comes from and live a simple life with a man I love. No outside influences to ruin things. This is the life. In my opinion. May god continue to bless these people.

This is Roumania, but I'm afraid people like them become very rare to find. Young people choose to left behind an entire tradition. Most of the villages are like Letea, and we are lucky because we still have grannies wich can tell us about our history, beautiful souls. My dear country, we never forget you!

Gothic-Renaissance Baroque ?where is the Dacian-Romanian nobility ?? citizenship ?? After 260 there is no stable state..while for a short while the HUN empire .../ 450-453 /.......to the Avar empire...600-820....after avars from 900-950 Hungarians .....here is no Romanian-speaking population in Transylvania until the 13th century....there are no daco roman cemeteries and other evidence from 260 to 1250's...after the Mongol invasion they move in first from Moldavia and Wallachia because the labor force had to work for the Hungarian nobles ....besides, Saxons will be installed in the South Transylvania by the Hungarian kings in the 13th century ...but there is still no Romanian nobility .......the next big migration wave it is in the 17-18th centuries because of Turkish wars ...the middle of the 18th century the proportion of Romanians is over 50% because in the Romanian families 8-10 children are born , for the Hungarian Catholics 4-5 .... but for the Reformed people 1-2 ...in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-49 Transylvania and the Partium the Rumanians are making genocidium alongside the Russians so the proportion of Hungarians is decreasing even more ...in Transylvania../ 1850 ..35 % ../ german -saxon 10% /..roman 55 %.... the next big migration after 1920 .... and in the 1960s ....from moldva-vallachia / 1 mill person /....and after the First World War 1,000 Hungarian schools, nursery schools were closed...and so violently assimilated many Hungarians.....so migration from the 13th century to the 1960s ..... and assimilation......however, there is no Daco-Romanian state in Transylvania 260 ---- from the Romans ---- until 1920, trianon .... lies in Romanian schools for 200 years ...

A very nice insight into the lives of these villagers indeed. Many people tend to romanticize this kind of lifestyle looking from the outside in, but it is tough. If you don't work, then you don't eat. These are a hearty and hard working people indeed. I can only begin to imagine just how difficult it must have been for their ancestors to survive with the Nazi German and Communist Soviet hordes marauding and marching all over their lands, when one day you are Ukrainian and the next you are Romanian. I am happy that at least they have found some measure of peace in their lives. Cheers to one and all.
JockBaloney / in WW2 Romania had a fascist regime, thanks to the Soviet Union Romania implemented socialism which built up the majority of what you see in Romania today. By 1958 the Soviet troops exited Romania and it was the opposite of what you said. One day the Romanians living in Southern Bassarabia and Northern Bukovina suddenly were incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR. Romanias population under socialism never decreased unlike nowadays where Romanians are moving west and the population is decreasing year after year.

The only bad thin the Soviets did to Romania was occupy two parts and divide the Moldovans from the collective of Romanians from Transylvania and Wallachia. The Romania was once a proud country, self sufficient with a plan for a better future. Today the country has stagnated and its people leave. Quit trying to blame everything on others, capitalism has been restored in Romania for nearly 30 years and the country is doing bad. Moldova is even worse
The 'only' bad things? How about mentioning the hundreds of thousands of Romanians deported to Siberia to work in their gulags? How about mentioning the countless Romanians that died as political prisoners in some of the worst prisons in Europe? How about mentioning the complete annihilation of the Romanian intellectual class that pretty built the modern day state of Romania and contributed tremendously to our political, social, economical and artistic life?

Not to mention that they robbed the country for 20 years of its assets, taking entire factories with them into Russia, forcing us to make mixed enterprise companies with Soviet and Romanian capital as a mean to rob 50% of our agricultural and industrial production in the 1950s.
The less we speak about the intentionally provoked famine in Bessarabia between 1944 and 1946 the better. Or if we go way back in the past, up until this day they did not give up the over 90 tones of gold part of our treasury which we deposited with them in 1916.
A proud country? What was so proud about being occupied and milked dry by the Soviets? What was so proud about being a country in debt, with a barely functional economy and with a quasi-famine in the 1980s? You think that people did not want to leave during the communist regime? Plenty of them left, just that now borders are open, back then leaving the country meant that you need to pass them illegally and it was risky, as you could get killed by border guards patrolling near the border. Cut the crap please!
The main reason why Romania is suffering today is because the Soviets got their filthy hands on this country in 1944. Everything that we experience today is a result of that wretched day. Today, it is the sons of the former soviet agents that rule Romania, and they are getting ready to pass the torch to a new generation. If the Soviet's were taking half the Romanian economy there would be no way the population would've consistently gone up as well as industry and infrastructure. Most the buildings you see today in Romania were built by the socialist regime, before socialism Romania was a backwards mostly agrarian country. Both sets of my Great Grandparents came from small fishing villages in Croatia...this is what I imagine their life was like before their lives were torn up from wars. They came to the US, and now I feel like I would be so blessed to live this sweet simple life. I’m self employed, long hours, only vacation in 12 years was 6 years ago...I’m thankful, but know this life would be ok for me an my husband!

Good watch but I need to comment to correct some info about the ethnical background of these people. They are not migrant ukrainians. In romanian we call them “lipoveni” or “lipoveni russians”. It’s a group that settled in the Delta in the 17 th century I believe and they speak an archaic russian dialect. They are old rite orthodox christians and most of them (even the younger ones who left the Delta) know their language still. They also keep their customs when it comes to church, appearance (especially the older people) and methods of building. That cerulean blue that keeps popping in the video (the shop is partially painted in it) is specific to this region.

They are very hard working yet simple people, they speak Russian and only marry between each other to keep purity in their DNA’s, they usually work in the fields, their cabbage is known to be the best in Armenia, they appeared in Armenia in 1834. Also by the way, the ending of this video was really touching with the man picking up his wife from work on his tractor, that’s so cute, 20 years passed by and they still seem to be in love with each other😊❤️
But they were all speaking in Romanian. My grandparents ran for their lives from the other side of the last border change, during WW2. From the city of Reni and Ismail (formerly part of Turkish empire). But yes, the Lipoveni and Romanians have always gotten along well, despite wars initiated by other people from much farther away.

I live in a big city in Romania, it's busy, i spend a lot of time on my phone on yt, twitter etc, my mind feels polluted and i get tired easily.
But when i go in villages like this i barely get any phone signal, there's no tv, no malls, people are simple. Its just you and nature, it becomes very terapeutic.
This country has a place for everybody and i like that..
Alright! Then move to countryside and stay there. It would better for everyone than sniffing and complaining about “how you wanna live there”. Then do it.
There is no time to get bored.. Wow I love that.
