  • Out with the old and in with the old...
    Today I'm swapping in a new gauge cluster on our 1995 Ford F150. We had a few broken parts and everything was dirty as heck but it worked great. Remember 1992-1993 are slightly different wiring than 1994-1995 but will physically fit/swap in your OBS with wiring pin location changes. While we were in there we swapped out the 194 bulbs to LED's.

    Thanks for the tutorial man, my speedometer had decided it doesn’t like participating in normal driving, appreciate it.

      No worries buddy! Glad you enjoyed it. VSS sensor or the tone ring itself shit the bed

    Code 452 (Vehicle speed signal - incorrect signal) on a 97 F450 that I just purchased. After trial and error, I believe the psom to be causing shifts issues. Just happened to find a perfect condition cluster out of a 95 f150 for free in my deceased father's junk yard. (Passed away last fall) He had hording issues. The only difference between the two clusters is that a single resistor has a different ohm value. I will swap the psom and keep my original cluster. I have been watching hours of YT to find a fix for my problem. After watching two days of 10 year old videos, it's nice to see some current content.

      did this ever work? pretty sure you need a 96 or 97 cluster to put in a 97 not a 95 cluster

      i suppose psom is identical after all

    I did my swap but for some reason my oil pressure gauge doesn’t register until I hit my dash it climbs until it maxes out so idk how to fix that. Also I swapped a v8 cluster to my I-6 but everything else works great

    Is there a fix for the Volt Meter guage not working ? Mine doesnt seem to be identifying the correct voltage but when I tap it it will slowly rise to the correct voltage (14.4v) even if I continue to take it woke go higher. Because my head unit can display the volts also it seems somewhat accurate but i still want to fix

    I got a tach cluster out of a 95 I6 f150. What would happen if i installed in my 95 351 f250?

    I had question about the swap. I see you kept the original speedometer for the mileage. Can you swap out just the odometer onto a different speedometer? The reason I ask is I’m using a gen 1 Lightning cluster. Would like to keep the vehicle mileage but use the 120 mph speedometer. Hopefully that made sense, any feedback would be appreciated.

      Ok I know exactly what you’re throwing down. I asked a few friends and none of them have attempted to swap the odometer out of the PSOM module. But I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be - I would also just consider sending it off to get programmed for your mileage and tire size while it’s out!

    If you need to change out your Speedo pod what do you have to do to make it work in your truck? Do you have to call Ford? Is that what you said? Would give details of what the process is?

    Do you know if this works for OBS F250s? I found a 96 F150 cluster for my 97 F250HD

    does the color of the circuit board matter ? like swapping a green cluster with one with a red circuit board ?

    • @MatthewFinlay
      @MatthewFinlay  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Funny you mention that. I just saw someone post the other day comparing them and asking why they were different. From what I saw the were identical in wiring/traces but different numbers. Best anybody could figure was Ford had multiple suppliers and didn’t stipulate the plastic film cover. I’ve swapped them without issue as long as they match year ranges and engine size.

      @@MatthewFinlay hmmm interesting. i appreciate the quick response. I’ve heard once or twice about this and the guy specified how the films should match color (green with green, red with red) but i never really thought that was true. But like you said, if the years and motor size match it should be plug and play. So you went from green film to red ? Did you have any issues with anything ?

      It’s also possible it’s for options that some trucks have - nobody had a clear answer except that they wire and trace out the same. Which is my experience too. FYI - teccccchhhhnically you can swap years that shouldn’t swap if you re-pin the harness to match that cluster. I haven’t personally done that but I have seen it done! Lord knows why Ford made those running changes

      @@MatthewFinlay ahah ain’t that the truth !! I actually was able to find one on marketplace from a bronco that is the same year and motor as my f150 so fingers crossed with how she goes 🫣

    So it's literally that simple?
    Get one with a tacometer and swap your speedo onto it?
    No need for any extra stuff?
    Why ford not put the tacometer in the first place?

    • @MatthewFinlay
      @MatthewFinlay  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes sir! Just make sure to match the cylinder numbers or you’ll run into it reading slightly wrong. Aka 6 cylinder engine needs the 6 cyl. mark on turn circuit board. If you don’t get a cluster in the same compatible range as your truck year you’ll have to do some re-pinning. That’s when stuff gets weird… If you look on EBay you’ll see that the good sellers will already have the listed correctly of 94-95 for instance.
