Glad to see people save these old trucks. Good call on replacing distributor cap, rotor. Check coil. And replace gas tank and sending unit. When these trucks sit for a long time these parts go bad. I bought 83 f150. Barely ran. Sat for decades. I initially changed oil. Put on a new gas tank. Distributor parts. And fired it up and ran beautifully. Drive it all the time.
Nice project. I always appreciate see how to approach a restore like this. I have a 68 suburban that has been sitting on my property since I parked it 20 years ago. I keep telling myself I’m going to get it going again.
I bought a 1988 F250 extended cab long bed diesel version of this truck 3 years ago. It had been sitting for about 8 years when I got it. She's a good runner.
I'm getting my father's 0:50 truck after my uncle hid it for 10 years. Im very excited to have it byt lord its gonna need some work. Im 24 and only have basic knowledge on cars so this is going to be an adventure
I am getting ready to bring my dad's 90 F150 home. Still runs. Straight 6. 5 speed. 300k + miles. They don't make em like they used to. Hope to see a Pt 2 real soon. ✌️🐯
got the same truck except mine is a 302 4x4 5 spd manual. i am currently rebuilding the top end. it had blown head gaskets and a burned valve and it is 40 miles away from me so I can only work on it a little at a time. but it was only 300 bucks and I drove it home from the guys house at night with no lights.
8:26 You can buy small cone-shaped wire brushes for cleaning out corrosion from inside of the lead terminal-clips so that you can get better connections on the battery-posts. Often, these brushes come with an "opposite"-configured --- i.e., a hollow cup with inward-facing bristles --- brush for burnishing the battery-posts themselves, so that you can clean both sets of matching connections with the same device. :D
LOL I love his "for those of you without flags on the Moon" expression at around the one-minute mark --- I Googled it with no luck, but then I chucklingly realized that he'd simply meant that he was talking to the non-American viewers. :D :P
Always good to lube cylinders before cranking when it sits that long. Also this is my favorite body style of Ford, I have two of them, both '91s, but have the chrome grille and chrome headlight trim.
That should've been done and disconnect the fuel line then run it on an auxiliary fuel supply until the tank can be cleaned out. I have a 1988 F250 extended cab long bed 7.3 diesel, I bought a couple of years ago that had been sitting.
I’ve got the same truck dude. Well not exactly the same. Yours has a fancy black stripe thing down each side. But mine is an 87 custom. Even the same color, I think they call it medium fire red. Yours was in a little worse shape than mine. But when mine didn’t start I went straight to the neutral safety switch. Fixed her right up. Runs like a top. These 4.9‘s are indestructible. Some jack ass spray painted my whole hood so right now I’m cleaning a big red cookie sheet with oven cleaner. Works pretty good to remove the spray paint, but takes a 10 gallon barrel of elbow grease. If you have any tips let me know buddy. Mine just hit the road two weeks ago. No complaints. Keep up the good work and the posts. Can’t wait to see what this puppy turns into.
These 7th (80-86) and 8th (87-91) gen F150's are fastely becoming a popular platform as daily driver custom/street trucks because they one of the few classic you can still buy that are running and riving or could be for next to nothing for 2k or cheaper. The 300 is a great engine by itself but a 302 is a direct swap because they use the same motor mounts are the same and most of the wiring loom is the same.
@@danbailey96 Parts availablity in the future, that's why, Sure 300 parts are available now but what about 5 years from now? Plus a 302 swap has alot more horsepower and are cheaper, you can can to any bone yard and pick up a 302 and tranny for $500. A 302 swap is more bang for your buck.
300 4.9 is truly a work horse. You can't kill that motor why no timing chains its all gears. If you just freshen up the gaskets and do your oil change on time you can get million mile out of it
This was an awesome video you deserve way more subscribers. I was just looking today at a 1993 f150, different body style but i think this video is gonna make me do the unthinkable 😅
Great vid, but laying on the starter like that can burn it out after a while, not like they’re delicate or anything, but I burnt up a starter doing exactly what you did
i have a 1988 f150 that i cant figure out. I am getting fuel pressure to the fuel rail, but it will not start unless i put quickstart down the air intake. The injectors, relatively new, are not working?? I already tried the relays and searched for lose or corroded grounds, i dont think that is it. I am leaning toward a bad computer?? Any ideas?
4:59 Of course, you would need to also see whether the odometer has the "seventh digit" --- i.e., hundred-thousands-place --- disk, since if it doesn't, the entire indicators-bank could have already "rolled over" at least once, and so it might have actually been at least a HUNDRED and eighty thousand miles that the truck had traveled, but you would never know it, even if nobody had tampered with the odometer. :D
So this is my second time watching one of your videos. Am I reaching or am I hearing a lot of Bieri influence in your terminology? Either way, a guy can appreciate the entertainment value. 👍
This is 8mo old and I don't see the next update. It would be so bad to just watch you try and crank it with no power and basically not really do anything the whole video if you had the next one to actually see something being accomplished. Not a bad start, but definitely a crappy ending if you aren't going to make the next video. You should delete this one until you get it cranked. I did see your update saying it won't crank, but why have us sit through this one if it's pointless.
Just saved my grandad's 89 Lariat from an auction, how much do you guys think it'd cost to get something like this running 'safely'? She's been sitting for the better part of 20 years haha hope I didn't just delete my savings.
How much did you pay for it, i just talked to a gentleman and he has one just like that same story been sittin for a while behind his house he asked 6 hundred
Dude didn't pull the plugs and lube the cylinders after sitting for a decade 💀 those poor cylinders. Also doesn't understand that if cranking slows them wires are burning. Dude calls this a restoration 😂 it's more like a failed zip ties and bias plies cold start. You have sooo much to learn
I cannot agree more on the teenagers fucking these things up I just got one that had a cutout in the bed for a stack and it has some meaty tires on it and it was fully painted with rhino line super sad but I took the paint off and the stack off and I’m trying to save it right now! I’m 18 and not even I would spray paint the interior red 😢

“For those of you without flags on the moon” got me lol
same here 😂😂
I have this spinning truck please cause I have your master
Funny but did grind my gears alittle 😂

Thank you for taking such good care of my grandpas truck, glad it’s in good hands ❤
Just bought an 89 F150 with only 14k miles.
I’ve never worked on a Ford only chevys so I appreciate the video.
I still see a lot of those eighth generation Ford F-series pickups out on the roads today. They were produced from 1987 through 1991.
i bought a 1991 for $950 last year. I
LOVE THIS DAMN TRUCK!
Nice project. I always appreciate see how to approach a restore like this. I have a 68 suburban that has been sitting on my property since I parked it 20 years ago. I keep telling myself I’m going to get it going again.
It's like vice grip garage... Minus the talent, and comedy, and a subscription.
I bet you're fun at parties! Doing what I can to save these old trucks and cars, any support to the channel helps me keep them from the crusher.
@@GrumpyMonkeyGarage I’ll subscribe :)

I don't know why you would trade a 300 to a 302 300s are pretty much bullet proof and easily get 300 to 500 thousand miles if taken care of

What a wonderful intro.
found out there is a difference between a starter for an automatic and a starter for a manual
I'm building a 87 f150 shortbed love these trucks
I'm 19 and I have an old 1990 f150 that I keep in clean original condition and I love it to death
I have a 95 f150 with the 5.0 (302) with 330,400 miles original motor,Trans and rear end
I'm also in GA, looking to do my very first restore. Hope the wife doesn't kill me.
Always enjoy seeing you working on stuff, we need to get together sometime, so we can discuss our life choices.👍🤔😂😂😂 see you at the parts store soon.

Great , I just bought the same truck with the same color I think , Desert Tan ? Same mine has been sitting for years .

Doing a 12 minute introduction and getting the engine barely running is not a restoration. Stop with the bs click bait.
Love that bugger lol
great video
Thought you would do spark plugs and change gas and oil and lube the cylinders because turning over the engine.

just bought a 1997 f150 long bed but just found out today probably needs whole new frame because of rust. How outrageously expensive is that?
Find another 10th gen f150 with blown motor and good frame and swap em up.
Where do you find cars like these? Like did you hear about it on FaceBook Marketplace or Craigslist?
Word of mouth, I put my name out there as I'll buy anything, no matter how bad it is!

I got one a 93 f250 5.8 351w E4OD, 4x4 reg cab long box, 133xxx.
The rings are probably stuck spray pb blaster in the cylinders and I guarantee it’ll start i’ve ran mine without oil for weeks was just fine

my old 89 im trying to restore but YESH its alot, its a old 5.0
Any follow up on this ?
Got a follow up video coming out in a week or two
My 89 sounded the same on the start. Replaced ICM and cranked right up. Nice project to have.
There are so many channels out there trying to be vice grip garage. You are not Derrick bro.
Me being the teenage dushbag how wants to but big tires on it 🥸🤪🤦♂️😂😂😂😂😂
Dude, where is the update video?
It never got restored due to cost issues.
How much did you pay for it, i just talked to a gentleman and he has one just like that same story been sittin for a while behind his house he asked 6 hundred
I paid less, but I am a hunter for a cheap car, and as you see in part two, it was probably too much.
