  • Peter Byrne was a prominent figure in the field of cryptozoology, particularly known for his research on Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch. Born in Ireland, Byrne's early years were marked by a keen interest in wildlife and exploration, eventually shaping his career path.
In his early career, Byrne served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II. After the war, he ventured into the Himalayas, where he conducted expeditions in search of the Yeti, another legendary hominid creature. His interest in cryptids was not just limited to the Yeti; during these explorations, he first heard of Bigfoot, sparking a lifelong quest.
By the 1960s, Byrne had moved to the United States, drawn by the rich folklore and numerous sightings of Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest. He became one of the leading figures in Bigfoot research, dedicating his life to investigating sightings, collecting evidence, and advocating for the scientific study of the creature. Byrne's approach to Bigfoot research was methodical and scientific, contrasting the more sensationalist methods employed by some in the field.
Throughout his career, Byrne authored several books and articles on Bigfoot, contributing significantly to the popular and scientific discourse on the subject. He founded the Bigfoot Information Center and Exhibition in The Dalles, Oregon, which became a hub for Bigfoot research and attracted enthusiasts and skeptics alike.
Despite criticism and skepticism from mainstream science, Byrne remained steadfast in his belief in the existence of Bigfoot. He argued for the need for a more rigorous scientific investigation into the phenomenon, believing a biological basis existed for the sightings and reports.
Byrne's work in the field of cryptozoology, especially his research on Bigfoot, earned him a reputation as a dedicated and passionate researcher. His legacy continues influencing and inspiring those interested in studying unknown and legendary creatures.
Peter Byrne's life and work stand as a testament to the enduring human fascination with the unknown and the unexplained, and his contributions to Bigfoot research remain a significant part of the folklore and scientific inquiry surrounding this elusive creature.
We believe this interview was his last. Peter Byrne passed away at the age of 97 years old on July 28th, 2023. Peter will endure.

"Now I wonder why he's never had a sighting" I knew Peter Byrne since about 1971, when John Green, the Canadian who had written numerous books on the Bigfoot, introduced me to him. I have, naturally, read almost all of the books written by Byrne, so I think I know why he was not successful, in even seeing a Sasquatch. It is pretty obvious WHY he never had a sighting: Green said that he was using the Bigfoot search, only to support himself, through generous financial support from a number of wealthy supporters through the years, for the search. I have no idea if that is true, but, in learning about the long line of financial supporters he had, it is quite conceivable. If not, for sure, Byrne's hair brained ideas about how he was going to solve the mystery are largely responsible for his failure to solve it: He said, Get good pictures and good testimony from reliant professionals about sightings they made, etc. would prove it. HOGWASH, Byrne never learned a thing from the Patterson/Gimlin film footage, it never proved a thing to those who truly matter, the scientists. Byrne, the great Tiger hunting professional, understood Tigers and other animals in N India, and Nepal, but he never did truly understand the nature and behavior of these huge Giant Apes we call Bigfoot, so what Byne had been doing for years, looking for Bigfoot, was not correct for success.

Wonderful interview! So glad you all got to speak to him before he passed away.
The one thing that I would challenge in what Mr. Byrne said is that there are no reports of aggression toward humans, such as people being kidnapped. Those reports are very much present in both Indigenous American and European-American accounts.

    • @unropednope4644
      @unropednope4644 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

There are native American stories about young native girls possibly being abducted and impregnated by sasquatch yes but there's no way to verify if they are true and they probably aren't based on modern reports. I think Peter's referring to modern times rather than native American stories though and he's right. There's never been any credible reports of a bigfoot killing or abducting anyone except for albert ostman and those beings never harmed him. There's a ton of stories about evil bigfoots in alaska killing people or bigfoot eating humans but these stories are all ridiculous and easily debunked. John Green, who personally interviewed over 1600 witnesses wrote in his book "Sasquatch The Apes Among us" that he never heard one case of a bigfoot acting violent towards a witness. Nearly 100% witness sightings are peaceful with the bigfoot walking away after a few seconds. If these beings were dangerous to humans we'd see evidence of it in the missing persons and unexplained deaths in our forests statistics. Millions of tourists, hikers, campers, hunters backcountry hikers venture into the forests of North America every year and come out just fine. It's completely asinine to try and make a case that these beings are a threat to humans any more than black bears.

Indeed. I spent last evening reading old newspaper accounts 1860's-1930. There were many accounts of extreme aggression from SW Oregon, especially the headwaters of the Sixes River. Also three miners were allegedly killed near the Rouge River in Oregon. I also don't agree that the sightings are dwindling. All one needs to do is ask, in rural areas...the stories come pouring out. I had my own encounter on May 5th 1993, on the Bald Mountain trail in the Mt. Hood National Forest.

Exactly; hard to believe that Peter Byrne, of all people, thought that no bigfoot hair had been found, which makes one wonder what else he didn't know about this subject. My State Fish and Wildlife Biologist friend and I had two samples we gave to Dr, Farenbach (his name spelling is wrong, I am sure) to try to identify. One sample was given to us by Washington state police, who found it attached to top strand of barbed wire fencing, near where several people saw a bigfoot. The second sample we, my friend and I, found, following a bigfoot reports to our F&W Commission. We found then attached to brush, near bigfoot tracks we were studying. I, myself, kept a few strands from both locations, studying them under microscope, comparing them to known bear and other wild animals, dog hair, cattle hair, etc., even to samples of gorilla, chimpanzees, etc., given to me by Dr Farenbach, who worked with a Primate Center nearby. The alleged bigfoot hairs are much different from bear hair; not similar either, to any sample I had from various aforementioned animals. The bigfoot hairs I have, showed characteristics like human hair, AND characteristics that are Not human like human hair. Dr. Farenbach gave me his assessment, which pretty much was my assessment too, though he certainly knows much more than I, about hair. Interestingly too, they do not compare favorably with chimp or gorilla hair either. Go figure!

I believe there are sub sets, aggressive and dangerous through to peaceful. Just like humans I think it depends on location and surroundings. For example a human in a small farming town is drastically different than a human in the city or on say north sentinel island, all human, very different reception from outsiders...

This man just mentioned two species that fell to extinction. Here he is, a man who for years killed big exotic game and for years, took out people to kill leopards and lions and other magnificent species. That’s one aspect of this man. Here is a man who’s become an ‘expert’ and yet has not once seen a Bigfoot himself. I find this ironic. He sounds self important. For him to state that Bigfoot numbers are small and dwindling! I don’t buy it. I’ve listened to dozens upon dozens of people who’ve even said that big foot families have lived on their land for generations. I’ve also listened to, indigenous people who’ve stated that generations of family members have seen Bigfoot. Again, the ultimate irony for me is that this Bigfoot expert who’s listened to probably hundreds of people who’ve actually seen Bigfoot and scientists who are interested in the subject……and not once has this big game hunter seen a Bigfoot! Why didn’t he approach families who live in Bigfoot terrain and communicate with them all the time, and see if he could see a Bigfoot with them? Perhaps, just perhaps, Bigfoot sense that this man has killed who knows how many animals for the thrill of it and know to stay clear away from!

Great Interview 👍 I grew up in Rural Shasta County from 1962-68. Packed Hunted all over the deep wilderness of N CA. Packed up through OR & parts of WA. When the Gentleman stated Yes they Exist-but in very small numbers -I completely agree, and that has been my assessment for 50 years. The population was very very small back when Patterson/Gimlin’ filmed the Female in 1967’. And the population is still that way. Go back and read the small local newspaper accounts in those remote N CA Counties after Paterson filmed the female on Bluff Creek! That tiny group of Sasquatch was probably 3-4 adults and 3-4 young in that entire swath below the Oregon border! The local newspaper archive sightings from that region after fall of 1967’ were a few accounts south towards Trinity’ County and surrounding areas. That small family population was uprooted from the Bluff creek area and was looking for a new area. I suspect that small family group ended up in remote Southern OR just North of the CA border. There’s probably only a few small family groups one possibility in N CA. Maybe 2-3 in OR. Maybe 2-3 in WA. Possibly 1 in N Idaho and a few scattered in British Columbia! All the Nonsense of Sasquatch in all these other regions is hype.

Holy cow, he's a WWII vet? He has to be one of the very last. I am still perplexed by this channel's name - Flash of Beauty? Based on my one experience with these beings, I wouldn't say there's any beauty involved, only serious strangeness. If what he is saying about their 'benevolence' is true, does this mean all the reports of their attacking people, dogs, property, etc are all untrue? What about the reports modern and not of these beings kidnapping women and children? Is he ignoring the evidence that doesn't fit with his belief system? No lights? So is Ron Morehead and imagining things or a liar? I doubt it. He also apparently doesn't think the Freeman footage is credible, he seems to completely disregard it.

Have you seen all the other videos that use “chilling”, “terrifying”, and many other sensationalist words? They’re such a contrast to this channel. On AFOB you hear so much reverence, awe of BF beauty, gratefulness. Why is that?
Americans are sensationalist in nature it seems, but this channel relies more on a Native American perspective. The other channels seem to focus on the Midwest or rural eastern states.
Do you think the BF populations’ cultures are different? One being more violent, maybe because they’ve been negatively affected by Americans wanting to torture them by stalking them or prove masculine strength and mount their heads on the wall.
If you think I’m off the wall, I’ll even go further. Maybe we who support the AFOB perspective can convince the other channels and their viewership to lighten up, put less pressure on the BF and maybe develop a nicer relationship with their forest neighbors.
