I weaned myself off Pregabalin (and other pain drugs) a few years ago as I too felt that it was destroying my ability to function properly.
I felt exactly the same panics ,sweats, palpitations and anxiety as my doses were increased by the doctor for my pain. I knew I had to come off it so very slowly I did the same as this lady ,by opening each capsule and decreased the amounts in each dose.
I also weaned myself off Tramodol and Codamol which are also highly dependent drugs.
I'm now free of these 'heavy' pharmaceuticals .

Both are addicted, requiring reduced doses. Heroine causes the same physical dependent symptoms. PG are the same. I know people who buy, sell, and use them only to get high. All have a dependancy on it.

@robyncownway1286 it's not anywhere near the same. I use prescribed fentanyl patches for pain and, whilst my body is now physically addicted to fentanyl (meaning I start to experience withdrawal symptoms after approx. 3 hours if I forget to put a patch on), I don't crave fentanyl in my mind - I'm not obsessing over it or when I'm going to get my next dose, nor do I misuse my medication

I’m Australian and was prescribed this medication about 8 yrs ago for Peripheral Neuropathy in my feet caused by Systemic Lupus. I started to take it, got up one night to go to the loo, and my legs would not work properly and wouldn’t do what I was trying to do, which was walk. Rang my neurologist and he told me to stop immediately. I have heard of it being abused but don’t understand as it never made me feel good, it made me feel awful and uncoordinated.

I was prescribed pregabalin and gabapentin ( at separate times ) for severe Fibromyalgia, each made me very, worryingly forgetful, so I stopped taking them. Problem with any medication is that they are "not a one size fits all". Need more investigation into the side effects of the jab as well.

    • @jennytaylor3324

I have moderate fibro. Awful, aint it. A young, honest and genuinely kind doctor casually offered me Pregabalin as an alternative to Valium (which I was only taking in 2-6mg doses about once a week!) I went away, did research, and discovered that Pregabalin was causing much trouble in prisons, had the tendency to send people loopy, and had quite a street value. I informed him, and he was open to my findings, I'll give him that. However, these doctors are playing with fire, as even they don't really know what they're pushing on behalf of the drug companies. As you say, drugs are not a 'free size' thing. Best case scenario is you're going to get dependent on them, and I've never found a pharmaceutical that has healing properties! I've come to see that nature holds most of what we're likely to need, if we'd only look. In the West we've lost touch with its power.

If I am even late with a dose I also sweat profusely to a point where I am so wet I need to change my clothes. Now I want to get off it and try prescribed cannabis which has no side effects. I have tried cannabis but did not like the smell the taste & the feeling during the day. But would definitely give it another go. I’m in a number of pain & nerve pain meds. I can barely walk due to the pain. My quality of life has really been affected. I’m now 55 & cannot work any longer. It’s horrendous. I do really worry about side effects but then if I didn’t have the pain meds I would literally live on my bed with no life whatsoever. 🤦‍♀️ what to do for the best is just a nightmare. DO NOT BAN THIS DRUG! OMG, it's already difficult enough getting decent medication in the UK, compared to say, USA. This is the only drug that has controlled my thinking & concentration when talking with others. Without this I struggle to talk to anyone because of being so anxious & my thoughts uncontrollably racing & getting away from me. Not that it was prescribed for this, but it has had no effects on any types pain, no difference felt whatsoever. I'm sorry for anyone who hasn't had the best of experiences with this drug, but DO NOT try to stop others from getting it because of your own side effects. I know many people who are on it & they too are fine, it's benefits outweighing the risks. Stop it being used as a street drug & a recreational drug, yes! By all means! But not as a prescribed, controlled drug whilst under medical guidance!

Pregabalin is probably one of the worst medications I have been prescribed. Pretty much everyone I know who has ended up on it has ended up heavily addicted then dependent. Most began getting it prescribed for a genuine reason and ended up building a tolerance and enjoying the “high” so much that they can’t get off it. I was originally prescribed it for anxiety. It made me feel terrible-I would jerk, twitch and began to badly stutter along with other odd physical feelings. My Drs upped the dosage. I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I found it triggered seizures for me but my Dr decided it was an excellent idea to up my dosage again to treat it. Even as someone who had an opiate addiction and misused other substances throughout life this one I just could not tolerate. I refused to take it and luckily either did not suffer strong withdrawals or was so happy to not have its negative side effects that those withdrawals were more of a relief. I’ve heard from those who do tolerate them and even enjoy them that they withdrawals are horrendous…worse than opiate withdrawal and that has came from heroin addicts experience. Like opiates, pregabalin were/are given out way too easily.

It wasn’t an easy decision and was hell getting my body off that too, but as I had pain and all the side effects too I did it to try and be me again. You are not told about the ways your body comes to depend on these drugs or how they will affect you while on them, but more importantly what you go through detoxing while coming off them. Have you ever tried to get something from NHS? They don't give you anything unless you are about to die.
Most of the medication people are prescribed is paid by NHS. Only adult with stable income pay for their prescription. Children, disabled people, and people on benefits do not pay. Therefore, NHS would have to pay from their own pocket.

After being on it for many years I decided to stop taking it. I was horrified at the side effects that came with it. Terrible pins and needles in my hands and feet, stabbing electric shock type pain. Restless legs at night, and the worst was complete insomnia. It took me over a year to come off, and a year later, I still have insomnia, and have tingling in my fingers and strange hypersensitive skin. Pregabalin is horrid, tryna get off of it is an absolute hell mission, a year ago I dropped my first 25mg, absolute hell, the 3 1/2 week migraine was terrible, dropped a second 25mg, and had to stop, I'm stuck on it, was meant for my neuropathic pain due to a treatment injury. The list of side effects I have experienced is almost all of what's listed, it does not reduce burning pain, spasms and infact after a couple months of slight pain relief, and motor function returning slowly, it did nothing. When I also went from 300mg to 400mg a day I began experiencing dysphagia-struggling to swallow, which is absolutely terrifying. This drug keeps me awake more than anything I've ever been on. I'm exhausted, tired, dopey during the day... I could go on... But you get the drift. NZ doesn't offer any lower dosage than 25mg and no one will help. All of Amanda's withdrawals is what I get if I don't take it on time or think I've taken it and realise when that happens that I haven't, -memory issues.

I take 50mg onced or twice a week and i have never had a problem i take it at night i do feel slightly tired the next day for a few hours.
1 lady said she is on 400mg a day i do understand everyone is different the same dose won't work on everyone,
But let's face it the higher the dose of any medication 💊 on the market the more chance you will have side effects,
And became dependent or even addicted.
I also heard 1 of the ladies says how she feels if she runs out why is she running out of medication 💊 ?
The practice must give her enough to last her until her next prescription ?
I personally think some people are taking to much im not saying they are doing that to get high maybe because their in so much pain,
Last but not least its important to try to manage your pain other ways such as exercising etc, not totally depending on medication.

I live in an area ravaged with addiction. I was addicted to pre gablin for years but managed to get off of it (the withdrawls are horrific) however in the area I live even the herion addicts are taking pre gablin over harder class a drugs. Deaths are frequent. Nearly every week someone I know is dying from mixing pre gablin with other drugs. They are evil.

Terrible drug! I had dozens of side effects. I felt pressured to stay on it and keep upping the dose by my GP. Its worse than opioids! Glad I've cut down off it but it wasn't easy and took several months.
I'm stuck on 12½mg - like her the last tiny bit is so difficult to come off.
My GP surgery just throws them at you. My pain is 10× worse now.. no one warns you this and Gabapentin can do that permanently.

Fucking garbage ! Idiot! Lyrica is the brand name. Pregabalin is the name of the actual drug. Gabapentin is an altogether different drug.
      P.S. you’re a moron.

My adult daughter was prescribed Lyrica (pregabalin) 3 years ago and increased the dose when her body required more of the drug to manage her pain. She ended up having a psychotic episode and was taken off it. She looks back at that time in horror; it was a an addictive, mind bending drug that caused depression, irrational thoughts and behaviour, and in the end hallucinations. Why it is so freely prescribed in Australia is astounding when people are reporting these outcomes to medical professionals.
