I think you can transform the bike for hard Enduro, apex cilinder head xc dome, steahly off road flyweight 13OZ, hitlis power valve, and other things, but truly the way to go it's next year, Fantic 300 it's a yz but for hard Enduro.
I did hard enduro on YZ x for 3 years. The main problem you can't over come is the shitty 5 spd transmission. First isn't low enough and 5th isn't high enough. You can put a 300 kit in it, an electric starter, bla bla bla, but you still can't get around that transmission! And that goes for the new Fantic too! My hard enduro riding has gotten so much better since I got on a KTM. Yes I miss the YZ suspension, but everything else I don't miss. I also found the clutch side engine case super easy to damage with rocks. It seems to stick out more than a KTM. I even punched a hole through the Rekluse cover and they are really strong.
All good points. Like I said in the video, it’s not my forever bike. Got it for a good price and I’m gonna abuse it till I think my skills have improved enough to buy a KTM or one of her sister brands!
I’ve owned a 93,95,99,00,01,05,06 and 08 yz 250’s that I’ve set up very close to a 250x for desert riding and racing, my currant bike is a clean 96 wr 250z 2 stroke that I found and installed a brand new in package GYT longrod kit for a 94 yz250 that was the go too mod for smoother power, it s 5mm I think longer than the stock ones.
You should get the hitlis power valve kit, there a small company. It smooths the bike so much. I race hare scrambles in A class and it’s a insane difference.
You could put a Rekluse on it and then never care that it's kick start only. I got a refurbished one directly from them for $500; I may have gotten lucky though.
That’s what I did, really helps cut down or eliminate multiple kick starts per ride or race. Last weekend race I kicked it once at the start, raced 2 hours, crashed twice and it never died
I’ve always thought that clutch fade was a symptom of friction and drive plate heat rather than actuation method. No doubt hydraulic actuators are much easier to maintain actuation force regardless of environmental factors but it doesn’t help with fade (just ask my hydraulic driven clutch on my HD 😏) Does the yz250x still have the 1 touch cable adjuster the old bikes had?
Not sure what the one touch adjuster is but mine can be adjusted by just a knob super easy. And yea I’m not a engine mechanic or engineer but I thought clutch fade was from the heat and the cable clutch dosnt dissipate heat and adjust for clutch fade
As the owner and lover of YZ250x’s I’m finally done. Going on the market next week. Sick of jetting, sick of kicking and sick of Yamaha dragging their ass. 💔
Totally get it! The lectron carb helps the jetting issue, but yea the kickstart blows. I’m 23 so I make it my bitch, but yea eventually I will get a euro enduro weapon
Bottom line is Yamaha and Honda need to step it up if they are going to do hard enduro! I’ve owned Honda most my life, when I started enduro had to get KTM
I don’t think they care. But they should. The market for hard enduro is growing and growing fast. A YZ300x with electric start, hydro clutch, 6 REAL enduro gears, and a stator is what they need to make. It would sell like hot cakes. I mean even if they kept the 250 engine but updated it and kept it under $11k. It would demolish the euro bikes
@@Unqualified2ride google lol 😂 no that’s why I’m asking u ? I own currently a 2018 yz250F and it’s dumb fast for a 250 . Its been 10 years since I’ve been on my old 90s yz250 two stroke
I’ve read some things that bringing down the coolant temp has improved on the clutch fade. It’s all anecdotal evidence but still worth looking into 🤷🏼♂️
For real competition it just doesn't have enough engine for a good woods bike and the engine is is still to high strung with not enough bottom end grunt wears a rider out the 300 2strokes are better but still can't compete with the likes of a wr450 in a gnarly woods race plus no electric start hate to say this but it's true it's going to take a big bore 2t to compete with the 450fs in racing
That’s why I own 3 YZ250s. The greatest bikes ever!!
They are pretty solid! But this new Fantic XE300 might just be the unicorn!

I know! I keep seeing it! And I want one. Maybe in a year or two when they are here in the states I’ll grab one. Early adopter!!
@@Unqualified2ride i think Fantic in US gone sell very well, and the yz250 gone drop in sells
@@Unqualified2rideSherco or Beta 👍
I love the kick-start and carb. Makes the bike super simple, reliable, and easy to work on. Will keep forever.
Defiantly not all bad things
People who complain about kick starts shouldn’t Be riding bikes

Ok I’ll look into it! I wanna see how this XC dome does first in the rough!
Great video Nick. It sucks that Yamaha will not put the magic button on these or I’d already have one. I’m not kicking a bike anymore. 😅
Haha fair enough. Issue is once they give it a Tbi system, electric start and other euro goodies the price is gonna be close to the euro stuff
It's a sissy button
You could put a Rekluse on it and then never care that it's kick start only. I got a refurbished one directly from them for $500; I may have gotten lucky though.
Nice video, sir. To kind of alleviate the no E-start, installing a Rekluse auto clutch would make life a lot easier.
Yes it would. But there $$$. Negating the point of getting a YZ. In my opinion

The hydrualic clutch doesn't effect the fade at all, it just compenates for it automatically vs the cable which does not.
what you said in the video is true..i was start enduro riding using kx250 and yea it's frustrating..now using ktm xcw 2 stroke..
Just wait and see what I’m getting lol

Raced a YZ for years..add a cupl teeth. Oversize tank. Recluse clutch.....instant woods weapon
The yz has always been awesome...the x version....even better
It’s a pretty fun bike once u set it up for your style and technique of riding
You with a recluse auto clutch...is the killer setup
OMG..its that kick stand for real? Could it stick out any more?
Another thing is that yamaha makes a reliable machine, if you took care of it and didn't race it would never quit
Yes it’s practically unchanged and bullet proof
@@Unqualified2ride I have read somewhere that yamaha is ready to do race testing for a 300 cc machine, hopefully its more geared twards hard enduro.
No fuel injection, a big plus, great suspension

clutch fade? not on mine in 200 hrs I've heated the front brake and it got spongey two times but was fine after another mile or ten minutes
Yea when I’ve been in really gnarly terrain and the clutch gets hot and fades. Not just mine too other guys on YZs I ride with

Kick start, carb, and cable clutch...all deal breakers for me. Once you have a new KTM you aren't going back to the tech you had as a kid.
I do have a KTM, issue is they are $$$ I got this for a good price and for now it’s doing the job. I’m having fun and learning a lot
Fantic XE 300 TBI Is the right way
Maybe when we actually get them here

it’s definitely not IMO….without the push start your definitely fucked….
I can’t say I agree. Push start is great. But you can and I DO kickstart the bike in tricky spots. It still handles hard enduro just fine

E-start all day. Yamaha makes a good bike. Ain’t no KTM or Beta for off road.
Nope but I promise I will appreciate e-start and other fancy bits more when I get my next bike haha
E start if the battery does not short out .Any e start bike needs kick back up..Fuel injection good till it gets wet or damaged then pay .
