14:20 I bought a 2018 250X new just after the launch in SA in 2017, wanted to fit a fan, our Yamaha dealer quoted me about R8k excl labour (about $400-$500) for the stator, battery, aftermarket electric starter and aftermarket fan and also an additional option for the WR headlight. It would make my bike almost 10kg heavier and with our harescramble and cross country races containing a bit of mx and endurocross type of stuff I kept it standard to keep the weight down, when we had tight and slow terrain I made sure to mix my 2 stroke 1:20 and 96% concentrate coolant, but when exiting the heavy stuff I had to rev the motor up to burn the 2stroke off the plug as I lost power on the straights when exiting the heavy terrain, but with the correct jetting and few fine tunes to the motor my bike kept up with the 450’s and 500’s with 6 speed gearboxes.

Hello from Haiti! I liked your vid. I'm on the fence about getting this bike vs a husky or ktm 300 because of the tpi, which I'm scared of. What's your opinion? Also, whats the new flywheel weight?
Hey! I don't have any time on a 300 tpi but I hear they are great. For me, I love my Yamaha and feel like I've never been at a disadvantage. To be fair, the 250 has a different power character than the 300... the work I have done to my bike helps make it more like a 300, but there's no replacement for displacement! Haha
@@dimitrivolel6475 why don’t you trust the tpi system?? I personally think the tpi system is really attractive because of it precision and efficiency. The only thing I don’t like about the ktm is how expensive everything is for those bikes. @Matthew Lidel so far I'm happy with it. Big improvement over the og lectron (in my opinion). Still working out exactly how I want it setup, but enjoying it so far
I’m not being a jerk so please don’t take offense , go to the mako 360 instead of the flexx bars . They will break on you , if you look under the bar you can see where they drill and pin the bar in . In a crash or tip over it will break right there where pin is . I’ve had it happen a few times and so have a few of my friends. The mako 360 won’t ever break can go from bike to bike and works better. Again not being a jerk just trying to help , I broke mine riding hard enduro and getting out of the mountains with one hand is a bummer for entire group .
I have had these same bars for about 400 engine hours... plenty of tip-overs and crashes. Shit happens and every system can break, but I haven't run into any issues with my bars.

@@sparkyboots I don't have any experience with anything heavier than an 8oz... my guess would be yes? But I'm not totally confident in that statement. The biggest thing I noticed about it was that it prevented stalling the bike.
What kind of premix do you use? And at what ratio?
I use Amsoil Dominator mixed at 40:1 :D
@@JasonHamborg thanks for the response👍
@@cliner7176 Yeah of course! Happy to answer any questions you have!
Thinking about a magura hydro clutch?🙌🏼🙌🏼
I haven't no, I like the feel of my clutch
I've had the Magura for about 3 years and it's awesome. I ride mostly hard enduro and it was worth the money. It comes with different spacers to get the throw right, once you do that it's good to go.
Haha
@@JasonHamborg I just don't trust the tpi at all. Anyways we'll see! If I do get the big blue, I'll let u know. Keep up the good work!
I highly recommend blue man. It’s a lot less headache and easier to make into what you want.
@@dimitrivolel6475 why don’t you trust the tpi system?? I personally think the tpi system is really attractive because of it precision and efficiency. The only thing I don’t like about the ktm is how expensive everything is for those bikes. Yz’s have a crazy amount of parts out there are are actually reasonable which I think is a huge plus of the yz
I was also the fence but went with yz 250x and I am in love
Where that gastank from and what company?
Tank was made by IMS
Good info thanks my son looking at one of these
Cheers!
I can not find a used 2016++ yz250 or x I'm in Northern California anyone have any recommendations they would be greatly appreciated 😄
Does yours drip some oil out of power valve vent line.?
It does. From what I understand, nothing really to be worried about
How does the bike perform with the power valve mod? Is it more bottom end/torque? Or is it just more snappy?
There is a slight hesitation on the x, going from low to mid range... it just removes the hesitation, if you don;t notice it, don't worry about doing the PVM. That's my opinion at least...
Cool thanks man, I don't really notice any hesitation, but I'm on a regular yz not the X so I'll probably just leave it alone
@@joshkrause1051 Yeah definitely don't worry then, this is an X issue... the PVM removes a washer making the PV act more like a regular YZ.
Did you have to mod the foot pegs at all? Everything I’ve seen so far shows you have to modify stuff to make this work
What do you mean, mod the pegs? I use fastway pegs in a lower position. Mod stuff to make what work?
@@JasonHamborg fastway told me (as well as other you tubers and forum members) that the fast way pegs don’t work in the lower position on our bikes. Apparently you have to mod the bolts or something. Or you lose the kickstand or have to get a different kickstand. You got any pics?
Here’s what I mean:
th-cam.com/video/eTzAz0tPrUs/w-d-xo.html
@@Dropsix Weird! I didn't run into this issue... The pegs that I installed are older... and I bought them specifically for the lower feature (back in 2016/17)... Maybe they are different?
@@JasonHamborg yeah super weird. I guess you’re one of the lucky ones haha.
Where did you get the ez pull clutch?
It's made by Zeta (CP Perch). Check with your local dealer or you should be able to find it online.
What exactly have you modified to the exhaust valve?
You can remove a washer in the assembly so the power valve opens sooner. th-cam.com/video/Le3chZSKXng/w-d-xo.html
Those hand guards really protect your hands enough??
Yeah I've taken some decent hits to trees... and I think if you're going to hit a tree any harder, you have bigger problems 😅
@@JasonHamborg Where I live we ride in a lot of shale and granite rock.
One good crash will destroy a pair of non-wrap around guards in a second, LOL...
We need a bike like this in Europe, why isn't it sold?
🤷
I wouldn't lend sell or trade my 250x I love it for all the riding I do. Lectron keeps it crisp. I looking at getting flex bars.
Did you drill your frame to mount the sxs slide plate?
Yeah, it comes with the drill bit and tap to do it... seemed sketchy when I first got it, I have about 130 hours on the plate without issue though...
Thoughts on adding the E start?? Think it’s worth it
Yeah it could definitely be nice... sounds like I have a chance to work with a company that is in the development of something... that's probably all I can say for now though :D
@@JasonHamborg so you saying that if you were me to just hold tight for now instead of running out to get the Panthera one??? Not sure if I’m reading to much into your reply but hopefully you are working on something that would be awesome, love your riding style thanks again for your feedback
What brand is your fuel tank?
Greetings from Brazil.
Its made by IMS 🤙
@@JasonHamborg Great!
This is a IMS DAVIS TY version?
No problem with installation?
No leaks?
Forums says aftermarket tanks are a swimming pool of problems...
Its just the regular version. I have had this tank for about 3.5 year. No issues!
@@JasonHamborg ok!
Thanks for your attention.
@@marcelvaleixo3650 of course! Thanks for the question. Let me know what you end up getting!
Does your bike foul plugs when you are lugging it low
I actually have only ever fouled one plug (on my 2017 YZ250)... I hear of people who struggle with the issue, but I never have. One thing I always try to do is minimize idling for long periods of time, and if we ride a section that is super slow I will rev the bike out from time to time (in neutral) to try to avoid it getting plugged up.
Are you in Pacific Northwest?
I'm in Northern BC, near the geographic centre of the province in Prince George.
Hello friend, maybe your motorcycle has overheated or maybe you need to put electric fans thanks
what hour meter do you use?
The yamaha gytr one :)
panthera e start?
What flywheel weight did you go with
I have a GYTR 8oz :)

¿Please tel me?
Good question, can i turn my 2015 Yamaha 250cc 2 strokes, into e dual purpose, for long trips on & off road ?( please advice me where to buy all the parts to travel long distances)?
Thnx 💥💥
You live in Australia?
Canada
@@JasonHamborg I didn’t know canada said the letter z as “z’ed”
What prockets used for long travel on yz 250x?
I assume you mean sprokets? I use a 13-51, but that's not a great combo for long distances haha, the bike isn't very good at top speed with that gearing.
What jetting you running.?
Hey Matthew, so recently I've switched to the Lectron Billetron PRO. But my setting on the kehin was N3EW Needle will clip @ top of needle.
172 main and 40 pilot
@@JasonHamborg how do you like the pro I’m looking at that one now as well.?
Put in the WR426 gearbox in and then you can run stock gearing.
Are you satisfied with the lack of wide tractable torque and the transmission gear ratios?
I went to a 13-51 gearing. Stovk is 14-50 and that is probably the ultimate improvement on the bike. Plus it's cheap!
@@JasonHamborg I have often run high compression heads but I have been reading where some extreme riders that enter the Erzberg event are running lower compression heads. I find that interesting.
🔥🔥🔥
For this kind of riding you need the KTM XC-W can’t be beat for gnarly stuff
It’s a nice bike I live in Australia nsw
Thank you! I'd love to get over to Aus some day!
My 2023 yz250x literally drinks gas it’s so bad on gas lol but I can’t bring myself to put an ugly aftermarket tank on it
Hahah, I wish someone would just make a nice oversize tank that is like 10L, enough to make a difference but not these 20L bathtubs that we currently have as an option. I rad a lectron for awhile and that is definitely one thing that I loved about it though was it make the fuel economy MUCH better.
@@JasonHamborg I almost bought the lectron because I hear how good it is and how fuel efficient it is but I called smartcarb while researching and they told me since I have a tps sensor I need to have it connected so it doesn’t mess up my mapping so I’m saving up to buy it I’m not sure if I do actually need that sensor but my bike is brand new so I rather not chance it ya know
@@robertbaker9329 interesting... You should message Be Rad about this... he might know?
