    John Barilaro ends defamation claim
John Barilaro, the former NSW Deputy Premier has discontinued his defamation claim against Jordan Shanks aka Friendlyjordies. Xenophon Davis partner Mark Davis said: “Our client will not be paying a cent in damages to Mr Barilaro. Not one video will be taken down.”
On 5 November 2021, the Federal Court made orders to the effect that save for the costs ordered on 13 August 2021 (the parliamentary privilege issue) and 31 August 2021 (the jury issue), the proceeding as against the First Respondent be discontinued with no order as to costs.
Davis said “Mr Shanks was denied the defence of truth because of the parliamentary privilege enjoyed by Mr Barilaro. Under the circumstances, we are more than satisfied that the action has been withdrawn.”
The Court heard a statement made on behalf of Mr Shanks by Dr Matt Collins QC in which he said “Freedom of expression for political communication is important” but added that Mr Shanks accepted that some of the videos he posted were offensive to Mr Barilaro and apologised to him for that hurt.
Mr Shanks will cease selling merchandise featuring Mr Barilaro upon his retirement from politics.
Friendlyjordies Producer Kristo Langker continues to face criminal prosecution with the trial anticipated to commence in May 2022.
Davis said: “We have been inspired by the tremendous support for Jordan which has enabled him to survive this civil suit. But this fight is not over. Kristo is still facing the police and the Courts. These two cases go to the heart of the citizen’s right to criticise, scrutinise and satirise our political leaders.”

Mick Fuller, Commissioner of the NSW Police Force is payed $665,750 a year. That's more than our Prime Minister and more than the President of the United States.
Fuller received a pay rise this year. All other public sector employees- teachers, nurses, paramedics- had their wages frozen.
(Sonia Hickey's piece published by Sydney Criminal Lawyers)

As a Hong Konger international student who resided in Sydney a few years ago. I recall watching in person, a NSW police officer choke slamming a teenager to the ground, simply because he was verbally questioning the authority of the officer but in a non-violent way, and this was a sad sight for me to witness, considering when I attended processions/assemblies in Sydney 2019 that supported my homeland's fight for democracy and freedom, NSW police officers on scene were supportive as well. I have never heard of friendlyjordies prior to this whole incident, but it was indeed shocking and quite disappointing to hear of this scandal, certainly not what I would expect happening in a liberal democracy. I remember learning in uni that Australia technically does not have a 'protection of free speech', or it is not constitutionally protected; Although I'm not an Aussie (but I sometimes have the accent when conversing haha) I have such a soft spot for Australia and hope that this free speech area is ratified. It would be such a sad sight for me to watch Australia (especially NSW) fall into a corrupt police state situation as seen in Hong Kong.
p.s. I may not necessarily agree with all of Jordie's views in other videos, but mate they are nice to binge on.
