  • In this video I use my new Evolve pole spear to hunt lingcod in the Bay Area CA while freediving. I teach you tricks to rig up your pole spear, where to find lingcod and how to hunt them and discuss the advantages of this type of pole spear for bigger fish. I also find dozens of fishing weights and we find a clam, crab and crazy alien-like parasites on the lingcod. The fish also had BLUE MEAT and and octopus in its stomach! Finally I show you how to clean this fish and cook it with plantains and an incredible mango salsa outdoors on a camp stove.

    Not sure of the dive location but it was good to see that amount of kelp and the abalone. Also enjoyed seeing a number of sea stars and fewer urchins. Fingers crossed for and ab season in 2026..

      It is a nice healthy reef! Unfortunately Sonoma all the way to the Oregon boarder is a different story. Those sea urchins are out of control up there. Thanks for watching!

    I been bit by one of those parasites when I was in grade school, took a small chunk off my finger when I was cooling my hands in the shallows. They for sure will hurt you. Love the channel, keep it up!

      @bottom 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looking at it again, I think I got the wrong critter. The ones that bit me are common along the rocky shorelines of San Francisco and San Pablo Bay. They make quick work of dead fish that wash up onto shore. When we bleed fish and leave in the water, a bunch of the ones that bit me will start to feed on the fish.

    In the 1980's I had a friend who's family was from the Azores. His parents had a commercial license and fished out of HalfMoon bay in a 22 ft . boat. When they got back to San Jose they would give me 1 Albacore and 1 Ling cod. 20 to 30 lbs. each. Really nice fish. I dont enjoy fish so I would process them and gift to familey and friends. I was the most popular guy around . Lololololo

      Thanks! Just remember that beginner level spearfishing is what I mostly guide which means we will work the shallows and you dive as deep or as shallow and as long or as short as you feel comfortable. I can confidently say that, as you get acclimated, we will likely double your current breath hold though.

    When you do the dive light review could you show where/how you like to attach it to yourself? I just bought a new Orca torch and lost it on the first dive last weekend because I only used the cinch tab around my wrist - the long leash makes it a bit awkward to find a good spot. I didn't notice it was gone until I got back in the boat. Expensive lesson for me to learn (~$100) : /

    • @catchncookcalifornia1574
      @catchncookcalifornia1574  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My brother, plantains are wonderful…. We call sweet plantain “maduros” and fried smashed plantain “tostones”
    Our African brothers and sisters make very good plantain out there,
    I’m from Ecuador, try tostones my friend
    Cut the plantains into 3/4 inch pieces horizontally and fry them till getting brown
    Take them out and smash them down smoothly and re fry them…
    Salt to your liking…
    With ceviche and fish my friend it’s my favorite ever
    Come summertime I’m eating ceviche and plantain a lot !
