Nice video Dr. K. Love when you go out with friends for a fun adventure fishing and cooking up the catch. You both are lots of fun and make a great team and on this channel one cant help but to learn something. Thanks for including us, looking forward to more. 💕🎣🍄🌿✌
Thanks!
Great times with an old friend.
What you did with the string was a whip finish. It is used for ropes and rod guilds.
Thanks Doug!
As a geologist I truly appreciated your introductory comments about the local geology. So often in videos where the geology is stunning rarely is the regional geology commented on...but rocks ( once you get familiar with them ) have their own story to tell. My thesis involved mapping 75 square miles on foot in the high Sierra ( 8 months living out of a tent and surviving on what nature could provide.). It was so beautiful...and memorable..and so challenging. Love your channel!!
Thanks Donald! That sounds awesome and I totally agree! Monterey formation as I am sure you could see.
The Monterey indeed! I usually can identify video locations based on geology. Your knowledge of the natural world continues to amaze me.
Amazing! Great video Doc! Thank you!!
Your favorite professors favorite professor back in action. Damn Kevin, wish I wasn't a whole continent away. Id be hanging with you. Oh well, Atlanta is just going to have to do.
It's a rock fish day!!!... Errrrr.. eel day for sure.
Wow that’s freaking impressive starting that fire !!
Thanks for sharing Dr. K. Great Video, and collab !! Fun fishing, Memories made , and there are 20K + who enjoy hanging out with you 😍 🎣 🌟 👍
seeing that hitch made me wonder about ancient knot techniques... and which ones are most commonly used today.
I hear you! Maybe I should incorporate that into a video on cordage making and use in catching and cooking? Good idea!
I suspect he took it down due to audio issues. This versions audio is much cleaner. Thanks for the great content Dr!!! always a thumbs up
12:00 Best part of the video.. 😁
Grats man on the 20K! And great quote at the start. Love that so much. Lol 12:00😆
You got 20 000 people that would wanna chill and fish with ya. That's pretty crazy! Love the stuff
Wow 😲
awesome vid
So informative, chill and an overall amazing vibes from your videos. Yew!
You know it’s a great meal when you say “oh ya, .... the beer”

Grats doc! Here's to more catches, learning along with your videos, and delicious meals 🍻
Congrats to your new title..Dr.
I'm so glad I found your channel. Glad you are back making videos because they are really cool. Love what you do and your recipes look delicious!
Awesome video Dr 👍🤙😎
fun!
great video! this was awesome
I’m new to channel but need to say that Your voice is liquid gold! Keep up
The good work!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻
Congrats, keep making videos as long as you got the time!!!
Yes.......I'm hungry!!!! Hahahaha!! Me too! Its dinner time and thatblooks de lish! Congrats guys!
There is something magical about starting a friction fire. I've done several and it still feels like I'm conjuring the fire from within the wood. I can relate to Alex's feeling after he gets the fire going.
He was totally joking... but yes I 100% agree there is a whole lot of science and magic in that act!
What??? I thought last time was your personal best??! Cant wait to watch this then!!!
I think you are one of the best . Wow awesome eel fishing . I subscribe and put the bell on because your awesome I like what your doing of fishing. Man! ... you should do a bushcraft in the woods and catch and cook for a 7 day with a other bushcraft guy ... trout fishing...
I love you man as long as you make videos I will be watching.
I was watching your vid of the 24 hour challenge a canou and camp ... I see next day you cought a fish ... you didn't have no seasoning but you could of season the fish with wild raspberries... good vids awesome
Whip finish. I use it when ever I need to do just about any thing. Right now my glasses retainer strap is whip finished on the leg of my glasses with some braid fishing line. Mine is not reusable I usually put a drop of super glue on it to just loack it down.
Right on!
Congrats on 20k! Awesome that you both could pull out lunker eels. Alex is awesome. We hope he becomes a regular on the channel.
Woot Eel, I gotta really get back out there and get one. Thanks Kev!
You are due!
When my friend first asled me to go poke for Monkey Faced Eels I swore he was bullshitting me. I figured it was like Snipe hunting. I even just fished until I saw him catch one..then I was hooked. We caught about 9 that day. This was back around 1986.
Congrats on 20k! Restaurant on the rocks. Looks delicious 👍🎣
nice!
Good to see you uploading quite frequently Doc. Keep it up.
A new subsriber here, had a good time watching your back catalog of videos
Whew, glad it's back. Went down when I was only half way through 😅! Congrats again!
Love the quotes 👌
Good video I don't know the name of the hitch is but I use the same knot to tie on rod guides.
Right on!
I missed your vid bro ohhh i mean doctor kev.. as always love ur vid
That beard is a thing of beauty.
Indeed!
Chefs are very constructive and honest with their food. Kinda humbling and awkward to see, but very entertaining to watch! Always cool to see them eat something they whipped up for the first time using fresh ingredients in a cool setting.
I love your videos I recently subscribed and I’ve watched all of them and you all get along so well and I have no doubt that your viewers are learning a lot especially about safety I’m so glad you put great emphasis on it! I know I have learned a lot, and I love all of the survival things that you all make I would love to to be able to make those things myself! I would also love to have the reference books that you use when you go foraging. Great job Dr. and family and friends!
Thanks Christine! I will make sure to add in some short book reviews in a coming video to help steer folks to sources that I trust for proper and safe foraging. Cheers!
Just FYI this was primarly used for WHIP FINISHING a twisted rope end.
Thanks!
Second times the cham! Excellent content, and cheers from someone who grew up forging in California as well! Congratulations on reaching 20 thousand subscribers!
sweet video man food looked great 👍
I know this place. You can catch perch. And rock fish where you are cooking.
Yup. There were some anglers trying while we were cooking. Thanks for not mentioning the name of the location. And thanks for watching!
I used to use that hitch to wrap bamboo flutes to keep them from splitting. Sorry, I don’t know the name either.
You guys are a lot fun / funnier, than when you weren't doing videos for some time.
Hey Doc I’m sure you’re busy now but are you going to be able to do more videos? I really miss watching you all!
Christine, sorry, I have been working 10-12 hr days doing archaeology recently. I am currently making the last edits to the next video. I hope I will be able to post the next video in the next couple of days! Thanks for checking in!
Have you ever tried smoking those eels? I wonder if it would be as good as smoked fresh water eel.
We have, it was one of our first videos and they were awesome!
Q: do you have any words?
A: yes
13:15 that's the most expensive cutting board I've ever seen
congrats on your PhD!! yeah!! would love to read your dissertation!! 20K on up!!
Doctor, where are those overturned beds? one prof of mine called it continental sumo wrestling!!
You can see them from a little north of Santa Cruz all the way to San Diego. They are part of the Monterey geologic Formation (though we were nowhere near Monterey Bay in this vid). Thanks for watching!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 thanks for the info! geologic lateral displacement is truly interesting in and of itself! according to some, Yellowstone could've been right there where you were poke-poling; delicately steamed monkey-faced eel wrapped in boiled kelp leaves!!
Long videos but they’re very great. Try to do clips of them so it’s easier for people with short focus
Glad you enjoy them. It is really hard to cut two days of fishing and cooking into less than 1/2 an hr. Thanks for the input though.
Hey great video!!! Maybe you should have made it into a sandwich since it wasn't easy to cut? Keep up the great video's
Taku brought me here
Poke poking looks awesome plus fun is it that time of year for uni yet it no
Humm interesting thought, the purple urchins are considered evasive and eat kelp eels and starfish eat kelp so we need to find ways to consume purple urchins to ensure the habitats for fat healthy eels.
It's called the K Stitch
Half hitch knot. Excellent video Kevin! 2 words LUMP CHARCOAL not chemical laced briquettes. Thank me later.
That's how we usually grill... but we were limited on selection this time.
this is like when you do a bow serving on your string
you do the same thing
Hey Dr. Kev, I've noticed the folding knife you carry is that a Buck 110?
Buck Ranger, the 110 was a bit big in my hand which is funny because my hands are huge! It's a bit on the heavy side so not a backpacking blade, but great for bopping big fish and such!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 nice I had a 110 back in high-school it was good for breaking opening walnuts and coconuts 🤣🤣🤣
What part of the Coast are you on?
Bay area... though this was south quite a ways.
Eyes closed I swear I was listening to Tim Heidecker
Was this moss landing?
Nope, but we will never tell. Thanks for watching!
Is martin gona be in any of your latest vids ? Love when he's featured
I will tell him! He's been really slammed with work lately... but yes, we will get him back out!
20,000 😳
👍🤠
just subbed c:
Why they took it down ..did you abused the Eel 😁😁😁😂😂😂😂😂😂
I took it down because I noticed some really annoying glitches in the first version lol.
Where this spot at
It is our policy not to divulge exact locations to help keep fishing pressure low and therefore promote sustainability of spots. A quick search of Marine Protected Areas and State Marine Conservation Areas of the Central Coast will help you weed out locations where fishing and foraging may be closed. There are only a handfull of jetties that it could be once you hone in a bit. If you find it, please keep it quiet. Happy fortaging!
I’m a little late but I’ll always watch
Why was this taken down? Lol 😂 yesterday I was all upset because I thought I had issues with TH-cam
I had some audio glitches and I just couldn't stand keeping the first version up.
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 ahh, I see LOL. Well gladly you were able to re-upload the video! I loved it by the way congrats keep up the amazing work and I’m sure the subscribers will only continue to grow.
Iv seen fish with no heads and no guts flop around.
You'll get more views if you retitle the video "two studs pull thier fat eels out of the same hole" 😉 joking aside, great video dude. Thanks!
Lol. It might not be the viewership I am looking for though.
Hey DKev when I cook those things right before I take a bite I love to slather it with Mayo…….
Lol the thumbs down is from me.
Where's Moe??
They are actually fish , not a member of the eel family.
Correct. A great example of phenotypic convergence. Evolution by natural selection! Thanks for watching!
Be careful reuploading the same videos, the youtube algorithm really hates it
Really like when you talk about historical methods and try them along with modern. Remind me of when history/discovery channel was good
