the easiest way to test a compressor is use a starting kit. it is only about $13 on amazon. before using it, make sure the compressor windings are not shorted. the starting kit consists of the capacitor, relay, and overload protector. if the compressor would not start when using this starting kit, it means the compressor has locked up and needs to be replaced.
The Compressor and capacitor are hot...the problem is the compressor. If compressor is room temp and the rest of the fridge is operating....check the compressor relay at the compressor and Broad....either will be chared. Check the compressor windings before you buy a replacement board. Well, you did save yourself a service call.
Have the same issue, have replaced the relay and the overload, doing the big capacitor next. Resistances on compressor checked out ok. How did you confirm that compressor had failed? Labor cost of getting it fixed? Thks
I have a Whirlpool fridge and the relay tested bad, and when I went to local repair shop the guy said oh it would be the compressor Whirlpool units are crap, and it would not be the relay. I actually went to this salvage from the tip type place and got one from an old fridge to test and it started and run fine. I had a QP2-15 the one from the yard was a QP2-20, I will get the proper one now that it runs fine.

That capacitor stores energy to start the compressor when the relay calls for power. goodn luck finding that relay.
At the time of your Samsung's problem, how old was the Frig? When and where was it manufactured?

Maybe the compressor overheated when that fan was not working?
junkyardw I'm sure it ran hot that whole time, but I fixed the condenser fan over a year before the compressor quit, so who knows...
