- A testy exchange took place between Workers’ Party (WP) chief Pritam Singh and Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, at a hearing into a lie told by former WP Member of Parliament (MP) Raeesah Khan.
During the exchange last Friday, Mr Singh told Parliament’s privileges committee that Ms Raeesah had told him and a WP disciplinary panel late last month that she suffers from dissociation, where she talks without thinking.

Why is edwin tong asking for pritam opinion but disregard his suggestions? How come Edwin is taking side? He must be impartial.

The moment you a political in the cabinet, and the moment your salary is controlled by that said party. You are no longer impartial to any interest free decision making relating to the matter.
Raseeah didn't need a reason to lie. She lied about the police when there was no need to do so. So stop pressing Pritam Singh for a reason why a liar should lie. Raseeah could have lied to "improve" her narrative.

This is exactly why we need to find out the reason why she is lying, if we can prove that she is lying to improve her narrative, shift the blame or to drag others down, then it will clear Pritam's name. This is why we even have investigation process in the first place, to cross examine, to fact find. This is a good chance for Pritam to share his side of the story.

As a member of the Committee one should be impartial throughout the investigation, stay objective and make substantiated inference. Trying to corner Mr Pritam SIngh without objective evidence makes the COP looks real bad. it is undeniable Ms Khan made a series of mistakes lying again and again. It already look bad on the leadership of WP, however trying to sling mud at the CEC of WP is pretty low. And moreover Mr Edwin Tong tonality and choice of words suggests biasness against Mr Pritam.

The committee and its members have a role to play and that is to investigate. Investigators have to dig and poke to find out the truth as most people will not volunteer to tell the truth at first run. You can see in a few instances only after much pushing then some additional truth comes out. If the COP play nice, some Singaporeans too will say they failed in their jobs. This is an investigation not nice nice chit chat. Cannot please everyone. Everyone has his or her own perception and opinion.

I am a PAP supporter but I am very sad that they chose to try to bring down the Worker Party through Raeesah' s lie. Every educated individual would know that Edwin Tong's line of questioning is overbearing and attempting to force Pritam to admit to wrongdoings through silly assumptions. It went on for so long and it is very painful to watch. PAP should stop doing such things as I am sure it is putting off a lot of educated voters. You just need to establish the facts and come out with a report on how the Worker Party Central Committee could have handle it better. That's all. Now this circus show is circulating on social media and it reflects very badly on PAP trying to pin blame on Pritam while there is no significant evidence. My sympathy lies with Pritam Singh.

You really think PAP wanted to bring down WP? Do you know why Sengkang east always vote against PAP? The food stall rental is at least $8000 versus $600 to $1200 in AMK and Bedok etc.. There is coffee shop here but less than 5 table outdoor while the rest are benches. It is totally different in Sengkang west under PM LHL. Sengkang east GRC is meant to be given to opposition forever so that the high food prices and lack of proper amenities will depress the resale price to warn the rest not to follow Sengkang footstep. The snub from democracy summit is a startling reminder that Even with almost 10 opposition members Singapore is still not recognised as democracy by western standard. If you are referring to Faizal Manap, then I will agree with you. The interview was awful and was a simple question but he don't want or insist to reply. Maybe he just want to give a hard time for PAP. From this whole saga, you can see the PAP clearly waste a lot of time in doing this. The person lied and resigned and jwe have to move on from there. This investigation is targetted to know more about WP internal discussion and thought process. i think it is really rude for edwin tong to reject the suggestion of psychiatric assessment of raeesah immediately, without giving much consideration.
and how could he ask such a question, where he seeks an answer on the mindset of raeesah during those times, to pritam? how would he have known? even if pritam gave an answer to edwin, it would be deemed inaccurate as raeesah herself didn’t mention it. but i’d assume edwin will accept the answer anyway as it would have fit nicely in the narrative formed in his head.
To be fair, Pritam has no authority or right to ask for a psychiatric assessment of Raeesah. Imagine if Raessah ask for a psychiatric assessment of Pritam, that makes no sense right? The role of the committee is to hear the story from both sides and cross examine them not take sides, they have to assume both sides are trying their best to fight for their own benefits and they have to question them hard to find loopholes in their story.
Waste of taxpayer money again on poor entertainment. If there is enough proof to indict PS, the parliament would have done so. These sessions are as I observed, an exchange of 'I say' vs 'what did you say'. RK is a self professed liar and has lost all credibility. Case closed.
What is Edwin Tong's body of work ? First, Edwin Tong represented City Harvest's key persons who got off very lightly over huge sums (millions) misappropriated. Second, Edwin Tong is attempting to rely on Raeesah's rendition even though she had been found to have lied to the police & what makes Edwin Tong think Raeesah wont lie again? Ms Khan had took the ownership and move on by resigning. The intention for the committee thereafter clearly trying to seek the truth whether the opposition party and members are aware and supporting the anecdote. My honest opinion is that WP actually knows that if announce earlier is a lie, their party also will be whacked so they might as well gambled on a chance. A chance no one will pursue. If the previous WP leader still in charge, I have feeling, Khan sure admit the lie immediately and not wait till the last minute. All I can say is a bad gamble.

I am a PAP supporter but I am very sad that they chose to try to bring down the Worker Party through Raeesah' s lie. Every educatedindividual would know that Edwin Tong's line of questioning is overbearing and attempting to force Pritam to admit to wrongdoings through silly assumptions. It went on for so long and it is very painful to watch. PAP should stop doing such things as I am sure it is putting off a lot of educated voters. You just need to establish the facts and come out with a report on how the Worker Party Central Committee could have handle it better. That's all. Now this circus show is circulating on social media and it reflects very badly on PAP trying to pin blame on Pritam while there is no significant evidence. My sympathy lies with Pritam Singh.
Having posted this , would I still vote for PAP next election? The answer is YES! and I tell you the reasons why. Apple has many questionable practices. They admitted that installing iOS updates could slow down older iPhones. " Apple has been fined 25 million euros (£21m, $27m) for deliberately slowing down older iPhone models without making it clear to consumers." Apple "committed the crime of deceptive commercial practice by omission" and had agreed to pay the fine. Apple is still continuing this practice. I am sure you are aware of the many other questionable practices that Apple adopts. But would you boycott Apple because of this? No , millions still flock to purchase iphones for the simple reason " Iphones work well, are user friendly and customers get value for money"
So I would look beyond Edwin Tong. PAP has brought about Singapore's prosperity all these years. Yes they have many questionable practices but what is of utmost importance for us? The continued prosperity of Singapore. Worker Party is an unknown product though I appreciate their presence because "Opposition’s role to ensure PAP doesn’t have ‘blank cheque to do whatever it wants’: WP chief Pritam Singh.

The whole COP enquiry has come to two crucial dates: 4 oct and 1 sept (two occasions where RK spoke in Parliament). Either 4 oct or 1 sep, once RK speak the truth, it will be a crisis situation to WP yet curiously, only on 1 sept RK confession speech did WP made herculean preparation while on 4 oct supposedly RK confession speech, nothing done prior. Pritam justified that since 4 oct may or may not be asked about the LIE, so nothing need to prepare (is Pritam playing dice with his party’s reputation?). When Malaysia threaten Singapore that the Water Tap may be closed, Did Singapore bet that since it is just a threat so no need to do anything? NO. Founder Lee Kuan Yew did all he could to ensure alternative Water Taps are available. This is the kind of Leader political party must have. Period.
